It's a much better decision and one of more apply logic as well as common sense to reattach the larger diameter hose for the purpose of allowing the excess air to be recirculated back into the intake and repurposed or recycled to further enhance or increase the performance and efficiency of the engine. That's wasted air that could otherwise be going back into the engine on top of the increase in air flow from the aftermarket intake. Also, there are other intake such as the K&N air intake that has the places for the hoses to be reattached.
+Ryan Moore that air is going into the turbo to be compressed again. Manufactures do this to lower the noise thats coming from the engine. Also, that air might be containing some blow by oil. To comply with government regulation that air needs to go back in to the pcv system. This system does not improve engine power. Also, if you have good pcv system and oil catch can you will trap all the oil before going into your engine.
@@FocusedGarage So i'm looking to get one of these intakes.. but from Sixth Element.. they have an option where it says 1g or 2g... wth does that mean and which one does my 2018 Elantra Sport Turbo need lol
Idk if its just me but i installed a cold air intake. In my opinion and experience, the car is alot faster than a normal intake during cooler times like early morning (haven't tried evenings) but its feels similar or maybe tiny bit slower or faster during the hot sunny day and then maybe faster again at dawn when everything is cooler. I tested it myself even going uphill this mornimg at 5:50am going to work and i was very surprised at how much faster the needle was moving till 120mph when i had to let off because of trafic. Couldn't try it on a flat either cuz of trafic. Will have to try that again. I have video but my mom is subbed to me and watches all my videos so i don't want her to see it lol
Where did you get the intake? I have a 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport 1.6 Turbo and I wondering after disconnecting the BOV hose did you ever got the CEL (check engine light) on ? How many miles has you put on after the mod?
+Justin Leopold no this was just a random picture from the internet but black wheels do look good. If you are gonna dip them make sure to use one can per wheel so you can have a healthy coat of dip.
SXTH motor mount - easy install, massive difference. And the rawness that some people complain about is quick to go away as the mount breaks in over the first 1000 miles. Seriously, I'd argue that it's the most under appreciated mod.
Not without changing a couple other components but it will probably help your engine run cooler as air isn’t going through as many air ducts straight short ram lol.
Did the little breather come with the Big Gulp Kit? any reason you didnt decide to go for the Catch Can option? What other mods you planning for this car?
Thanks for the reply, I am picking my car up this week and am pulling the trigger on the big gulp but just trying to figure out what i am going to do for the exhaust. car will be a daily so the muffler delete might be a bit to much. any suggestions or what the owner is leaning towards himself?
+Sahin Aydin We don't own an Elantra sport and don't have any experience with them but over all when it comes to after market exhaust, they all drone. We would suggest that drive the car for a while and see if you like the stock exhaust. Maybe then try to listen to other exhaust in person. Cause you wont get the full experience through a video. After that you can decide.
+LadyLexiBeauty with the modern engines without a tune car doesnt see any performance gain. However intake would definetly sound better. Warranty is kind of a gray area. I would guess that just an intake by it self wont void any warranty.
Focused Garage I read up on it and by law they can’t void the warranty unless they can prove malfunction was due to a modified part. I appreciate the feedback. I’m trying to upgrade my Elantra’s performance...thanks for the info
Would it be okay to just unplug the hose that’s closest to the airbox to get a louder turbo spool? I’m gonna be ordering this soon but in the meantime i want those turbo noises.
+Orlando Negron cold side pipe is for the intercooler. Where the pipe goes from the intercooler to the throttle body. Cold air intake is the pipe that connects to the filter and turbo inlet.
You removed the original air intake that took cooler air from ahead of the radiator and replaced it with one that takes hotter air from under the hood! DUH. That is not a cold air intake its just a big tube with a minimally effective filter!
+Poppa B hey it's not our car! Owner was a friend and wanted this done. He was going off of the claims he was reading online but what he really wanted was the noise. Let me tell you, this intake sounds pretty cool.
@screaming chivo it does have less filtration capacity compared to the stock filter and if it's a oil filter over time will be more dirty. Without a dynotune in place minimal gains...might as well vent the bov tube you can get the same gains
Poppa B cold air intakes aren’t even designed for cooler air. They’re going to put more air into the engine faster. It’s always cold where I live so it wouldn’t be much of a concern to me and once you get moving it won’t matter
Ok thank you good to know. I got the 2018 and I am going to do some mods to it. This is definitely one I'm gonna do. I just got to find out if mine got a dual clutch transmission.
If you are talking about non turbo Hyundai 2.0 then you are better off not using a different intake setup, for these kind of filters to work properly they are oiled and it causes issues with sensors. There are drop in high flow filters for your stock airbox and they won't cause issues later on.
I know this one won't but k&n does make one for the SE I'm just wondering if it's worth it n like I said wouldn't wanna void the wareenty but I can't stand how slow this car is lol
Anything can be done with enough money but it would make more financial sense to just upgrade to a the Sport from the get go. The money spent to turn the standard one into a Sport would not be cheap.
That’s not considered a cold air intake, it’s just an intake. Unless it’s enclosed than it’s a cold air intake. That is just for looks not performance. An cold air intake k&n complete system with enclosed box and tube and filter is considered a cold air intake. Remember when you close the hood what is produce in the engine bay? Hot air, not cold. But cool video.
Certain dealers can be more picky than others when it comes to aftermarket parts. Some dealers are fine with mods whereas other dealers will not accept any mods. For example if your window stops working and you have a cold air intake, the dealer is not going to void your warranty. It is illegal for a dealer to void your warranty for simply having aftermarket parts installed.
We never claim if it is any better or worse. The people who make this intake claim more air volume through the larger diameter piping and bigger filter.
Focused Garage , I should have added a question mark. Its more like I've always wondered if its actually better for the car. Yeah bigger air volume but is the performance significant enough? Where did you get the intake? I have a 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport 1.6 Turbo and I wondering after disconnecting the BOV hose did you ever got the CEL (check engine light) on ? How many miles has you put on after the mod?
This intake fame from Torq Motorsports. No CEL has ever come on from the intake!
Focused Garage looking into this for my 17 Elantra sport, still no CEL? Any noticeable difference in performance or was it more for that nice sound??
No real increase in feel of performance. However no check engine like either. Mainly for noise reasons.
@@FocusedGarage sorry for coming so late, but we’re there any increases in say, MPG? I don’t expect much, maybe like 2 - 3 increase?
Is it okay to have that BPV hose unplugged?
As long as it isn't near water. It never sucks inwards, only blows out air.

What is next for my Elantra Sport ? ....recommendation...
+Orlando Negron intercooler would be a good one.
Tires are the simplest modd out there.
As an owner, I would recommend the intercooler resonator delete pipe, electronic boost control solenoid or a muffler delete.
SXTH motor mount - easy install, massive difference. And the rawness that some people complain about is quick to go away as the mount breaks in over the first 1000 miles. Seriously, I'd argue that it's the most under appreciated mod.
Would an aftermarket intake do much for an 2018 Elantra SEL?
No, probably not.
Not without changing a couple other components but it will probably help your engine run cooler as air isn’t going through as many air ducts straight short ram lol.
So the pipe doesn’t have that hole? For you to put that tube on it?
The new intake does not have a provision for the factory BPV hose.
Did the little breather come with the Big Gulp Kit? any reason you didnt decide to go for the Catch Can option? What other mods you planning for this car?
+Sahin Aydin the owner chose not to install the catch can. Breather came with the catch can. So far maybe an exhaust.

Not much to be gained in terms of performance, but the noises are worth it!
so what if I have a Elantra limited would this still be a great choice of cold air intake over the k&n brand

It has been done several times. Just make sure you plug the connection on the intake side.
Did you guys purchase any of the catch can options with this? They're pricey. But are they neccessary?
Catch can is a great piece of mind when it comes to a turbo engine.
