My favourite Slick Rick songs.... ● Mona Lisa, ● Children's Story, ● Hey Young World, ● Street Talking (ft. Outkast), ● The Show (x Doug E Fresh), ● Memories, ● Sitting In My Car...
That feature verse he had last year on DJ Premier's EP made me realize Slick Rick hasn't lost a step. Went toe to toe with Wayne and rode that Preemo beat effortlessly. Hip hop royalty 👑
His storytelling is incredible, and he still has some great verses these years, like songs with Westside Gunn, and the song with DJ Muggs, really hope he drops another album!
I cannot stop looking at this video thank you for showing love for Slick Rick Man without this album his first album like I'm crying with tears in my eyes show it changed my world yo it's because of this album I am a music producer hey young world Mona Lisa now I'm going to tell you story about Mona Lisa my mom told me when I was a baby the only way to stop me for crying is that song it's still touch me today
Mann. The adventures of Slick Rick and the Art of Storytelling really had some songs that change my Life when it came to rap. Forever a Slick Rick fan ✊🏽✊🏽☺️
Storytelling was my introduction to Patch Eye... all you have to do is push play. Captures you with the footsteps and doesn't let you go tell the end. Fantastic Album. 🤘
I owe a lot to Slick Rick. Back when i was still listening to Nelly and Diddy, he was one of the artists along with Public Enemy and Run DMC that eased me into old school rap. Mind you, i was a ten year old kid in Germany. So i didn't really know what he said or what the contents of his lyrics were. There was something about his music that really captivated me. I don't know if it was his flow, the lighthearted nature of his sound or the british swag of his voice. But there was something special. Plus we gotta commend him for bringing style into Hip Hop. He looked mad fly with the kangols, the eye patches, the heavy jewelry combined with the types of clothes he wore. That shit looked way too cool on him.
I've always had appreciation for Slick Rick and his impact to the genre but never really paid much attention to his catalog besides some of his more iconic stuff, now after watching your video I'll probably try to improve that. His video for "Behind bars" song completely blew my mind when I saw it for the first time a couple of years ago, it is probably one of the best music videos that I have ever seen.
May I recommend the intro as a short. In other words..I'm still listening now. Man said Stephen King type storytelling. Thanks for giving Rick the Ruler is flowers. Living legend indeed. 💪🏿 Salute to Dougie Fresh too..they laid a foundation, and honestly..I don't think anyone has tried the beat box-free flow rap together like these two.
If you like storytelling raps you need to check out DOUBLE REDS by DYNAMITE MC, amazing track that is clearly inspired by Slick Rick's Children's Story
BIZ MARKIE is the originator of LA-Di-DA-Di; he wrote & performed in in a local show. Those Katz, Doug E. Fresh & the Get Fresh Crew, Slick Rick, Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane, and all of them hung out and shared influences. BIZ MARKIE is the ORIGINAL & Best BEAT BOXER; Carefully listen to the break -lyrics and beat box is All Biz Markie- Listen to Make the music with your Mouth BIZ" break. DO NOT FORGET Those LEGENDARY KATZ who past
I find myself conflicted when considering Rick in hip-hop history. The impact of his early work with Doug E. Fresh and his debut album, along with his fashion choices, are undeniable. But, compared to many other artists from the 80s and 90s, he just does not have the discography to measure up to them, and when all is said and done, I feel like the body of music you put together is what people will remember you for.
You can still be iconic without being the best at something. Steph curry can only play offense, but is still considered as one of the best ever and even though playing next to Jordan, lebron, bird, and magic, he’d jut be the pg
He definitely does not have one of the greatest careers but he his impact with that single album is undeniable so its enough to rank him top 15-20 for me
People remember you for your hits and influence, not having 20 albums. Snoop has 17 albums, but the average person could name only a few and even less hits by name. Slick Rick has to be one of the most sampled artists in rap
The guy beneath your comment about being impactful but not being one of the best really misses the point you were making in my opinion. I think he's the best or one of them. I think what you said is true about his body of work and his early career especially. I think though, that his delivery which is part of his genius is also why people overlook him. If you listen to Rakim, KRS, Kool.G and Nas they sound so serious and adult but Slick Rick was like a new school (innovative concepts, rhymes and flow) old school rapper (delivery and mood) for the times he's best known for. Hip Hop went in the direction of the other people I've just mentioned and it was like it wasn't cool or in fashion to have this much fun or to not take yourself too serious. Slick Rick did change and still had good moments and some good songs but left some of the great things behind when he updated his delivery. He doesn't do the different characters as much and is not as creative. The Greatest Adventures though is like one of the best albums ever and is a pioneering bedrock of hip hop. Then as time goes on people don't give him the credit for his contributions. It's like when people talk about Kanye using speeded up samples and completely ignoring RZA and other earlier producers.
I don’t think anyone ever had a comeback like Rick did with The Art of Storytelling. That album is magnificent
You're not kidding man. Almost every song in that album is incredible

The Moment I Feared & Lick The Balls are two of his best songs ever. Such creativity in that man, we were blessed as Hip Hop fans to hear his genius.

Love that reconstruction/modern take on the Two Dope Boyz instrumental from the intro

I really think you should make a biz markie video, or even latyrx. I love your channel, just discovered it. Keep up the good work
La-di-da-di is a masterclass in hip-hop storytelling.
Storytelling was my introduction to Patch Eye... all you have to do is push play. Captures you with the footsteps and doesn't let you go tell the end. Fantastic Album. 🤘
I listened to the great adventures of slick Rick for like 2 years straight. Nothing else

Slick Rick is my number one artist of all time all the way to 1998 and Mona Lisa is my favorite record of all time

No one is more sampled than James Brown.
Not even Curtis Mayfield.
How do we get a slick rick biopic going?
Who should play him?
@@DefGoldbloom I don't know I'm not big into the acting scene, but I know there's a young man out there that would be perfect somewhere
💨💨💨💨💨
Top one has to be Behind Bars with Warren G. Not from the album but his single.
🤘🏿👑
