Honestly, the only reason why I would get a masters would be so that I can be a professor. That’s it. In tech, if you wanna make money get certified. It’s quicker and way cheaper.

They don't even include the people who are doing the work in the hiring process most of the time. Learn to do the work and work on proving how well you can do the work. Look at the application, and ask yourself if you can do the job, and then apply. These companies don't know anything other than how much they're willing to pay for a solution.
I have no college degree but I do have a couple Vmware certifications in Microsoft certifications that I obtain from being self taught in my home lab. I cleared well over hundred thousand years ago.
I've a General Studies Associate and am working towards going the tech route. From what I've seen education is good, but experience is what's going to get you into the door
1) Don't take on more debt (makes perfect sense) 2) The time you take to do a masters, you can gain real experience (you get paid less but you can climb up the time it takes to finish the masters) 3) You can get the masters but don't mind working for less pay (which can be demoralising). 4) Companies are brutal and don't care.
I’m in a masters program for personal reasons and because I’m changing fields. My undergrad degree was in music and I’m in an infosec masters program. I’m liking it so far. But I’m not expecting the masters degree by itself to be some smoking gun when I go job hunting after I finish my degree, and so as long as you temper your expectations and have valid reasons for pursuing it, it can be worth while. But if I had a Bachelors in CS already I’d probably be making different moves rn
Nope, I disagreed. I am in STEM field in Computer Science with master degree. My company is pushing the engineers to Up skilled with AI and Data Science. 18 months programs do not teach advance Algorithms and Math. With that logical, Why not become a skilled Blue Collar worker.
Well, as someone who had a 40-year career not in computer science/IT/ or Tech. My B.S. degree was in Electrical Engineering. This field is more skills based almost like a skilled "blue collar" worker or a LVN/RN nurse, you get paid based on your knowledge and experience and, not on a piece of paper from a college or University. However, in science or engineering, I always suggest your Masters degree should be in something different but, only after you are employed in the different field. For example, if I was employed as an Environmental Scientist then, I might earn a M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering. This is because, I believe your master degree should help you advance within your company but, not to get hired (smile ... smile).
The assumption is getting a degree for work, Master and PhD is really for Academia / Research. Second assumption is getting into more debt, most the time if you get accepted into Master or PhD its subsidized by the university and other organizations. If you cant get sponsored, you shouldn't pursue graduate school. Undergraduate is really just filtering process. If your purpose is to make more money short term, then you should build experience first.

It’s a great place to start to 13 years ago corporate America already in various operational roles not related. I know some people who been on the helpdesk problems 20 years. I’m like no thank you and they may explain why they’re so crabby but to each their own.

That is not true! I disagree. In CS or IT in general, an undergraduate and a Master will have almost the same salary for most of companies. If a master’s degree holder is getting paid more, it will be not more than 10k per year. Overall, for someone coming from a non CS undergraduate, to get into CS as a software engineer, it is way way better for him/her to get a master degree than a bootcamp or self teaching route or certificate route. A master degree is only 1 to 2 years.
Get your masters after you've been in the field for a little bit. It will benefit you in the long run you'll make more than the people with certifications.

Overall, for someone coming from a non CS undergraduate, to get into CS as a software engineer, it is way way better for him/her to get a master degree than a bootcamp or self teaching route or certificate route. A master degree is only 1 to 2 years.
