If anyone is interested in the preset used in this video, it is available here: shop.line6.com/marketplace/jason-sadites-brief-eclipse-album-preset-tab-backing-track.html
EVH & Gear TV Network I was really pulling for the EVH Celestion to stand out but it’s warmth almost keeps it from announcing itself over some of the others. Amazingly, Line6 makes it so a person has no buyers remorse...you get ‘em all. 👍
Good job making this video :D I listened to all the cabs clicking around on the time line comparing them (thanks for posting the times when each cab starts!) and I actually like the stock cab/direct sound best.
Thank you so much :-) Yeah I thought having the time stamps would make it easier! Yeah the stock cab is how it was dialed in but tough to compare it to the speaker models recorded through a very different mic. Just put the DI one there to show what the original preset was.
I friggin knew it. I wanted a 2x12 from the jump but ended up buying 2 of the 1x12 to run a stereo rig. I run two different speaker sims at once for a fuller sound. Not sure if I'll be buying a 212 now...tempted though. Thanks for the video Jason.
As much as I like the new cabs and some IRs I found that turning off the cab or ir on the Helix and using the LF-RAW mode on the powercab feels more like playing a real amp in a room. Try it, you’ll like it. Grammatico sounds fabulous!
Jason Sadites Yea, I believe I temporarily lost perspective playing with LF-RAW mode. I’m back to my favorite Ownhammer IRs. I reset my ears by playing through my Mesa Lonestar Special this morning. I think it’s good to periodically play through a real amp to keep grounded.
Interesting to hear a side-by-side. Previously my personal favorite PC+ 112 mode was "natural" and adjusting Helix preset to taste accordingly. Even more interesting is that my favorite of the updated speakers is the "Dino" and upon hearing the side by side, there's hardly any difference between the two except for what appears to be a slight inclusion of the high frequency driver inherent in the Dino. Thanks!
Thanks Jason! Excellent demo especially since you showed how they sit in the mix and in isolation. I am wondering if the placement of the stock cab/IR in the Helix chain matters when switching to the speakers in the PowerCab.
Although not an actual ‘Academia Nut’ by any means, I was a good listener. The first day of economics in college I was introduced to ‘Ceteris Paribus’...’other things remaining equal’. Leveling variables is CRUCIAL in comparisons but many folks do not take the necessary care to ensure that. You do. And, I think that is a terrific way to differentiate yourself. The care & time you put into explaining how the comparators are held constant, is a situational-elevator. We can simply ‘jump in’ because you didn’t. Pretty cool. Scientific but not overly so. Having said all that, I can’t believe how the speaker model sounds vary. Some are really, really jangly alone but cut do better in the mix. Subtle differences yet not subtle. I’m of the ‘spend as much of your (minimal) paper route money as you can on the head & cab and make the rig work’ generation. Too many options make me want to bite my nails 😂. (I currently use the Firehawk1500 as my FRFR).
Question: I already own a 112 Plus. For the best stereo sound would I be better off buying another 112 Plus and linking them with an AES cable and spreading them apart, or would you recommend trading in the 112 Plus for a 212 Plus and use it’s built-in stereo?
Excellent comparison Jason, thank you... I thought 11. Herald - Celestion G12H(55) Heritage sounded the best of all the speaker models with that particular amp model, especially in the track!
Question from a fellow Canuck. I’m very interested in your opinion. I already own a 112 Plus. For the best stereo effects, would I be better off buying a second 112 Plus and spreading them apart and hooking them together with the AES cable... or, would I be better off trading in the current 112Plus for a 212Plus? Cheers
Now that you have played both the Mission cabinet and the power cab 212. What is your thoughts between the two. I'm wanting to buy one of them just not sure which?
Is the 2 x 12 less directional and beamy than the 1 x 12 ? I'm not a fan of closed back cabs for that reason too. My 112plus sound dramatically different when I just move lightly to either side and sounds pretty small outdoors. If anyone has any tips to address that I am all ears !
I actually like the Direct tone. From there my favs (which is subjective to me of course) would be ... Cream, Jarvis, Lecto, Herald, Shade. Great video brother.
Thanks so much Mike :-) Yeah the direct tone is how it was dialed in and the ribbon mic I used for the other demos is much darker. Gave a good comparison between the speaker models.
Hey nice video Jason! It would be nice if you can add "chapters" to go directly to the speaker we want to ear and make a comparison between the differents speakers models would be much easier.
cool vid Jason. My faves are 1 (Direct), 5 (Jarvis), 11 ( Herald), 12 (Brown), and 14 (Jetson). The others were too muddy for my taste. Its cool they added more emulations in the new gen software for current owners. great job Line 6. great job Jason!
(Apologies if this has already been asked - scanned the comments and didn't see it) Do you know if Line6 is using any technologies like Eminence DSR for their various speaker emulations in the Powercab 212 Plus, or are these just straight IRs? I realize Helix will just support standard IRs, but given Line 6 owns the ecosystem within the Powercabs, I was hoping they did something a little more dynamic with the impulse responses. Thanks and really enjoy your videos!
I think I have the answer... The manual states that the signal input levels should be mostly yellow, maybe with an occasional red blip. The sound is said to be more authentic vs solid green. As you mention in the video, the SNR will be optimized as a result, but I think it's more than that. I believe they are modeling speaker distortion in addition to the basic transfer function (IR) and keeping the levels in the "yellow" allows you access to the non-linear part of the speaker transfer curve. ...and I just found the quote in the manual: "When the signal LED turns yellow, the speaker in Powercab will have the most realistic non-linear breakup characteristics." So thank you for the gain advice - I am now "running a yellow light". :-)
QUESTION / CHALLENGE: Hello Jason! I have gotten SO MUCH more out of my Helix I got last December due to YOU... I am SO grateful for your patches and insights... I just watched a video on Tim Pierce hanging in L.A. Vintage shop and was REALLY intrigued by an amp that Jimmy Page played lots in early Zep days.. called the SUNDRAGON... might you do a Patch featuring that amp?? It is really cool sounding rig and I think YOU are the guy to put this together. THANKS JASON!!! you help us all ROCK better! Sincerely TH
The direct was only so folks could hear what the preset was dialed in as. The reason they sound dark is because I was using a ribbon mic with no eq. The video was more to show the relative change from speaker model to speaker model. Glad you liked it :-)
have you A/B'd the power cab/helix with the DT25/helix combo? Just curious if there's a major sound improvement (beyond the ability to use different speaker models in the power cab)... thanks!
Could you show is how you would use this in stereo mode with a Helix for live situations? I'm interested in wet dry as well as stereo delays/rotary/chorus. As always great video
@@JasonSadites just downloaded it. I think my speakers blown. I can make this sing into my blues Jr, but I get this really narly harsh digital clip when I play into my CPU. Even at low volume. Thanks for all the great educational videos and tone downloads. Great to learn from a professional musician/sound engineer.
Jarvis was my favorite, but now I'm not so sure. I've been on my PC+ 112 enjoying them for 24 hours straight (well except for the 2 hours I stepped away for a gig)

Yes! Love it (and feel privileged I had a sneak peek) Totally awesome demo my friend!
Thanks so much buddy :-) SO glad you liked it and really looking forward to your show tonight!

AWESOME! as usual. Got to get one of these next. I'm using 2 Headrush 112's and really love those so far.
Thank you so much R.L :-) I think you will love it!
The Fun never stops 👍😍
Thanks Jason
Haha, it sure doesn't :-) My pleasure and thank you!
Wow, clear winners to me,
- greenback
- evh
- v30.
Thanks for doing this.
Thanks and my pleasure :-)

outstanding playing and great demo. Now I need one of these! Liked the Jensens best surprisingly...
Thank you so much Steve :-) I don't think you will be disappointed!
I checked the price and it's gonna have to wait...😞

It is a great unit Steve :-) Hope you enjoyed the video and my pleasure!

I have tried it and it was not for me. I really enjoy my PowerCabs on FRFR mode for the most part.

I’m back to my favorite Ownhammer IRs.

Really awesome video Jason, very impressive
Thank you so much Alec :-)
Thanks Jason! Excellent demo especially since you showed how they sit in the mix and in isolation. I am wondering if the placement of the stock cab/IR in the Helix chain matters when switching to the speakers in the PowerCab.
My pleasure and thank you :-) The placement would have somewhat of an effect but not so much to make it a big deal in my experience...

Thank you so much for the kind words :-) And Yes, I totally agree that the level matching is crucial!
Was wondering if you could ask your connections at Line 6 if they are ever going to update the Powercab Firmware?
Thanks for this video and sample!
My pleasure Andrew :-)

Most Canadian Shirt Ever!
Great video, Jason. I'd have waited for this had I known it would be released, but I still like my 1x12 Powercab plus.
Haha, thank you so much :-)

Paul, both are very very good! It is hard for me to really pick. Won't go wrong either way!
Greenback 25’s were my fav. Curious as to how “muffled” some of these speaker models sound...esp the Creamback M-65 model...where’s the “top end”??

Does the Powercab 1x12 contain the same features as the 2x12? I realize the power is obviously different, weight too.
good demo, thanks

Glad to hear you enjoy the videos :-) I will have to look into that amp as I am not familiar with it. I did do a Supro patch a while back though...
www.sundragonamps.com/ !
All the speaker models sound too dark. The stock cab sounds the best by far. Strange. Awesome tone btw. What amp model is that?
yeah I agree I liked the Direct #1 the most out of all of them. some werent too dark but yes many sounded very muddy

I have same question! My DT 25 died and not sure if I should spend money to fix or go for power cab or similar option.
Could you show is how you would use this in stereo mode with a Helix for live situations? I'm interested in wet dry as well as stereo delays/rotary/chorus. As always great video
Thank you! I have covered a lot about using stereo FX and Wet Dry Wet presets in past videos. I would use it much like I would in the past vids.

Agreed. that was the one that stood out to me too. All were very usable, but 5 was my fave, then 1, 3 and 8
助かります。
Debating between the 2x2 and the mission Gemini 2x12
Both are very fine FRFR systems...
