Yep lol. They changed it right after to Dragon Rage at 16 for DPP-XY and 12 for SWSH+ (wild decision btw) except Lets Go because Dragon Rage at 16 would make that game too easy 😂😂😂
Seeing as he is going through every gen, i am excited for him to get to unova and use eelektross, mienshao and hydreigon, since those are not very easy to obtain
Butterfree with compound eyes sleep powder is genuinely an E4 choice, it’s seen good usage in GEN 3 OU as an alternative to breloom/smeargle spore user given its ground immunity avoiding spikes and quake. Edit: forgot that it *does* get access to dream eater from the tutor as soon as you unlock cut, so even better!
@ it’s a shame it can’t learn dream eater or any set up moves, it can be useful with rain dance/sunny day set ups and double team shenanigans after putting things to sleep though, silver wind has the potential to do something rarely
loving this little theory crafting series!! Im still new to nuzlocking myself and this is really helping me to actually think further down the road instead of what im currently doing!
He could speed this up massively by saving before each boss fight and using different variations of the mons he has in this run to evaluate each of them properly within 1 run. Bit of save scumming and replaying would make this much more efficient, especially since he wants to go all the way to gen 6 I think?
I think there is a legitimate case for charizard to be the worst encounter in Frlg because a charmander starter mankeyless Brock (which happens roughly 20% of the time) is the hardest fight in the game up to and maybe even including the elite 4. It also makes the champion harder because he doesn't have gyarados, which can be beaten by almost any electric type, and it slightly hurts your chances against misty.
20:10 Not that this should be part of his tier list. But this is why when I nuzlocke vanilla games I match the amount of team members I bring to the gym leader so like for surge I would only bring 3 pokemon. Actually makes you have to think a little otherwise it almost doesn’t matter what pokemon you bring because you have so much Hp to just keep swapping around.
Gyarados? The Pokemon 4x weak to electric type moves? In which the Kanto region has plenty of electric type Pokemon to choose from? This isn't Gen IV or later. Gyarados is a cake walk to prepare for in Gen III compared to the more bulky Blastoise with a better special attack stat.
I feel like you’re underrating charmander because of cerulean order, if you do nugget bridge and get grass type access first it’s a free misty fight which makes charmander better
That's just "if you have other mons beat the first three gyms you can beat Erika", which is the easiest gym in the game and the part where the game opens up anyway so the starters are all far less important at that point.
@@jacksmith3148 I'm not denying that charmander easily has the worst early game out of the 3 starters but it is the fastest and has the best offensive combination out of them once evolved. It's really only bulbasaur runs that can solo the first 3 gyms with just your starter.
the butterfree slander is crazy cause you can teach dream eater once you get cut from the first town, the lad 1v1s team rocket AND koga with good sleep luck
i dont think ive ever seen any nuzlocker double back to grab it, idk what else would benefit from dream eater in the first place apart from maybe egg line
butterfree used to be a Brock's counter in Charmander runs back in RBY because brock did not had any rock type move and having access to psychic special moves was really good against its whole team (they were the only access to non-resisted special move before brock)
I recently randomly got the kangaskhan encounter in safari zone, I was pretty impressed. Good bulk, power and learnset, it’s special does suck so deleting bite doesn’t matter
I mean not really. You can get a Mankey to easily handle Brock and an Oddish/Bellsprout past Nugget Bridge to handle Misty. After that, it's pretty much fair game for a Charizard outside of a few key battles.
Absolutely right that fire types are basically useless. I’m of the firm belief that Bulba is the best starter for these types of challenges. He solos the first 2 gyms and it forces Blue to take Charizard. With access to so many strong water types you don’t need Squirtle and Bulba can easily be switched out later so his late game being trash doesn’t matter.
Monkey is your only real chance outside of metal claw on brock. After Pikachu is your misty carry. The rest is cut and dry. Just expect chard to be on the bench in Kanto 75% of the time. Cool af Mon, however, impractical in his home region.
I cant wait for the mr mime and starmie test cause holy shit i use doops for starmie every leafgreen run and its insane i immediately prioritize the casino tms for bolt beam and get surf psychic asap mr mime gets encore trade exp and i believe it also gets tbolt
Woooohoooo charizard time... but sadly, yeah, fire red early game charmander was rough as my first nuzlocke ever...💀 Edit: for brock grab mankey at route 22 or 23, can't remember, should be pretty likely with dupe clause with rattata and pidgey. If not, butterfree can boost its defence at geodude since it has no rock type moves and spam confusion to faint onyx, if he doesn't crit rock tomb you should be good and this method doesn't risk the starter Misty you can guarantee an oddish at route 5 and 6 (route 5 and 6 both have pidgey, meowth and oddish), gloom should do the job Lt Surge you just go rock tunnel for ditto Erika you have charmaleon or arcanine as a backup that you can get in the way, the vileplume is very tanky Advice for the snorlax, beat one, go to fuchsia city and get ultras to catch the other, lost my nidoking trying to catch snorlax with superballs. Currently at koga/sabrina, with a snorlax on the bag and enough money for ghost ball. Any recommendations, advise or corrections of things I got wrong are welcome!
Sounds like Hades soundtrack to me. While I can't tell you exactly which song it is, I can highly recommend you listen to the entire album, if you liked that one song you'll love the entire thing :)
charmander sucks for no overleveling nuzlockes in fire red since he doesn't get metal claw until i think level 14, which ironically was put in there specifically bc charmander was the only kanto starter that in rby couldn't solo brock by level 14. but charmander still sucks bc even with metal claw for brock he's the only one hard countered by misty and only has an advantage against erika, which you have plenty of options by then to hard counter her.
Without doing the calcs, it's probably pretty close. Plus Ember has a chance to burn. But it's safer to just catch a Mankey and sweep with it anyways to avoid a Rock Tomb crit from Onix.
My little brother and I played through the games together when we were younger, I got to the elite 4 first with charizard, he had venasaur, I got walled cause I had no good grass types and had to go farm for a bellsprout and barely beat the elite 4 days after he did 😭 Charizard IS ass
charmander is genuinely hellish into brock LOL, you NEED mankey &/or at least one sac, & even then its far from foolproof. i have no idea why they gave char metal claw when it does basically the same dmg into onix as *ember* also nah fire types are genuinely useful after brock/misty. theyre rare & zard is the best in regards to its spatk to speed ratio outside of arcanine & moltres, latter of which is both very late & very out of the way. you get flamethrower tm for a free erika as well as koffing/weezing (i.e. cycling road & koga), among plenty of other mons on a generic basis fly + flamethrower + brick break for example is both super easy to come by (yet afaik coverage exclusive to zard), & fairly strong into a lot of mons. brick break def falls off later but you frankly dont need many moves on zard to simply nuke teams. knowing the ai its surely gambling, but it also gets tm focus punch fairly early fire blast & overheat are super powerful tms available in lategame even with the miss chance, so having one *in addition* to flamethrower is quite good. not only does zard not need moves beyond stab for its dmg to excel, but flamethrower & fly are both renewable so past the roadblocks of brock/misty, its moveset is highly customizable, highly efficient, yet low commitment
Yes thank you. Charizard, and fire types in general, are not terrible in the Kanto region. There are other options to handle Brock and Misty, and outside of a few battles, Charizard can hold its own exceptionally well. It can also learn Dragon Claw, Rock Slide, Earthquake, and Swords Dance so it can be pretty dangerous.
Might have been neat to test pre-damaged Charmeleon for Blaze? Sounds like a strat that a baby nuzlocker might come up with (and promptly die because Charmeleon's only got EMBER at this point)

I remember it gets it in PMD blue/red but I guess those share the FRLG learnsets
Probably, even though Metal Claw still won't do much to a physically defensive Onix without a couple of attack boosts.
The funniest thing is that ember still does about the same amount of damage as Onix’s special defense is that much lower and STAB

Lmao Victreebell absolutely disrespected Charmeleon there
One of the few benefits of picking Charizard in the vanilla games is that it gives the rival Blastoise and not Gyarados
