Lyrics:
We’re from the block where it rains
Where we create barricades
Keep opposition away
That’s why we are strapped with the K’s
Don’t get kidnapped from your place
Cuz it could happen today
Not knowing how to behave
That is a sign that you may
Just loose your life what a waste
Your body found in a lake
You f*cked around and the fisherman found you drowning for days
You know we come from a place
Where people smile but it is fake
How could they smile if you look around they are surrounded by pain
I’ve seen the sky turn to grey
It took the light from the day
It’s like the heads of the state
Ain’t comprehending the hate
That the oppressed generate
When they’ve been working like slaves
To get some minimum wage
You turn around and you blame
Them for their anger and rage
Put them in shackles and chains
Because of what they became
WE ARE THE MONSTERS YOU MADE
Calling me a monster, calling us fake
You make the minotaur the dinosaur wake
Calling me a monster, just ‘cause we say
No way, no way, no way
Calling me a monster, make no mistake
That there’s only so much that you can take
La di da do di da do day
We are the monsters you made
I bet they thought it was cool
Probably thought we was fools
When we would break all the rules
And skip them classes in school
Because the teacher dem teaching what the white man dem teaching dem European teachings in my African school
So f*ck dem classes in school
F*ck mongo park and the fools
That said they found river niger they’ve been lying to you
Aint no denying the truth
See what im tryin to do
Is draw the line for the mothers crying we’re dying as youths
Come walk a mile in my shoes
See if you smile at the truth
See if you digest your food
That’s when you might have a clue
Of what the f*ck we go through
Your f*cking lucky if you
Live through the day better pray that God always staying with you
Aint f*cking safe anyday the reaper ‘ll be coming for you
We need a change and it aint no way ima take an excuse
My niggaz finding a way
Or f*cking smile in the grave
This is the price that you pay
WE ARE THE MONSTERS YOU MADE
Calling me a monster, calling us fake
You make the minotaur the dinosaur wake
Calling me a monster, just ‘cause we say
No way, no way, no way
Calling me a monster, make no mistake
That there’s only so much that you can take

Us blacks in America been trying to tell the world. United is the only way. That's how THEY took over. Because we dont aline and team up like they do.

Burnaboy is one of the top artists of Africa. Please like if u agree
Thanks for the likes, please pray for Nigeria
That is facts though.
@George can I ask you why it's a flop?
@George lmao 😂 don't jump to the conclusion that this album is average. AF was really good but this new album is better it's a revolutionary, eye opening, he tells a story of his life, its entertaining and its the number 1 album in 50 countries. Are you Nigerian btw?

Past 500 years of History of Africa explained in 4 minutes by Burna.....Love Africa from India 🇮🇳❤️......Both of Our Continents suffered Harsh Colonial Period
It is important to share this video...how much we can....the message is clear: "It is over!!!"...The time is coming
Love the unity
Hi I am from the U.S. and love this song it speaks the truth for all black people all over the world that went through this
Burna is speaking for millions of Africans please let’s come together
This is what needs to be trending ; this is the music I want on the radio; & Burna you’ve impressed me and great duo I’m stuck on replay
Your soo right!
African greatest of all time
Burna Boy; you're a giant. Forests can no longer hide your artistic genius.
Love this from Zambia.
Every time I listen to this track... I get a mixture of emotions... everything from Anger & Pride to Positivity, Progression & Hope. Especially with Fela Kuti and Ama Ata Aidoo... at the beginning and end of the song.
thank you for the names.
♥️♥️
"Since we met you people 500 years ago, look at us, we've given everything, you are still taking.....".-Ama Ata Aidoo
It's time to rise, Africa!!!!!
Clearly you a leader.
How do you recommend we arise?
The West is a poison to our people. Our Kulture is rich and the Ancestresses and Ancestors prepared the way. Our Hue-manity is our strength. Balance is our Essence. They only have hate, chaos and destruction. Our Leaders back home are beholden to them. Change comes from the people. And, unfortunately, some will have to be left behind. We can't continue playing checkers while the world is playing chess to our demise.
The monster we create?!?

Keep share this video clip...It deserves to be a eternal viral...like a praying to justice
I know that burna boy has blown up a lot ever since 2017 but I still feel like burna boy is still underrated. This song is so beautiful with such deep meaning🤧
"Teaching the European things in my African schools". At this point, Burna Boy is more than just a musician.
This is more than music, the uprising of the African people has started thanks to burns boy and this track. The sleep giant is coming
I don't know if things have changed now, but when I was at school we would learn about mungo park, williem wilberforce, vasco da gama, mary slessor, the British royal family, etc. Very few Africans were mentioned; in fact, I only remember Usman Dan fodio and queen Amina - and that was probably through conversation.
We need to have a good sit down and write & teach OUR OWN history - using British textbooks and their syllabus for subjects like Social Studies, History, ...is very damaging. It adds to the self-hate and internalised racism. We had GREAT KINGDOMS and accomplished A LOT before the Europeans arrived. In fact they learnt, and developed their knowledge, from us. And most of the time, will take credit for their "breakthroughs". E.g. writing & record keeping, medicine, architecture etc
And then before they left, they clumped us together into countries that worked in their favour - they divided Africa into sections and chose who will have each section - and not according to culture, ethnicity, language, etc like they have in Europe (the Spanish have Spain, Germans have Germany, Portuguese live in Portugal); instead we have countries like Nigeria with over 250 languages, but the 3 major ones (Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa) have very different cultures, traditions, religions, ethos and outlook! This has caused a lot of tension, which in turn leads to lack of trust and cooperation. So how can such a huge, yet diverse nation, move forward smoothly? It can't.
Anyway, sorry about the long speech; just something to think about, I guess. Love and blessings to all! ✊🏿🖤🌺🌺🌺
Considering most sub saharan african nations never invented the wheel, that is probably a good thing
@@macedonianfighter6987 Neither did Europeans, smart@##! You haven't a clue how many ideas and inventions were copied from outside Europe! Who's the dumb one now? 🙄😒
@@msontopoftheworld what do countries that have white history have to do with african history ? African countries also dont teach european history lol. Europeans also didnt devide africa that were arabs and the africans themselves. European countries never invaded a single african country except for Belgium in congo. Britain had a trading harbor in south africa that they captured from the Dutch peoole which caused alot of white people to live there since south africa was a mining place. The rest of africa was only europeans coming to african slavemarkets and after that they left again. Stop creating fake stories that never happened come with sources if you try to spit your fake nonsense.
I'm a Black AFRICAN American woman and black Americans feel the message within the song. Blood bonded by Africa.

You are not black. You are shades of colours. You are Bantu, which means "people/human being. Even the word Africa was actually from a man of Italian descent called Africanus. Word Black has similarity with Negro. They are both derogatory. Black is an absence of colours. It is white supremacists, and imperialist terms. The one who called himself/herself white is actually of European descent. Why people of India didn't called themselves dark skinned people but Indian from India. The natural or ancient people of nowadays called America, are natives or indigenous people. So therefore, we are not black/dark/brown. We are PEOPLE.
As an African this song sends the chills down my spine. Very mystical, emotional and creative, speaking to hearts deep down. The monsters our societies made stare us in the face daily. We hope this song touches the hearts of policy makers, corrupt politicians and the likes, to change their ways and mentality for good.

Who is here after we won the GRAMMYS?
Right here! American fan from NYC! 🇺🇸
You....
I have always known this song will push him very close to the Grammy. I’m a Nigerian based in US, but it will surprise you to know that a Native American actually brought my attention to this song. A lot of them (the African Americans) especially love this track. They believe Burna was dedicating this to them as well. So this song is not really speaking about Nigeria but the oppressed all over the world. I heard P-Diddy beating his chest about this track, calling Burna a Grammy candidate. When people like these are beating their chest for you, it’s going to be touch for people to rip off what you truly deserve. Nice one Oluwaburna!

Yes ... this is a solid Grammy stuff
Great tune sure the Grammy is a award but entirely Oyibo driven. So would they really care about the content of the song? I doubt it more a show of who wears what to the show. I also hate African artist rocking up in Gucci, Versace and other crap instead of supporting local designers.

@@Fredas_Lifestyle he is in London...and Has a sick mom🙄
For real tho💯✊🏾
We are black and proud of our colors,Africa must unite and develop without the west! BURNA IS THE VOICE OF AFRICA
If only our greedy leaders would be wise enough to. Our problems are not the foreigners but our own very people, the leaders we elect into power. They are only there for their own selfish reasons.
This magic will last for centuries. Well-done Burna🔥
Some people won't want to hear this song. Put it on repeat for them.

Greatest release burna boi
Am your biggest fan ever
Burna boy is a not only musician but also evangelist, who pass true messages of hope, evil government, poverty in Africa 🌍 expecially in Nigeria as a result of bad leadership.
I swear the end got me, when the woman said ‘Do you think this is over?’ ‘Over where!’ Den dey burnt the money.... It Shows how insignificant shaytans treasures are to us.
Yes that’s Ama Ataa Aidoo speaking

"YOU KNOW WE COME FROM A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE SMILE BUT IT'S FAKE. HOW COULD THEY SMILE?, IF YOU LOOK AROUND THEY ARE SURROUNDED BY PAIN"... These words chopped onions right in my eyes😭😭😭. May God forgive our oppressors and have mercy on Africa
Why would he forgive them? They must repay us for all the death, the damages and the suffering. That's it
Pearl well said
@@blackpearl2855 I agree with you on that one, it's about time for tables to turn now
real talk. everyones talking about being victims and slaves. but in history the place that was slaves for one of the longest was England. slave to the Romans, slaves to the Saxons , slaves to the vikings from 43AD to 1066. but people dont want to speak about the truth and speak about..... the real monsters they make. come back to me in another 1000 years then we will talk about slavery and oppressors.
@@waynewayoaveyard9397 mmm🤔🤔 I didn't know that England suffered slavery for a long time. Thanks Wayne for the info😊
I've read many of the comments below. I am Canadian and will be perhaps a rare one because I see a large love and respect of Burna Boy from Africans.
But I gotta tell ya.
I grew up on very white music.
Yet his music reached me.
What does that tell you.
You know I have never shown hatred to any race but I needed to hear this nonetheless.
I wish more white people would not just listen to Burna Boy but feel him.
His versatile talent is one that I ascribe to Nigeria.
From my understanding Jidenna has Nigerian blood, who's music like Burna Boys has great range.
Burna Boy did a song with A.K.A. Kiernan Forbes aged 35. You know when I heard he was gunned down I cried.
Too young man.
There are tons of great African musicians, I love the sound of Bensoul, Souti Sol, I don't think Burna is the best because the best ain't come around yet.
I'm just saying there's talent in Africa, its just not being pushed by big business to the benefit of Africans.
You know whats really missing these days.
Real empathy and response, or rather in some cases just dont meddle and have faith in the competence of others, and stop play acting like saviours when thats clearly just bs.
Like you know Apes see smiles as a threat and in most instances with white colonizers they present a smile but humans can use a smile to convey happiness or deceive. I'd assume the ladder at this point if I were African.
As it goes in Canada violent crime has gone up %35, the USA has all kinds of backwards problems trust me the only leverage the US has is there exploitation of others. Without you and South America, India and many other parts of the world where they exploit the work force.
Africans have been manipulated and programmed made to feel insecure and chastised for being angry for it.
Its a royal shame.
Ive read many comments from Africans and thats how I know these things.
This song sums up that atrocious attrition.
