When i celebrated christmas with my grandparents, we always sang that song along with a recording from a CD. Everyone struggled really hard to hit the high notes which made it sound kinda hilarious. But once my voice dropped and i had no chance to hit 4th octave notes without sounding terrible and straining my voice, i just decided to sing it 2 octaves lower from that point.
Sorry, it just isn't right for this carol. Sounds to me like a bunch of drunken blokes who've just come back from the bar and think they'll sing a carol or two.
