Same. That video where he generated RUclips comments using AI blew my mind at the time. Of course the result is nothing compared to what we can do today, but I think it was really good for the fact it was just running on some laptop cpu.
I've been making maps for my 3d games by literally manually typing in numbers into a file, *and* I still have barely any idea how to use blender. In fact it's largely *because* I have little motivation to learn blender or something that I do things the way I do. And also because, call me a masochist but I perfer doing it this way anyways
It's actually not that hard, just ridiculously tedious. wavefront obj and collada dae 3D models are both plain text and can easily be modified in any text editor, you just need to hate yourself a lot. I've done light editing of Collada files for minor fixes (like changing absolute texture paths to relative paths for sharing), but I'd never think of manually writing a 3D model. What a massive waste of time.
@@poudink5791 I thought so! Still that would be incredibly tedious. If you want to create a 3D shape by coding it, it's much easier to make it in a dynamic environment like Processing, instead of scripting it in a wav or Collada file and then have to import it in Blender or something to see if you got it right. That would take so much longer than a simple refresh.
@@poudink5791 I don't know how to use any 3D modelling software, so I wrote a script that used this fact to rotate a model I needed which was oriented incorrectly.

Cheers to your future endeavors, and keep the funny words comming magic man!
The rotation problem sounds like something that could be solved well using quaternions and Quaternion.AngleAxis, it allows you to rotate something by a vector in any direction with the only downside being you have to learn quaternions...
stacking 3 matrix operations is itself quite intuitive; the reason why the rotate and unrotate of z still changes the whole rotation axis of y is that matrix operations are not commutative, you need to undo any changes before applying others for that to be the case.
when i was really young, i loved watching your algicosathlon videos. now im a big bfdi fan and i discovered you were one of the creators of bfdi like two years ago, im really glad you're back

Glad to see you return :) You were a major inspiration for me deciding to study computer science in university. I've fallen a bit off track and will be finishing my degree a bit later than I planned, but I ain't giving up anytime soon 😎
You and your brother have been inspirations to me. Oddly enough, I learned about BFDI through a YTP video where basically, Rosie from Caillou was killing some BFDI competitors, and got grounded... Until BFDIA 6 would release. That joke did not age well, and the channel behind that video has shifted away from GoAnimate. Anyway, thanks for bringing BFDIA back, it is probably my favorite season. I am trying to make my own show similar to BFDI right now, actually, and I would just like to thank the two of you... I don't know if this is the right place to do that, but uh thank you!
Why not start the rotation from the "solved" state, and apply random rotations so that they all result in the "random" state after the same a mount of time, THEN, play the rotations backwards and at the same time, all the rotations will line up to the solved state.
I've been trying to rotate things in Processing for years!! I figured a way to pan a camera without Z rotation in the Processing app using dragged input, and I still to this day don't know exactly how I did it. This makes sense, I will try working with this!! Thank you so much carykh!

It is always good to be aware of different ways of representing 3D rotations, such as Euler angles, axis-angle, rotation matrix or unit quaternion. In this case the axis-angle representation would be an even simpler solution, assuming that functionality is available.
