Hi Mike, very nice trailer, great work. I agree with you, I love the Patriot Trailer but could never afford one. I built my own off an M 416 trailer that I bought for $350. Your trailer is over the top compared to mine, I kept mine very simple, trailer, rack, Smiitybilt roof top tent and a rockpals 250 watt battery pack. Canned food, Coleman butane stove and coolers for drinks covers it. Total price, $2200.
That's exactly the point I was making ! You hit the nail on the head. You don't have to spend a gazillion dollars to get into overlanding even though it easy to do so. It's not about spending money, it's about getting out and enjoying nature and family for me.
Hello Mike! I really enjoyed your video. I to can’t spend the money on the fancy trailer systems. Your trailer is definitely what I have visioned trying to build myself. I did pick up a trailer that I am retrofitting and modifying to suit my needs like you. I look forward to more content. Keep up the good work! Your a average Joe like me. Keeping it real!
Awesome trailer Mike. I'm on your level with the low doe trailer build. Yours is outstanding. Can't wait to see your buddy's get built. I'm out in El Reno, and was wondering about the Oklahoma Overland sticker. Didn't know there was a group here. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the compliment. There's actually a couple FB groups for overlanding in Okla. But to be 100% honest I just designed and made that sticker for my buddy's trailer and for my trailer. If you would like to get one just go to my FB page and message me through there and i'll fix you up. fb.com/jeepstickers
That looks like a excellent trailer build. I agree with you that the costs of the overland trailers is ridiculous. I'm sure that they are very well built. I noticed that you didn't have any weather sealing on the doors. Have you had any water and dust getting inside the compartments?
WhatNot Zone believe it or not with rain I’ve not had any problems. When we did the 60 mile trek down the beach in Padre back in December I got a little bit of sand in there but nothing to write home about.
Perfect trailer setup. I’m almost done with my drawings . Should be ordering steel here soon. When I get it done I just might have to see about getting some graphics done. Since I’m just up 44 in Tulsa. Keep up the videos. Definitely agree with the price of some of these trailers that can be bought. My trailer is 48”x 84” box wheels and tires will be outside of box. 120” tip to tip. The hitch is 2.5x2.5x.250 but full length. For a bike carrier and what nots . Hope to see ya around somewhere .
Thanks for the reply Kyle. Start up a channel now and document the build. I'm supposed to be starting another build soon for my buddy and it'll be very similar to mine but we are going to document it all as we go. Should be fun.
Nice build! Are you worried or have you experienced any galvanic reactions with the mixture of aluminum and steel? Lose the douche flute.. Love the build.
Steph, I've been in the sign business for more than 20 years. It's pretty much standard practice to make a steel frame with aluminum skin. It very well could be wrong, but I just went with what I know. That particular trailer has sold, and I'm planning the next build. Yeah, I know the douche pipe is lame, but it did help me quit smoking. Thanks for the compliment !
Love your trailer and am looking at starting mine soon. I’ve been searching for steel frame trailers for some time now. Been wondering why I can’t find an overland version of a tear drop done like this. I’m wondering if you considered putting the skin outside of the frame to make it more dust/waterproof? Also, can you give the name of your skin supplier, I didn’t know there was one here locally (fellow Okie - Edmond)
David, Thank you for the compliment. I just put the skin on the inside of the skeleton cause I though it looked cool. It keeps it way more weatherproof than you would think. I got the majority of my steel for the frame at the railyard south of Stillwater. Just happened to be driving by there in my work truck one day. The skin I buy at my local sign supply warehouse, it's called GSG (Graphic Solutions Group) on South Eastern, just north of 240. I've sold that trailer in that video. I bought an RV to pull behind the new Gladiator, and I'm gonna be building a new teardrop overland come springtime.
Thanks Mike, I’ll check that place out for mine. Do you have any plans for your tear drop yet? I hope you’ll post that build too, you’ve made me consider documenting mine. I’ve been looking at the Gladiators too, how do you like it?
@@davidhines4716 I like the Gladiator a lot. You can tell a huge difference going from a 2 door JK to a 4 door JT when turning into home depot parking spot. But overall, it's great. No concrete plans yet for the teardrop, just an idea.
Watching this video in 2021 while my Country is being burned to the ground by fools to also keep my mind of some of the worst things that has happened to SA since the 80's.... 2019 is gonna be a huge thing for video.. with 2020 and 2021 that has not shown a peep how the world is gonna change... Made my day..
Byron, thank you for the compliment. I haven't honestly thought about making them to sell. I was mostly offering my ideas for people to help them with ideas on building their own. Doing the work yourself is what will save you the most money.
mike novotny Well yours turned out great. I know they take time to build so you would have a great income when it comes time for you to retire. I know a lot of people would like to buy one of these but the prices are outrageous. Keep me in mind if you do find the time to make another one. Have a Merry Christmas.
Started wochin this video an thinking this guys rambling on an on, then I thort shit he's the same as me when it comes to dollars an making stuff yaself like I have done as well. Your right when ya say 40.000$ sitting around for 80/85% of the year getting dusty sounds stupid and ya probably got it on the hook (repay). Great video.🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thank you for the compliment. If I thought there was a market for a budget trailer I would consider it. But adding in the cost of labor is probably what makes the price on some of the other "name brand" trailers cost so much.
It`s easy said: Czech Craftsmen can build a whole House with stuff they find beside the street! Due to glory communism, they are able to make gold out of shit! lol... Greetings from wels, Upper-Austria !
You and me both brother. These trailers are RIDICULOUSLY overpriced. The only reason they can sell them for that much is because yuptards are willing to pay the price.
One of the nicest overland trailers I've seen so far!
OKC in the house! Good to see a fellow okie taking the DIY route. Maybe I’ll see ya out there.
South East Oklahoma here!!
Kevin you are AWESOME.

This is great!! I have a friend and we do this to each other all the time! I’m pretty sure we are outfitting her Jeep soon!
Love the Flag and video
Nice build brother. I’m out a Cushing, ok. Just started Tried n True off-road customs. Building these and the actual sleep in campers.
Thank you ! Good to see another Oklahoman building them too.

Thank you for the info and putting out this video. Im looking around and thinking about building one for myself. take care.

I can email you the diagram of the frame and the info if you like. The frame is all 2"x2"x1/4" square tube. just need your email address.
