    The Substance not getting into editing, sound, and cinematography baffles me. Those technical elements amplified that film to another level.
    Directing win would be an inspired choice, as that film just couldn't be made by another director.
    And everything crossed for Demi. She had me sobbing in that mirror scene. You could just feel and hear her inner dialogue throughout that film.

      @ Yeah, I’m not saying the best noms need to win. I mean, no Challengers score, no Wild Robot song, 13 Emilia Pérez nods… clearly the Academy was distracted and just went with whoever was the loudest. Team Chaos doesn’t care about quality. Team Chaos just wants all expectations subverted. I want this year’s Oscars to be The Last Jedi of Oscar ceremonies. Pure chaos gremlin, start to finish.

      I don’t think so. Either the Academy ignores the discourse (the organization is not progressive as advertised but highly conservative and bigoted) and allows Emilia to sweep. Or, they save face and give Zoe and the songwriting team two wins.

    • @axr7149
      @axr7149 7 часов назад

      @gabelogan5877 I am leaning more towards 2 wins at most. Don't forget that the preferential ballot is used for Picture, which means people have to rank their favorites and the film with the broadest overall likeability that also ranks high enough on ballots wins. If the old-fashioned system of "vote for 1 winner" system was used, then EMILIA PEREZ handily wins (BAFTA uses the same system, and I expect EMILIA PEREZ to win there mainly because the scandal erupted a little too late there and also because of the voting system), but the controversy paired with large factions of voters voting down (just as many as high ones) likely rules it out. Besides, every Picture winner since 2003 won at least one of either Director or Screenplay, and EMILIA PEREZ is not favored for either right now. PGA will be the indicator IMO since that is the only other preferential ballot winner vote.

    Wicked I think is definately winning Costume design and production design I think it can win editing and maybe Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande.
    My Predictions are:
    Best Picture: The Brutalist
    Best Director: Brady Corbet (The Brutalist)
    Best Actor: Adrien Brody (The Brutalist)
    Best Actress: Mikey Madison (Anora) or Demi Moore (The Substance)
    Best Supporting Actor: Guy Pierce (The Brutalist) or Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain)
    Best Supporting Actress: Ariana Grande (Wicked)
    Best Original Screenplay: Anora
    Best Adapted Screenplay: Conclave
    Best Cinematography: The Brutalist
    Best Costume Design: Wicked
    Best Production Design: Wicked
    Best Film Editing: Wicked or Anora
    Best Visual Effects: Dune Part 2
    Best Makeup and Hairstyling: The Substance or Wicked
    Best Sound: Dune Part 2
    Best Score: The Brutalist
    Best Original Song: El Mal (Emilia Perez)

    • @TheWokeWarlock
      @TheWokeWarlock 6 часов назад +1

      I actually think that the AI situation will cost the Brutalist all of its potential wins. I actually don’t think the Academy will care actually about the AI that was used… thats not the issue… but I think it will cost Adrian and Brady their respective Oscars and I don’t think it will win Best Picture now because of the subconscious factor. I think a lot of voters will struggle giving Adrien a win because he is supposed to be this high caliber “actors” actor and he has already won, he should be able to pull off an accent. Timothee for instance sang live on set and used zero autotune and zero AI. It’s also a stronger performance frankly. Brady will lose his for using the AI, and best picture for the same reason.
      The race is Waaaay to close for these kind of scandals. Emelia Perez is totally out because of Karlas tweets resurfacing, apparently the cast isn’t even going to the Luncheon and the official Oscars page unfollowed Karla. Then there is Anora and the issue that there wasn’t an intimacy coordinator and the content of the film has made that very problematic. There is a lot of drama this year.
      Personally I think this paves the way for Wicked, The Substance, and Conclave to do well. I see Wicked taking best pictures frankly and I think Ariana Grande is going to owe Karla a big hug because she just gave her Zoe’s Oscar.

    Fernanda Torres delivers an extraordinary performance in I’m Still Here, demonstrating her mastery of nuance, depth, and emotional intensity. With every scene, she captivates the audience, balancing raw vulnerability with a quiet strength that lingers long after the credits roll. Her ability to convey complex emotions with subtle expressions and precise timing is a testament to her artistic maturity and deep understanding of the craft.
    What makes her portrayal truly remarkable is the authenticity she brings to the role-every gesture, every silence, every glance feels deeply lived-in, as if she is not merely performing but embodying the very essence of the character. This level of commitment transforms the film into an immersive experience, making it impossible to look away.
    Her Golden Globe recognition is well deserved, not just as an acknowledgment of this singular performance but as a celebration of a career defined by excellence, fearlessness, and an unwavering dedication to storytelling. It’s a MASTERPIECE

      Olivia Colman for example does what Rachel and Emma scheme so even though all three are leads I’d accept Colman supporting and the fighting ladies as leads, but they as supporting was ridiculous.

There are also r@cist tweets about Islamic womyn's dress and the influence of Muslims in politics (I also live in a city with a strong Muslim population; the world isn't ending.)
      More to the point, Gascon bad mouthed Fernanda Torres and implied that her team was speaking out about him. There is no evidence of this. I want to know why Gascon is still a nominee. Speaking out against anothet nominee is a violation of Academy rules.

    Re: Best Editing for The Brutalist. At the end when Erzebet tells Van Buren about the rape he removes himself from the room and for the next 3-4 minutes his family/friends search for him with no resolution! Any editor worth their salt knows that you heavily cut that scene because it leads to nothing, especially when the movie is already 3:30+ long! Based on that alone the Editor for the Brutalist should not be under consideration.

  • @calapai7
    @calapai7 13 часов назад +8

    I wouldn't even call El Mal a good song, it makes absolutely no sense narratively, it introduces concepts which the movie has never touched and abandons immediately. It's only considered good because it's flashy, loud and because Saldaña hams it up.

    • @austinpelissier2131
      @austinpelissier2131 9 часов назад +1

      Rita, the woman who made a living by defending people she knew were guilty, then teamed up with a cartel leader, was oddly calling other people out for their corruption/past evil deeds? I think there could have been some moral dilemma plot in there somewhere if they had thought it through more. It seemed very random and out of no where, almost like there was a scene that got deleted that would have contextualized it.

    • @calapai7
      @calapai7 6 часов назад +1

      @austinpelissier2131 exactly!!! It could've been an interesting theme, maybe with Rita seeing Emilia take credit for her work, like her previous boss had done. But instead Emilia always makes sure to praise her, and all conflict between the two is avoided. Maybe Rita could've felt guilty about helping corrupt people whitewash their image through their donations, but she just calls it out in her head and nothing happens. In fact we have to assume that these people were successful in cleaning up their image.
      The movie's primary sin is that it is boring and refuses to take the story to interesting places. It instead settles for teasing things that are never expanded upon.

As I watched the movie, I said to myself I know lots of people are going to really get into this score, but Trent and Atticus did basically the same sort of thing with The Social Network score, which was infinitely better IMO. First of all, the ability to change your mind is not a flaw. Nowadays it is almost a sin, but it is truly a human ability. A quality even. If he changed his mind, that’s ok. Being undeterred, rigid in one’s opinions, that’s the problem. But I don’t think that’s the case here. There’s a lot of difference between what Brian thinks is gonna win and what he wishes would win.

    What is your opinion on the AI use in The Brutalist? After SAG ground Hollywood to a stop in their fight against the use of AI, I don’t think it would be a good look to award an AI enhanced performance. Do you think it has a chance to sink Brody’s chances? It would be a shame because his work in the film is great, but perhaps tainted.

It's a very clever script but its a standard body horror film. Nothing really any more original than the classic horror film The Stuff, just way better made.
