You should have just updated & fixed the assistant's degrading voice to text and other features that made it the greatest assistant ever. 🤦🏻♂️
This half baked gemini is useless, especially when it becomes my default assistant when installed.

Why get rid of the translate screen button? That's my most used one along with reading out loud.. so I swtiched back to the old assistant. Live in Bali, Indonesia btw and travel a lot so the translate screen button is so handy and quick
I hope they push out an update to quick switch between Gemini and Assistant. For my daily use, I don't wanna deal with the extra wait time. But if the Google Assistant showed the AI stars in the bottom corner that would switch it to Gemini, that would be nice.
They probably won't. If anything, they will probably work in tandem. My reasoning behind this is that some assistant features still work but a lot don't. What I think is happening is they're training Gemini to be able to decide when to hand off the command to the assistant. Or at least something along those lines. Currently the window that appears when using Gemini will display the assistant icon when the assistant is taking action as opposed to Gemini for tasks like sending a text. I have a feeling that as the assistant capabilities become more integrated into Gemini, we will eventually see the discontinuation of the assistant branding. Another example of this is reminders. AI models are currently trained to be non-agentic, meaning they are trained to only respond when prompted which might explain why reminders do not work at the moment because they would require the model to act autonomously. However I think behind the scenes Gemini will eventually be able to hand off these kinds of requests to the assistant, and what will appear as Gemini sending you reminder notifications will actually be the assistant.
@@squarewheel9113 The absolute worst part about this is that Gemini can't do anything without unlocking your phone. I use my assistant so I don't need to touch my phone most of the time.
I tried Gemini but went back to plain old GA because when I asked for flilght status of a particular flight, Gemini did not answer the query but gave me a history of other flights. A total answer out of left field. Went back to GA, simple, straightforward, to the point.
Yea i dont like having to do the extra tap for it to answer. However, if you say "hey google" instead of holding down the power button, it'll respond without needing to touch the screen. Still needs a few interface tweeks tho
This wasn't what I was expecting. I thought Assistant with bard was goong to be an integrated update to the regular assistant. So it would still work as normal for simple requests, but would be able to give indepth answers and insights when neccisary. But I suppose choice is always better
It's not perfect but it seems pretty good to me. With Gemini I can quickly set timers open apps and change my thermostat as if it were just the regular assistant, all without having to switch back and forth

@@panathatube they feel pretty integrated to me. Basic commands happen as if it's the assistant doing it instead of Gemini and it even shows the Assistant symbol when executing the command. I'd still like some interface tweaks tho, like not having to press the send arrow after bringing up Gemini with the power button but the assistant features I tried so far still seem to be present and pretty quick
@@panathatube tho I gotta admit some thing took a step backwards. Now when I ask Gemini, "play the news", it doesn't play the news podcasts like the Assistant does. The integrating feels good but incomplete

I installed it on my phone and PC, and the questions that I asked are synced on both devices. That is pretty cool.
I installed it on my S24+ and it didn't require an extra button push when I invoked "Hey Google"...but it's DEFINITELY slower. Also noticed the upgrade option to "Gemini Advanced"...between Samsung's hedging on charging for the AI features in the future and Gemini's "upgrade" path, not sure I like where this is going...
Say "okay Google" to access Gemini without having to click the send button as well as have it read the response back to you. also click the back button when it says its not available yet and try getting back into it a second time to access

Idk, other than image generation, it just seems like there's nothing different from what we can already do with assistant and lens/search + Ai labs...even on older devices. And if you install Gemini it defaults to your assistant app and it's lacking a ton of features that assistant can do. Why rush something that's slower at doing everything I can already do?

On my Pixel 7, I paused your video on the bird pic, Tapped the image, tapped lens, + "add to your search", and I vocally added "what kind of bird is this?" It generated the same Ai results and way faster than gemeni. (You can just turn on web summarization in Google Search.)
On my P8 I used the new "circle (to square) to search". Tap the home button, outline the bird, it turns into the lens resizing "square", and Then it gives the same lens results, plus any added search results.
Just give me a more efficient assistant with gemeni/ai extras i can turn off or on. Who tf is spending $20/mo? 😂😂

You gotta look again lol. Lens and assistant are broadly just doing a google search/giving a really simplistic answer. Generating images, sure. But man, this can do so much more. It can gather information and organize it into a table, summarize and explain almost anything you're looking at, it can actually just straight up answer real questions lol. It can write an entire post for you, literally write code, etc, etc.
One time I took fed it like 30 RUclips comments and asked it to summarize them for me. It gave me this detailed write up that saved me like half an hour in like 15 seconds. If you think there's nothing different I don't know what to tell you.

All I can say is, everything you did in the video, I got the same results on Pix 8 using "circle to square to search", without gemeni installed.
Same on pixel 7. With Ai features enabled in the Google search app, I get the exact same Ai results about the bird using lens. (after using the "add to your search" function, the gen Ai kicks in). Also webpage summarizing is the exact same in Google search.
Why would I open gemeni, tap "add screen", then tap go, & then wait 3 seconds, when I can get Ai summarizations faster in the Google app? It's not worth disabling the Google Assistant's deep integration, when Gemini is this limited with day to day commands. Just to gain some features I can already do faster or some Ai most people will rarely use?
I get that Gemeni can do some cool stuff but the average person doesn't care about code, generating a pic, or summarizing RUclips comments. We can just go to the Gemini web page and play around. Most people want an efficient assistant for regular daily tasks.
Why can't Google just make it simple and just make some AI/Gemini features available (when they're completely ready) and give us the option to opt in? Hopefully everything will eventually work together but right now it's far from it, which is why I uninstalled the app.
*A few things I tried, Gemini can't do:*
launch routines (and I have a lot for my phone settings and home devices)
create calendar events
View agenda
Add items to & create shopping lists
Create tasks/reminders
Use interpreter mode
Take me to an exact destination in maps driving mode in one command
instantly view traffic and forecast for specific road or highway
(I asked Gemini and this is what I got:Traffic on interstate North is currently moving at a normal speed. It is expected to take 1 minute to cover 1 ft.) 😂😂😂
Send an email to a specific person
Check for Android system update
remember stuff like "I already took my meds" & access the memory
launch "read this page to me"
launch Google password manager

Although saying that , the old assistant it seems has had some features taken away , like , i used to play trivia occasionally while i was doing chores around the house , it appears google has killed the games off , at least in my neck of the woods ( Australia ) .

The Gemini is better at answering questions but it needs some improvements which I believe is fixable. 7:17 The advanced Gemini must be a much more exciting to used. This is the right way to go. 9:36 I like how the assistant app effectively turn off the studio lights, this is fantastic.

I changed back to Google assistant for now. I hate having to click the go button to turn my smart devices on or off. I asked it to pause my music. It gave me a write up on muting music.

Ok. I normally a beta tester anyway so since you bright it up I went and I loaded it onto my OnePlus Open. It's now the default. I still have the Google search bar on my home screen and a Microsoft CoPilot icon as well. Let's see how well this goes.
There's no Wear OS version for Pixel Watch 2 yet.

I can download the app on my S24+ but when launched, I get an error message that "Gemini isn't available". Is it a Pixel exclusive currently?

I have the same issue with my S24 ultra. I get an incompatible device error.
Z fold 5 did not require an extra button push. I use google assistant to constantly create events, seems gemini is not going to do this, at least for now. I did not think i would ever say this, but im sure glad i have bixby. It works great for voice event, task scheduling. So i still at least have this functionality.
All the AI`s are the same i think mate , they all have some areas they function well in , and other areas they do not , bixby can do stuff , but in some ways bixby is just dumb as dog shit , weirdly it seems bixby can complete a whole series of tasks in one hit doing them in sequence one after the other impressively , but then if you ask bixby to do one simple item , and bixby falls in a heap , for instance navigation , i would ask bixby to take me to destination X on my Galaxy multiple times with the correct pronunciation and all the destination details , and it would try and navigate me to america ..... which is ok , but i dont have a row boat and im in Australia :) .
I even tried typing the destination in and bixby still got it wrong every single time lol .
On my own galaxy device with location turned on , every single time bixby would ask , where is my location im starting from , DUH !
yet if i used googles ai on my very same galaxy device no matter where i am and said take me home , instantly up would pop the map and away it would go with the correct directions , and even Siri can do that !
In saying that , googles Ai and Siri too also have their fail moments , just imo not as often as bixby , but yes bixby does do certain things very well ..

Interesting in the UK I can access the web app (as I could Bard), they offer Google One with AI Premium (£18.99/mth) but I can't install the app on my Pixel Fold.

Unfortunately on my z fold 4, it's not coming up when I use the assistant gesture despite selecting it to replace google assistant.
I didn't have to change any settings, it just worked.

@@scaryifliteral tyty That's what I ended up doing. Kind of defeats the purpose the way they have it set up now. Rendering Gemini nano useless as well as Google Assistant. Doesn't seem like they fought it through 👀 for Pixel owners especially. ✌️

When you say "hey google" instead of using the button it will give you automatic results. You won't need to hit the button. Im curious to see how android auto works with it.

What's the point of speaking if you have to push a button anyway? Couldn't they do it like chatgpt where you can have a seamless conversation without any buttons to push?

If they combined the GOOGLE ASSISTANT and GEMINI and made powerfull AI which means erase from cons side of google asistant and gemini's cons sides and combines both pros and made GoMini AI Superpowefull Ai . That would be Insane Awesome

I live in Ms and it won't load in my pixel fold or my Motorola edge plus 23 or S23 Ultra.
It's working on my s23 Ultra. I'm thinking there are some issues, hopefully resolved soon.

The extra button press and the length it takes to get answers was an immediate uninstall lol I out the bard/Gemini shortcut back on my home screen for now 4:19
When you use the "Hey Google" prompt it bypasses the button press.
The new chatgpt toggle in android lets you keep a fluid conversation with a very capable AI without having to press a button each time. I wonder how come nobody is talking about how superior is this solution in comparison with gemini app.
As stated in my pinned comment, the need to hit the send button is gone. That's been fixed so it now behaves as it did with Assistant. Beyond that, the free version of ChatGPT is majorly hamstrung by not having up to date data.
The other day I asked it who it thought would win the Superbowl and it said it doesn't have up to date information.
Maybe, but you still have to repeat the hey google command every time. And the answers take several seconds longer than those of gpt's. I don't discuss the quality of the information, which is obviously better in Gemini advanced than in gpt-3.5. But in terms of usability i prefer the fluid conversation I get with chatgpt voice
Do not convert to Gemini many issues you can't use it while the screen is locked and there is not enough settings or to change the voice that speaks to you now can someone tell me how to return it to the old way I hate Gemini

Just tried installing it on my Pixel 8 Pro opened the app and it told me "Gemini isnt currently available. Please try again later." Not sure why.

Good breakdown, I have to say I enjoyed it. I actually downloaded the app and enjoy using it so far except for the second step that you mentioned earlier given the fact that you have to unlock your device despite allowing my assistant to function while my device is locked. This seems to be something of a conflict
I have a iPhone 13 Pro Max. IOS is straight up garbage. Waiting for the Pixel Fold 2. As usual Apple is years behind in AI and when it finally shows up, I'm sure they will act like they invented AI.
Gemini will be available on IOS as are most Google apps.

Gemini often ask me to unlock the phone for answers and I can't use the existing Assistant voices. I wish Gemini can work independently rather than replacing Assistant. GA is still the best as my daily driver
