I’m glad that Carluccio’s is still going, but sad their restaurant in my home town closed. Antonio Carluccio did a lot to introduce really good Italian ‘home’ cooking to the UK and did several TV series. He’s sadly missed.

Carluccio's restaurant is lovely. It was run by a well known Italian chef called Antonio Carluccio. He died in 2017. It was a chain of restaurants but many of them closed down in recent years. There's about 30 left in the UK. Wow you got a really good deal on that B&B.

As a Brit living in France I have to give a big Thumbs-up to the French rail network. We recently travelled TGV from Bordeaux to Paris.
It was about £38 UK each way, for a 340 mile journey, at about 200mph in places , in 2 hours 20 minutes.
I cry when I think how much it cost me to commute to London (occasionally thank God), and how long it took to cover about 65 miles (standing most of the way back home).

You used to be able to go on the Eurostar directly to Disney Land Paris, you even used to get Disney characters on the train and if you were staying at one of the actual Disney hotels, they would take your luggage to your hotel for you so you could go straight to the park, Disney village. Etc.

After its recent refurbishment, St Pancras is surely now the most pleasing of major London railway termini. Unfortunately, Eurostar runs into Paris Nord, probably one of the city most unprepossessing railway stations. Brussel Midi/Sud is slightly less depressing.

    • @oliviadaly4795
      @oliviadaly4795 Год назад +2

It's super easy. I have to go with my mum now and then for business (my sister lives in Paris and co-runs a business there with my mum who lives in London. I own a small percentage of the business too)
St Pancras International is in Central London and easy to get to. You go through English and French passport control, sit down in waiting area, board the train, then 2 and a bit (somewhere between 2 15 and 2 45) hours and you arrive in Paris and you've already been through passport control so you just walk out into the city centre.
Much greener, and quicker by train. Also you don't have any luggage weight restrictions, as long as it fits in the luggage racks (or on the above your head luggage racks for smaller cases) and you can get it on the train!
You can take food and alcohol.
I always take lunch with me on the train
You can't go direct to DLP anymore. They ditched that sevice; you have to change (I think before Paris) and take an RER train

You see a lot of double decker trains in The Netherlands (which is, of course, famously flat). I think that in the UK there are just too many tunnels that would need upgrading to make it economically viable on most lines.

Enjoyable video. I am surprised you never took the direct Eurostar London-Disneyland. In the 1990s we as a family went to Disneyland Paris using the direct train. Sadly the latter ceases to operate soon. We stayed at the New York hotel ... at that time there were fewer options (outside the Disney area) than there are today,

When they first opened the Eurostar terminal at St. Pancras they asked for volunteers to test the security systems in exchange for a free return Eurostar tickets. I signed up and went through all that security and back again three times in day with a load of empty baggage - then when I went down into the Tube afterwards to go back to my aunt's house in London I was immediately stopped and searched under the random check powers via the Terrorism Act. Because clearly I had not been checked enough :D Fortunately they accepted I was not a threat and I was on my way quickly after sharing a joke with the bemused copper. And I had a very nice weekend in Belgium with my free ticket!

When we visited, we ended up on the wrong train because, at the last minute, they changed platforms on us. So we traveled 20 minutes the wrong way, and the train we were on didn't have the lights on the sign. If I hadn't decided to reload google maps, who knows how far we would have gone. We ended up in a rural train station while it was snowing, waiting for the right one so we could travel 90 minutes to Disney. Traveling is just one big adventure, and I know my wife and I will never forget that mistake. By the end of our weeklong stay in Paris, we had the metro and RAR down cold.

    OK, the response from locals.
Firstly, the lady is very jolly.
Has she considered television or radio as a career?
    1) in Britain, we have double deckers everywhere.
I've even been on double deckers along country lanes passing beside cornfields, with sheep blocking the road (the driver asking you to get out and shew them off the road).
    2) you missed much on your surface travel to Paris by not going in daylight.
That's the whole point, over taking the plane (i have done both).
    3) I tend to have some sympathy with the comment from another reply who disapproved of your stay at Disneyland.
However, to be fair, I don't really have much experience of how things pan out for non French speakers, so maybe it wasn't such a bad idea for you guys after all.
    4) why didn't you come over with dollar Britrail ticket which would have included everything with one ticket, AND a good deal cheaper.!!!
