And this is why I bought my GasGas, because this is what was always my favorite color in dirtbikes, besides all that I was taught about GasGas Dirtbikes. Amazing Dirtbike!
I also did have that muffler attachment on my bike at (5:13). But unfortunally due the vibration of the motor, i lost it when i was dirtbiking. When i purchased my CR500, it also did have the orginal sprockets and chain. I also never power washed my bike. Always with a normal garden hose and a soft brush to clean the bike. I even made thw whole bike dry with cotton cloth after cleaning. In my oponion the most beautifull and raw CR500 ever produced.
@@stephenloflin4772 its happened before and will happen again , but you can bet Kaplan will be there with trailer doors open to scoop them all up and take them away ! bahaha

Those 1989 CR500’s have a reputation of being the most powerful/radical of the series, I always heard after 89, they smoothed out the power which resulted in significantly less hp. I grew up a die-hard Yz rider, but always loved the big bore CRs. If you saw one at the track or local riding spot, it was like seeing a Bugatti and was the topic of conversation for days.
They don't come any more pristine than that red rocket. You're a lucky man Kaplan America, you're stock value must be in the millions. Next major dirt bike Hollywood blockbuster will feature New England's finest nostalgic beauty's. God bless.

That is the best color scheme Honda had,Red on red.... next fave is the blue seat and gold rim era. As a teen of the 80s I remember when every one of these were new and couldn't afford one lol. An uncle owned a honda/yam shop and I'd go day dream. Every cr, xr,and yz, atc250r, 200 and 350x, tri z, honda odesseys, etc etc.
Sweeeet! It looks new. My first Cr-500 was the 1989 model NIB! I remember seeing the front number plate once while riding.....almost flipped it! You have something there!
It's gorgeous!. I had an 89 250. My favorite looking out of all the CR gens. Got the 250 bc the 500 just had too much bark (for me) in the woods (which is where I did most of my riding), but I did tame the 250 pretty quickly. Always wished they'd made a CR300 or 350...Would have been perfect!. I know, there was no way, but one could dream 🙃 Edit: or get a KTM (at the time) 😐
I can’t keep up with your sales talk. First you say the guy rode it once, flipped it over, and put it away for thirty years. Second, you had to re-paint the frame where the boots RUBBED OFF THE PAINT. It takes quite a few hours to rub the paint off the frame with motocross boots on. And that’s with an experienced rider gripping the frame with his legs. The bike is amazing ! Your museum is amazing ! I love all you guys ! But just be an honest salesman Ken. It’s not like you have competition selling 1989 CR’s, LOL. God bless you all !
The video of the before touch up is on our channel, minimal wear...bike probably had 2 hours ride time total from original owner. Its all true he flipped it over and quit riding it

Mr. Kaplan, now that i think of it - who would know better than you : is there a place in the world i can still buy an original muffler and pipe (expansion chamber) for the late CR500R models ...??? i loved the original pipe much better than all the after markets we can still get today.

Just wondering, bunch of dumb questions to fill up comments, did it go for 6000 in 89? Inflation brings that to about 13, If you guys could get it with the water pump, side case, bent fender, frame scratches, tires n tubes, fluids, as bargaining leverage, guessing you could get it for 8500, paid your guys 2000 bucks for labor, paid part of rent utilities 500, parts 700, what's it have to go for to break even/ keep the lights on, what are collectors paying 20 grand? whats the tax end up being up there? do you do title work even if jersey does not do titles on dirtbikes? How did the frame have boot scuffs to the point it need paint of never rode? Even if it was rode a few times. Beautiful bike though
the original owner only rode it a couple hours. Long enough to scratch the frame rails. 1 5 lap ride around the sandpit will do that
