    X-Plane has been slow to innovate for years. I'm so glad MSFS 2020 came out. It lights a fire under Austin's behind to pick up the pace and improve their product. X-Plane still has the physics and I still enjoy flying it, but I'm not a pilot irl. I need visuals that please me and X-Plane is bland unless you buy 100's in add-ons

      Even with 100s of visual addons it doesn't come close to MSFS, and for airliners it not on the same lvel as P3D, really hope xplane 12 gives it a new lease of life.

    When I hear news about a new graphics engine: "the new graphics engine (100FPS) will have improved visuals (50FPS), a new lighting engine (40FPS) with light scattering (30FPS), with real-world physics (20FPS) with light refraction (10FPS)". I hope they can keep things going at 60FPS or more.

      IMHO, LR needs to take a more proactive approach to policing defective payware addons, with certain notable *_repeat_* offenders in mind (I won't mention any names, but one begins with 'Car" and ends in "enado"). For like me, this is mainly what drives XP enthusiasts to other platforms -- simulators, in general, become pretty boring pretty quickly without _quality/reliable_ 3rd party addons.

    I have been testing X-plane since version 6.50, my first MFS was 98, and I still think that X-plane is still much superior in flight dynamics even now, for me the important thing is to simulate the flight, landscapes and visual aspects are secondary to me, although everything can be improved

    I just wish that both MS and Laminar would pay a lot more attention to the currently atrocious "ATC" in both sims. Apart from ridiculous approach routing or getting vectored into terrain and the inability to air-file/modify a flightplan (such as requesting an alternate due to weather, altitude change to avoid icing, or even getting an altimeter setting), the lack a "seamless" way to interact with ATC--which is an integral part of real-world flying--is simply not immersive. It would also be great if they could incorporate voice recognition, so the "text format" ATC interaction could be eliminated. Couple that with solid VR, and you're getting as close to a full-motion sim as you can get with a PC. Way too much focus on eye-candy (although it's got to look believable) at the expense of functionality (that goes for both sim families).

      With one little problem: Not for really old-school VFR navigation. When I look up reference points on my maps, I can be pretty sure I've got just about no reference of that whatsoever in X-Plane. One of the visual reference points in my home airport's traffic pattern is a large silo, and while that's not built in MSFS either, I it least can see the satellite image of it, thus have my reference.
      I pretty much use MSFS to practice in certain terrain, VFR navigation and as you said, plain sightseeing, X-Plane to practice specific qualities and functions of a certain aeroplane itself

    • @ksp1278
      @ksp1278 2 года назад

      @@guitarheaven1747 That's very true. But you can go some way towards helping x plane by buying or making satellite imagery for the areas you want to fly. Whilst that's not as convenient as just having the whole planet ready to stream, I think it's ok.

    • @derekec
      @derekec 2 года назад

      Thousands of real world pilots have used MSFS to supplement their training as in procedures, instrument scanning and instrument navigation. My forays into X Plane 9,10 and 11 have been disappointing given all the marketing hype for realism. To say MSFS is for sightseeing vs XPlane reveals some ignorant arrogance. They both have strengths and weaknesses but at least MSFS doesn't pretend to do things it really does not do. For GPS functionality I will go with XPlane currently. I would never trust it or even think to use it to emulate real flight dynamics or performance. To pre-fly a route....MSFS though I could just as well and do use Google Earth. Personally, I'm waiting for XP12 if only for not wanting to invest in a new PC to run FS2020.

    i wished i had this great capability of speaking and explaining things so nicely and positively as this guy here. didn't expect this from an engineerial scoped person as he describes himself, obviously having proven and balanced multiskills across brain halfs. congrats man and thank you! will subsribe with a hope for you guiding us through the next steps of evolving news across sim platforms and products. from a marketing aspect i give this channel a chance to raise quickly to top, if the right measures are taken and the motivation exists to do so. That would include a refinement of brand (shortening to "flyby" would do it), extension and type of content (transition from a "me" point of view to an overall news type of coverage across platforms, which does not yet exist really) and close up reports into single topics with background explanations, interviews, making ofs, tests, etc). Let's see whether we can turn an engineer into a news reporter with engineerial background and a passion for flight simulation techniques, lol. final point would be giving the audience at least one weekly show and promote the channel accordingly. just some thoughts.

    What you did not mention but what I consider a big plus of X-Plane over the Microsoft series of flightsims is that it is way easier for us cockpit builders to connect to the sim. In X-Plane there is a standardized way using commands and datarefs that makes it possible to control every plane (with a little detective work) while in MS you have to hope and beg that there is some way of connecting to an aircraft system.

    XPlane 11/12 strengths will not be appreciated by most casual flight simmers. MSFS 2020 is a truly next generation simulator and will change gaming altogether. The AI and generation of realistic scenery for the entire world is absolutely incredible. MSFS will bring the masses to flight simming which is great for the flight sim and aviation community as a whole.
    I really enjoy MSFS 2020 and when I want to do a VFR flight anywhere in the world, MSFS is really enjoyable. But as a real world pilot, you can’t beat XPlanes flight modeling and realistic feel you get from the aircraft. Instrument flying is simply much better on XPlane. The mind blowing visuals of MSFS don’t matter much in the soup.
    I own both and fly both sims regularly. But prior to last year, I was XPlane all the way. One last note, if you plan on flying in VR XPlanes implementation is better and more mature at this point. But MSFS in VR with a capable computer is incredible.

    • @ksp1278
      @ksp1278 2 года назад +4

      I think it's fairly easy to tell that right now MSFS is more of a game than it is a simulation. X-plane just feels better. I only started flight-simming a bit over a year ago, and was quite disappointed with MSFS. I had, used xplane 11 for maybe a year before I bought MSFS a few months ago. xplane is the simulator that I keep going back to. MSFS is great for the landing challenges and discovery flights though. Also MSFS has no support for multiple monitors, which is a deal-breaker for me. I'm currently building an 8-screen cockpit (5 are visuals). X-Plane is the only choice that makes sense for an immersive cockpit experience (not counting P3D and FSX).

    • @briank3754
      @briank3754 2 года назад +1

      @@ksp1278Wow, I was not aware that MSFS did not natively support multiple monitors. You could try Nvidia surround, but I don’t how well that would work. I typically fly in VR and have a single 43 inch 4K for instrument flying. Instrument flying in VR is a pain.
      I can only speak for the Cessna 172 and Piper Seneca, but compared to the real thing there is no competition in realism. XPlane for the win. MSFS is fun and you stated, Microsoft is going more for the video game feel and pushing it to XBOX. This is fine by me as I enjoy the visuals in VR, but XPlane will remain my sim of choice going forward.
      Hope your home cockpit setup goes well. I would like to set up a killer system at home, but I have to save some money for real flying when I get the chance.

Like the video you linked, it looks fine in the centre, but past the half-way point of the side-screens the distortion is quite severe. You can perhaps, get away with 120 degrees field of view with nvidia surround. With x plane, and 3 screens you can do 180-210 degrees with no distortion. Performance is an issue though. In the military flightsim we had Falcon BMS wich basically the F-16 with all the systems simulated, like Zibo did with the B737-800, or the Team Fusion Patches for IL-2, and etc. It's not new in the flightsim as a whole, however it was for the current flightsims like XP11, then FBW for FS2020, etc

Msfs has spoiled you so much that you can’t even see that this is a massive overhaul from xplane 11. They improved so much things. I forgot what this phenomenon is called but it’s turbulence that happens during takeoff when the air is disturbed around the plane. Xp11 didn’t have that or if it did it was very weak. Things such as improved weather engine new lighting engine new graphics engine improved ground textures snow textures rain puddles ground vehicle sounds road vehicle sounds and 3D trees. May I remind you msfs doesn’t really have 3D trees and if it does its only in some parts of it. Xplane 12 will also have seasons something msfs doesn’t have. Xplane 11 didn’t have seasons. Xplane 12 will have a better improved flight model msfs has a horrible flight model. I mean a real 747 pilot played it landed a 747 touched down at 120 knots bounced off the runway and even he said the physics in that wasn’t realistic. If X12 can implement a halfway decent AI ATC (for me and AI planes, doesn't even have to support multiplayer), then I'm already sold. The clicky menu ATC thing in MFS 2020 is the only thing I really miss when playing X11 (along with ATC that doesn't just randomly vector you around for no reason).
    As an aside, here's a crazy idea: Go backwards on visuals (as an option). I'd love a switch in Xplane to reduce graphics to clean but simple textures (think how VTOL VR looks -- low fidelity but everything is crisp, no huge pixels stretched out). I only sim in VR these days, and with the inherently lower visual clarity of VR plus the higher horsepower demands, I think a "Low Fi" graphical environment could be a huge benefit for VR folks, less-powerful-pc folks, and folks who want better visual clarity.

I think, this feature (as announced by Austin on the presentation before the acid trip started) has gotten a bit overlooked by most people. If I got it right, XP12 will let us really "work" with the weather, like flying around a thunderstorm or find the best routes in regards of weather. Like in real word flying, where weather is absolutely crucial, at least with smaller aircrafts.

    They need to put new single engine planes for training like C152, Arrow II, Tomahawk, etc. They need to incorporate 2D panels for small planes like FSX and improve options like panoramic view (without panel) but capable to be use with head tracking because many people love separate devices for their instruments, and they have to invest a lot of money to have three or more monitors for the left or right views. Having only one monitor for the panoramic view and headtracking will be a killer the marker believe it or not. Many new or old pilots in simulation, use Ipads for the glass panels or other instruments, combined with monitors only for the view. There is one UK virtual pilot that uses touch screen monitor with Air manager software for the instruments but the only way to use headtracking is with 3D cockpit nd that makes it redundant. I hope you got the idea and Laminar Research get the memo.
