Add or embed Fiberglass mesh tape on the stucco base coat, preventing hairline cracking in the finish coat. Will this prevent all hairline cracks from returning?
Of course not, but it’s all a contactor can do to limit the hairline cracking.
If one home is shifting and you have a large, heavy wooden door in the front of your home that makes your home vibrate when opened or closed, let alone slammed.
No amount of fiberglass mesh tape will stop any stucco walls from hairline cracking.
Plus, there is a list a mile long that also creates hairline cracking in all homes.
This mile-long list has been presented in at least 10 of our videos on separate occasions.
Hairline cracking is a leading concern for contractors, homeowners, and anyone else who lives in a stucco home.
Add fiberglass mesh for stucco cracks embeds the crack; thus, hairline cracking in stucco basecoat is less likely to return.

I move to minneapolis by mistake, and purchased a stucco old house, lot of crack.... and i was worry too much after getting the estimate.... here, there, there here.... 13,000$ to fix this, 7,000 $ to fix that.... luckily i found your vide clips online, i kept watching over over again to do 1 of my projects.... the 7,000$ estimate of fixing cracks, patch, redash the house: i spent 1,050$ to finish this project, and have lot of materials left.

I moved to America from the UK and I don't understand this insane lawsuit nature. I went to politely inform my next door neighbor about how her gardener throws giant piles of yard waste over the fence and just leaves it in my garden. Cleaning it up has become a weekly chore. She said "well you're welcome to have your lawyer contact me," and slams the door shut.
Strange! A bad hat using an anonymous person who may have contractor insurance. Document your before and after maintenance with photos and contact your insurer.

Hi kirk, if my tape is a little old or the wall is a bit damp I pre - spray the crack with carpet spray glue, works great

Evening Jason Cutts, man, that is a drag old tape that get air losses it's stickum, damp or cold walls don't grip as it is, good thing I live here where the sun shine often, however me wife and I visit her mum in England often, but my chore there is finding good pubs and what pints to order, mostly what I see are sheep and rock walls with seashells on the tops.

For a crack in a square stucco post (on the corner seam), would you recommend repairing with Fiberglass mesh base coat or elastometric sealant?

As far as I know fiberglass mesh should only be used in EIFS, my boss told me the fiberglass mesh is only to add structural strength to the foam insulation other wise it won't be used because it's pointless otherwise besides using it to sift out bags of mud that end up absorbing the water molecules in the early morning
Evening Jacob kindsvatter, fiber mesh is used on all styrofoam molds or it should be as it give it strength,
The dry-Vit plastering system from Europe uses a lot of fiberglass mesh especially at the bottoms of buildings as they need strength usually called panzer mesh, named after the panzer tank, as it is strong fiberglass.
When I was working with the plastering union we did a lot of hospitals ands schools with Dry-vit as it was super light weight, insulated plus lasted forever.

On synthetic stucco if you see the mesh fiberglass do you have to redo the whole wall with brown coat
It's apparent from your video that you have such an exasperating, rampant suing culture over there! So much so, that its become the subject of much ridicule / jokes here in the UK. I guess we're lucky in those respects here in the UK / Wales.

lawyers will sue for anything especially if there is insurance company involved. More than likely they will just settle out court. I've been sued twice. It sucks but its great when the judge laughs them out of court.

HI Kirk,
Wondering if there is a benefit on putting morr-flexx in the cracks, then adding fiberglass mesh and covering with stucco coating?? I've put morr-flexx in the cracks before, in the morning when the cracks is largest. A few days later once the house heats up, Arizona heat, the morr-flexx pushes out of the crack.
Appreciate any advise...love the instruction.
Good evening Mossis, this will work better as long as the build up over the mesh is applied properly so that is blends in well.

Kirk... I have some stair step cedar trim that I would like to cover with a non reflective stucco looking product so I don't have to paint it every few years. I put colored metal on it but everywhere you fasten it to the wood it reflects the light and it looks like crap. Every 1/16" screw indention just stands out in the right light and it looks like you used a framing hammer on it. Is it possible to just staple up some mesh product for the color coating to grip to and then just spread on say a color coat stucco product? THANK YOU! Denis
Good evening denis dude. All things are possible, my friend. 🤔
Color coats have no adhesive properties, and to add mesh wire, you would first have to skim let set then apply a color finish.
This system will be fragile in the area you are referring to.
If it were me, I'd buy a bag of Poly Bond, which is an adhesive cement stucco, and paint on the area in questions; with that, your screws will still show and if you are using a dolly to haul a refrigerator up the stairs it surly may take away some of that finish too.
But that's what I'd do or paint with an excellent primer less work, no mixing, and the sun won't glare of it.

do you ever use base x for cracks and mesh? thats what we use on cracks and if the house has lots of cracks we cover it completely in mesh and base x but that material is quiet expensive

I find this system using interior fiberglass for exterior stucco creates more problems than doing nothing.

Kirk..... I am looking for an alkaline resistant tight weave fiberglass mesh to glue small glass mosaic pieces (1/4" - 3/4") onto for an interior 7' x 15' mosaic mural. Most of what I see, the weave is way too big. What is the smallest weave made and where can I buy some? I am using Weldbond adhesive to glue pieces onto the mesh. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much.

It's a country that has some of the most intriguing beautifully designed and architectural wonders in the world but also an area that has been exploited because of it abundance of oil reserves.
I know a bit about your area as my wife worked in Saudi Arabia for a fews years as she is a brilliant Bio Chemist.
FYI, I don't level floors, although it's really easy, I just show stucco or plastering fixes.

Hi Kirk I have a 80 year old house and serious cracks on different parts of the house. I want to restucco and was told the best would be to get fiberglass wrap to cover all the cracks and make house look like new again. Do you agree?
Good evening Susan darling, I do indeed agree, this is what we also do.
However, if your house is going to move for 20 different reasons, it still may hairline, but this is the most preventive way to eliminate cracks.

Hi Kirk, Can I keep the CI-Base as my top coat? My original stucco turned out bad...lots of hairline cracks. Somebody told me to use the CI-Mesh and CI-Base over it and just keep it as the top coat if I like the look. what do you think?

Hey Kirk, i've watched alot of your vids. Dont know why, i just like to see how masonry works around the world. I've noticed that all you Yanks wear civilian (or just about) clothing on the job. Now, I saw your vids on thrift shop shirts, thats okay. But the jeans? I cant wrap my head around it. Where i'm at we use work wear jeans, with loads of pockets for all sorts of things and most importantly, flaps in the knees where we can insurt insulation for when we have to work on the floor. Your knees must just be calluses at this point..
Hi timmian85, too funny, I wear blue jeans as habit, when they become beat up or so called fashionable they get demoted to my work clothes.
I do have pants where they have embedded knee pads but don't wear them to often,
I have only worn knee pad a few times in my life, but my knees have never bothered me at all, It's my back thats beat up, too many years doing goofy stuff.

Morning The 3rd Coat, thats make two of us who don't understand how some folks can get away with this obvious fraud.
What happened was a avaricious home owner with no sense of pride hired a dishonest but clever and aggressive attorney who sued any and every one who ever set foot on that construction project, it was a bogas law suit against me, but like the majority of bogas law suits filed against someone, if the person being sued does not respond to this suit, they then get a judgement against that person, that person will now have to pay that judgement cost or prove otherwise.
It's not right however this does not mean that it does not happen everyday about 1,000 times per day.
The picture were taken to prove all applications were done according to and or above all constructions codes, sound unjust and bizarre?

in theory, could you get sued by your clients for making these videos on their property? Do you need to ask for their permission?
Excellent question third coat dude, as a rule my clients are great, and yes we ask, but as a rule, we don't give addresses or names and doubtful we can be sued as we show our work for explanation purposes and our transparent methods of plastering, thus contradicting any claims of bad practices, this is however the U.S. a sue happy nation.
Doubtful here in the U.S. anyone is immune to law suits weather justified or bogas.

Kirk could you have used a product like Morflex caulking to fill the crack and then put the coat of polybond on top of the caulking to achieve the same result?

Great Kirk. One follow up question, what if the wall is PAINTED and there is a crack and I am going to put a color coat on the entire wall. Could I follow the following procedure.
1) Apply mesh on the crack
2) Apply polybond ontop of the mesh
3) Apply diluted Weldcrete across the entire wall
4) Apply the color coat

Good Evening Global dude, if it's a painted wall, just caulk the crack, any quaility caulking will do, no mesh needed, apply bonding agent and plaster away.

I did not understand where it cost 10 or 15 thousand to defend yourself in court other then the filing fee.
Tell the Judge I was not the Contractor. There is no contract between you and the person suing you.
and there is a statue of limitations.

I felt the same way, my attorney made it clear, it would coat at least this much just to defend, and if I lost the case perhaps another 70,000.
I understand it's not always who right and wrong in fact law it appears has to do with little with righteousness which in the real world, I have these so called instilled characteristics, but proving this would be difficult for me as I would have to rely on someone to do the speaking of which I know little of the proper terminology let alone specific's of law.
My words are true, I'm stilled a bit pissed, I knew on a on a conscious and subconscious level, I was between a rock and a hard place.
therefor after a week thought, I said to hell with it pay out, and watched my premiums go up.
Think about this I'm paid after completion of my projects, lawyers are paid win or lose and once a case is over so is the cash flow, I didn't wish to roll the dice.
I'm not try to step and anyone toes as I have worked for many attorneys and have a few lawyers as pals, however..........

I have been threw this twice before, the insurance company did not tell you the truth about just paying 70 grand out. The insurance companies do not hand the money over that easy. try 5 grand actual paid out, not to contradict you, but I know insurance companies and there in-house lawyers.
