    Mead is an alcoholic beverage created by fermenting honey with water, sometimes with various fruits, spices, grains, or hops. The alcoholic content ranges from about 3.5% ABV to more than 18%. The defining characteristic of mead is that the majority of the beverage's fermentable sugar is derived from honey.

    Is it really this simple to make a alcoholic beverage. Sweet dude I'm getting drunk.

  • @Dave_en
    @Dave_en 3 года назад +27

    I usually make mead in the winters and it takes 40 days to complete the fermentation process. It's much slower than fermenting sugar. But I would suggest to degas the fermenting liquid if you want to minimize the yeast odour. Also use little raisins to make mead stronger.
    In three months, this mead is ready to drink and can be aged for better flavour and transparency.

    • @Dave_en
      @Dave_en 3 года назад +6

      @Mecanic Z1 just few raisins to supply organic nutrients for the yeast. Add around 10 raisins chopped into pieces per litre. If you add more, it would alter flavour and taste of the mead.
      Let the fermentation stop and then only transfer the contents to new jar after removing the raisins and yeast sediments. It takes 3-4 months to clear the mead or any wine to be drinkable. So do not hurry.
      The mead attains maturity at 9 months though you can drink it after just 3 months.

      @@Dave_en can I know the process.of making of mead...I want to do this as my minor project plseee

    • @Dave_en
      @Dave_en 3 года назад +3

      @@p.saiteja285 definitely I can help you in mead making. Take 1kg pure unrefined honey and 2 litres of boiled and cooled water. Mix them while the water is warm (warm enough to take bath). This will speed up the dissolving process. You can take 1:3 ratio too. Add few golden raisins for natural honey coloured mead, black raisins for little darker mead. Add the juice of a small lemon to adjust the pH to make the right environment for the yeast to work efficiently. You can also add little bit of apple juice about 50ml. So together (raisins, lemon and apple) works as acid blend, fully organic alternative to expensive chemical additive which is available at Amazon.
      This is my invented secret formula which nobody thought of. It's also verified practically by me.
      Now prepare the yeast by dissolving a teaspoon of it in little warm water. Add to the honey water mixture and shake vigorously. Keep it under airlock and stir for two minutes twice a day for 7-10 days. Then you can degas your mead once in a while. Temperature should be around 22-25 degree C for best results. After a month of fermentation, keep it undisturbed for another month in dark place. In fact, this jar should be kept at dark place all the time, no sunlight should fall on it. Siphon it after completion of 2 months from start. Again siphon next month to get clearest mead. You can also bottle the mead during second or third racking.

    @The Daaru TV i don't think your drink has 18%,only if you have a super sweet honey with more sugar,speacial yeast for beer or wine not baking yeast and how much yeast you use,in 30 days you can make maybe 6,3% and you interuppted the fermentacion process when you switch the bottels,a good mead it has to stay minimum 2 months until fermentation stops and another 1 month to chill.What you have there is just water with honey and some alcohol, like a soft beer.

      I agree that it’s not it’s not nearly 18%, but he probably reached 10-12% since he used the regular amount of honey for a 14% brew. He interrupted fermentation but only for probably 30 minutes or so. And if he used bread yeast it can reach up to 13% if he was lucky. I’m guessing with the small amounts he’s working with that he got 10%, if it was a little sweet still.

      I think the yeast have to be a small amount if I m not wrong. Your sour honey wine can be used to replace the yeast, it will work fine. You can use one full glass. This drink is very common in Ethiopia & Eritrea. We use yeast only for starter if we don’t have honey wine already made @home. once we make 1st batch, we no longer use yeast instead we keep using from 1st batch & so on…

      You need to remove the yeast or your stomach may hurt next morning along with diarrhea. Also yeasty drink tastes worst. So let the yeasts settle down before drinking. Rack 2-3 times till the beverage gets clear like glass. Keep it for atleast 3 months if you want to enjoy the taste of your own homemade mead.

      I would recommend stirring it daily for few minutes. That way bad flavours would go away leaving you with best mead.
