  • Insights from the Hermetic Tradition
Dr. Sally Jeanrenaud gives an introductory talk on Reuniting Science and Spirituality for the Wellbeing of People and Planet - insights from the Hermetic Tradition. Drawing on the myth of Persephone and Demeter she explores how the story is a powerful metaphor for understanding the challenges facing people and planet today; and the sorrows that arise when the consciousness loses its connection with spiritual realities. She emphasizes the role Hermes plays in leading Persephone (the Psyche or Soul) back to the Gods. In mythology Hermes is the messenger of the Gods, but later reappears as the ancient sage of Hermes Trismigestus, founder of Hermetic wisdom and science, whose teachings had a profound influence on the origins of the western scientific tradition. Hermetic science differentiated between the Above and the Below, or non-material and material realms, and sought to understand their analogies and correspondences. The key message is that we need to consciously reunite these spheres for wholeness and health today.
Recorded on 21st November 2019. An Evening with Rupert Sheldrake on Science and Spirituality: Reuniting science and spirituality for the wellbeing of people and planet hosted by the Fintry Trust with the Arnos Vale Trust at Arnos Vale Anglican Chapel, Bristol.
