KOT is a cool circuit, the DFX is also cool, some differences. I'd call it a variation, kinda like JHS makes their variations on classic pedals. I've had both, sold the KOT and bought a Greer Lightspeed and 4 other pedals. The Greer is the KOT's equal and just suits me better. Kept the DFx for my expendable board, ya know, in case some dive bar drunk spills a pitcher on it. Don't miss the KOT much...
@@su-highs The Orig is nice and if I was a touring/Pro musician I might have justified keeping it. The Greer LS is friggin great for me. Works on my Marshall, my Vox and all my fender amps. I've take the KOT clones off my board and replaced them with Greer LS clones, lol.
It was almost the same. But. the real one has more range and depth. The fake one has a narrower range and the sound feels closer. The real one was richer and the fake one was more modern. Almost the same, though.
I felt that way. However, there may be many people who prefer fake products if they hide the price. Both had good points. Most of the characters are the same.
Was is intentional at around the 3:00 minute mark to compare at different pot levels? The sounds overall are so similar that only geeks like us would notice the difference in tones. Live applications would render the available tones to be basically identical. Plus, with natural reverb being different in every space, there's no telling how the frequencies will respond until you're on that stage with a cranked amplifier. The Chinese pedal sounds good to me and worth the purchase, but a we all know the Chinese electronics just don't hold up and this pedal will eventually fail at the wrong moment.
All western pedals are also made from Chinese components. So the assumption that Chinese pedals somehow break down sooner is a pure misconception. What used to be a fact 20 years ago no longer holds. I myself am a designer at a pro audio company and can only tell you that without Chinese components, the western electronics industry would quickly come to a halt because the West no longer has a capability to manufacture components and do PCB assembly at competitive prices and the output volume needed.
Yes, I did. I tried to make them sound as similar as possible. We certainly haven't tested the durability.... It might break soon. But you can buy three of them and still get change.
Love my DemonFX King Of Drive, it sounds great and best of all I only had to wait a few days for it to be delivered!! Id love someone to test two KOT pedals, I would be willing to bet that the results would be identical and that they would not sound identical at the same settings, no two same model pedals ever do.
The 2 trimpots adjust the treble frequency range. And then there are also the DIP switches. So it's extremely difficult to get even 2 pedals from the same manufacturer to sound identical. And don't forget that your guitar controls play an equally important role in sculpting the tone.
@@su-highs diode are more important , the resistence on the leds the colour if the led ( leds are diode so they have influence ) probably differences in the circuit , you should trace a schematics of both and after compare them side by side , if your kot is a older version should have the ma856 small diodes now are impossible to find them , if your kot is more recent it should be easier to make the demonclone a real copy

Not as simple as you think. There is nothing like "expensive electronics" inside the KOT that the KOD lacks. In fact, both are built from Chinese components that are inevitable in ALL western electronics designs. There are pot (20%) and capacitor (5%) tolerances, so one may have to adjust the 2 pedals differently for a comparable sound. There are also complaints that the newest KOT pedals don't sound like the old ones. The clip diodes that determine the overdrive color may have a slightly different characteristic. This is from a designer in a pro audio company and a recodring engineer and guitarist.
Thanks for making this!
Same here!
Thanks for looking!
Plot twist: if you compared two originals they would sound different. The differences are due to cumulative effect of component tolerances.
Maybe so.
Thanks for your valuable input.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!
Gracias por hacer esta comparación. Saludos desde México.
Tone control pot taper is different, other than that, they sound pretty much identical.
Plus he fiddled with the treble trimpots, to make the comparison even more difficult.
I'm very happy with your comments as we were trying to get the exact same sound.

That's a cool way to use it.
It's really funny how you don't regret giving the original away.

Hi how about this demonfx KOF and demonfx sss comparison?
Thanks for the great project proposal!
I'll give it a try the next time we get together!
If I ever clone one of these, I'll call it "King of Moan"! Cool? 😂

if this degree of similarity...better buy a DFX KOD

King of Drive for me is better, more output and nice tone, and the best PRICELESS hahahaha
