    “Goodyear: On the March” (c.1958) is a color, promotional and recruitment film for the Goodyear company meant to tell the “Goodyear Story” of craft, ingenuity, integrity, and a team of committed personnel all over the world.
    Film opens, footage flags waving from flag poles: United States, Philippines, Mexico, Russia, Malaysia, Brazil, France, United Kingdom, South Africa (1928-1994), Sweden (0:07). Opening words, Edwin J. Thomas (1:15-4:50). Re-enactment, Charles Goodyear discovering Balkanization (5:19). Re-enactment Frank Seiberling purchasing first factory (6:37). Early automobile models: perhaps Benz Patent Motor Car, model no. 1, perhaps Ford Model N; early use of Goodyear tires (7:00). Rolling credits listing Goodyear “firsts” in respect to tire production overlaid montage b&w archival footage of early 20th century automobiles (commercial and private) driving along highways, rural areas, New York City (Sheraton-Astor Hotel) (7:58). Manufacturing process: raw materials move along conveyor belt, sheets of freshly formed rubber roll out of machines, factory employees look over machines/ ensure quality control (8:57). Goodyear Nylon White-Side Wall Tire in the making: Fabric comes out of 3T machine, moves through Z-calendar and intertwined with rubber, bias cutting machine slices it into double strips, stages of assembly line (shaping machine) (10:15-14:38). Use of Goodyear Products: Perhaps 1950 Chevrolet Short School Bus drives through suburban neighborhood (14:40). 1957 FWD MM1 Teracruzer, close-up tires adapting to uneven terrain (14:46).     I was 5 years old in 1958. My Grandfather worked at Goodyear Akron. I remember Soapbox Derby and Derby Downs and the large Blimp Hanger as a kid. Goodyear was one of the first multinational corporations. My mother was proud of her father worked at Goodyear.

    46:38 Wolverhampton is not there. That is Deeside on the Welsh English border. go 60 miles south just north of Birmingham where Fort Dunlop is. Founded by pneumatic tyre pioneer John Boyd Dunlop in Belfast, Ireland, in 1888.

      One part he played was 14 episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies, he was the man from the oil company that bought the land and oil rights from Jed Clampett. The characters name was Brewster and the actor is Frank Wilcox.
