I love your series. You explain well what and why you do each step. As an older person just starting to paint Icons I find you to be a great teacher. Peace. Hearing what color combinations you use to get to a particular color is helpful.
Have a blessed Christmas, Antonis! And thank you for this video. Love, love, love your channel and your “studies.” You are an exceptional teacher! ❤️❤️❤️
Yes! More oil! I’m taking notes my friend. Thank you so much for this. I’m still hoping to see a watercolor experiment. Perhaps a watercolor experiment of Saint Catherine, or maybe Saint Erasmus of Ohrid? Maybe someday after more persuasion. Anyways this video answered a lot of questions I had after my first attempt with oil after watching your videos on oil. I’m confident I will be able to manage a lot better this next try. Thanks again.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful tutorial . Can you tell me what the color mixture is for the first lights? And after that is the mixture for second and third lights just adding more egg/water to the mixture for the first lights. I thought the first lights would be yellow ochre and a tiny bit of white but on my camera in looks like a flesh tone. Thank you. :)
Thank you! I mix Ochre, titanium white and a little red. Cadmium or any other I guess.... You know I don't have recipes. I add white and red for lighter tones.
This is a beautiful video with a beautiful painting!! I just have one question- What is the base light green tempera color for the faces at the beginning and how do you make it, or where can you purchase it?
Excellent tutorial and painting. When you say that you make a color 'transparent' do you do that by adding more egg medium to the pigment or more water? How to know when there is too much egg medium? As for the baby Jesus' "ugliness" in medieval paintings there is a theory that states that people back them believed in "homunculus" which is a microscopic but fully formed(mature) human from which a fetus will develop. So they might have seen baby Jesus as always being mature, not a baby needing diapers.
