I think energy weapons are also really weak in NV comparatively. Even to make them viable as the player, you have to really spec into it. Whereas the high level ballistic guns just shred even if you're not built for it at all.
Damn, in the pre-war, power armour was used to drop into heavy areas to do a lot of damage. basically a tank. but like house says, that doesn't count for much when you're outnumber 15 to 1.
@jumbo9386incorrect. Talk with everyone in BoS bunker and you will learn that most veteran Paladins died during Operation Sunburst, with most current Knights and Paladins being newbies whose only training is from VR pods. Meanwhile, NCR veteran rangers are best of the best with plenty of experience, many actually being prewar ghouls with literally hundreds of years of combat experience. And from the more technical standpoint, pre-war power armor was designed to withstand cheap chinese rounds, and anything above .556 would begin to compromise the armor. Veteran rangers use .45-70 rounds (used to kill elephants), and anti-material rifles (used to destroy APCs and Humvees irl). So yeah, their armor would not keep them alive after more than 2-3 hits realistically. Their gauss rifles are powerful though, but they have less experience than the rangers, who also have the benefit of being more mobile on the field in lighter armor, so they win most of the time.
@jumbo It's just gameplay mechanics. DT is not that significant and the difference between NCR medium armor and Brotherhood heavy armor is minimal. Guns just hit harder than energy weapons unless you have a bunch of perks to boost them. The way NPC's work is that they can't have perks and just have raw skillset so energy weapons are always at a disadtantage for NPC's. And the Trail carbine, brush gun, ranger seqoia, and anti-material rifle count as some of the best weapons in the game.
I mean, when the opposition is armed with rifles that fire .50 BMG, a round meant for piercing vehicles, and have seen quite more action than the Brotherhood in New Vegas, I'm not suprised.
