@@sarcasmo57 This clip always fills me with sadness and dread because of its simplicity and elegance with which it outlines the most important trouble of our lifetimes. As the masters put it: "Deeply fascinating but terribly sad."

R.I.P John Clarke, you were a funny funny man, and I loved how you took the piss out of the media and politicians. My condolences to your family, you will be sorely missed.
i also note the Govt's use of the word "riot" to describe Uni student protest as opposed to the "disturbance" on Manus island where one bloke was actually killed and some severely injured.
+Ryan B Idiots don't know that they are idiots, monsters don't know they're monsters. People believe in and act upon their emotions - both physically and verbally. You don't know what you are or what you're saying - all you know is what you feel - this makes you an idiot. Good luck with the rest of your pointless waste of life.
Mark Lucas It is much worse than mere ignorance. It is willful denial of a standard. People can't help themselves. The stupider you realize you are, the wiser you become. People have chosen. They see what is wrong, and think no no what I feel is more important.
What was so continually amazing about this duo is that regardless of where you placed yourself in the political spectrum or which part was currently in power, they could still make you guffaw with that brilliant mix of brutal honesty and very clever satire. Truly a high point of political commentary on Australian TV, and desperately missed these days.
"I'm just relieved to find out that words actually have meanings." Aha, there it is, I found it! That's the Australian usage. Because in American English words definitely don't mean anything other than what you feel like they should.
Do a search for Fred Dagg. Also, see if you can find the TV series "the Games" which was a brilliant and hilarious look at organizing the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Hopefully they are still playing Clarke and Dawe segments in university lectures by the time my children are attending, just so they get a grasp on any elements of double-speak I havnt been able to drive home already
Nothing short of brilliant - nothing to be compared with this well-missed duo ... “Lars Tortus” ~ very slow. Listening once is simply not enough. R.I.P. John !!
"We were getting calls from people we frankly didn't want as our customers. We needed p'raps to reposition the business." "You were attracting the wrong crowd?" "Indeed, Brian, and we needed to rebrand it, I s'pose." "And what do you actually do?" "We repair Incendiary devices, Brian" "Oh, is that dangerous?" "Well, no. Not if you know what your doing. No." "And, as a matter of interest, what did the job used to be called?" "Match fixing, Brian. We used to fix matches."
Real estate hyperbole gets me.... "On a gently undulating block" - ideal if you are farming mountain goats. "Freshly repainted inside and out" - to hide the subsidence cracks and rising damp stains. "Newly fitted kitchen" - better than boxes of bits you have to fit yourself. "Ocean views" - if you climb on the roof, then climb up the chimney and then shimmy up the television antenna - the blue line in the distance, is the ocean. "in a quiet cul-de-sac" - on a gravel road, thirty kilometers from the nearest shop.
We, as a species, will not he around in a thousand years because of people in power who use language in this exact manner. Apparently we need warmer weather for tourists and such.
Sadly ... at times I think Jon Clarke (who writes the clips) and Brian Dawes are the only two people left in Australia that can see the wood for the trees. It is sad as an 'overseas' Aussie to see how politics in Australia is descending into depths of despair. The Labor Party after their performance in the past few years needed a kick in the A#se but what we have now is like something out of the 19th Century. The rich versus the poor and many of their supporters will soon be quite poor. Over 50% of Australian exports is Coal which produces greenhouse gases and Iron Ore which needs coal to turn it into steel. One way or another in the next 20 years or so... it will be a bare rock in an ocean.
Well it was the Whitlam Labor govt who signed Australia up to the Lima Agreement in 1973. You’d remember that one, the agreement which specified the sending to The Third World of Australia’s manufacturing jobs. How did that turn out? Our kids can’t get good paying real jobs. We now only serve each other coffee and build shoddy housing out of second rate Chynese building materials. Wait, there’s more, we now are blessed to have Chyna buying up all our farmland and corrupting our politics. Dirty Chynese money everywhere. Globalism has been such a blessing for Australia. Imagine if Whitlam had of stood up and said “ Your children will not be able to follow you and secure high end manufacturing jobs, because we’re sending them all to Chyna”. “ Basically, f*ck you and your children’s aspirations” What would have Aussies have done, do you think?
This is phenomenal. I’d never seen any of their skits before and just went through like 10 of em and it’s fantastic, also hits a little too close to home. Guess American politicians are just as complicit as Australian ones in this type of English.
Well any politically aware person in this country would completely understand what ol'mate said, I certainly did and found it hilarious, plus that ending, ah so good!
Incendiary device repair = match fixing. FANTASTIC!

I've been binging on John and Bryan. It's still hard to get my head around the fact that John's gone.
Nixer Doyle - And a very sad day on both sides of the very sad day it was, too, on both sides of the ditch!!

Absolute gold, two giants of the great Aussie piss take.
They were brilliant.
"We know where we are now, and that's tragic." That sums everything up beautifully. :(
These guys are comedic geniuses. I have no idea how I've never heard of them until today.
Have you seen the one called "The front fell off" ? One out their funniest ever 😂😂
A perfect balance of wit and scathing comedy.. GOLD!

2019- 5 years old and truer than ever. And that’s no lie.
Nothing ever changes with pollies, always filthy liers
No, but it might be a policy ❤
Like the UK's Yes Minister, this comedy will never get old!😂
Excellent writing and great delivery.
That little frown every time he gets told that he has been lying. perfect.
Exactly. Word per word, same as my thought

Still relevant in 2021.
I'm still sad that John is gone 😢
damn, posted in 2014 and now still just as applicable......yay progress.
Wait, are you implying that literally anything would change in two years? Since you posted this a year ago (2016)?
what, the world didn't change in a couple years? I'm FLOORED
I'll bet you feel just brilliant now
Yes, politicians are still talking up their policies and reforms.
2021 and it’s only getting worse.
Far kin top notch use of the Australian/English language. Complete bollocks by some peoples accounts but these guys knew exactly how to deliver.
They were unforgettable I miss them so much.

R.I.P. John !!
Lars Torders > last orders
I've just discovered these two and now I'm watching anything I can find lol
that sad face at the end broke my heart.
Amazing man with so much talent it just flowed over the top over the years, RIP John Clarke you will be sadly missed...😇
What IS tragic, is we lost him.
RIP J. Clarke.
Miss this duo
Just popping by for my annual Clarke and Dawe fix
You are MUCH missed, Mr John Clarke 🦋🌹🌹🦋
Never more true than it is now in 2023. Tragic..............
Ooh but I do miss him. Such a bright light😢

Very True.
"renovator's dream" - literally disintegrating
"cozy" - claustrophobic
"convenient to public transport" - next to a train line
I usually have to concentrate very closely to get what these guys are on about but this one I didnt. However, its still utter brilliance :)
People will still be laughing at this in a thousand years.
Doubt it
Not if we keep electing Climate Change denialists.
If we can laugh in July 2021, we can laugh forever

I can't help pissing myself laughing at the two of them !!

Greatly and sadly missed.
I remember watching him on TV growing up. Always spot on. :)
