An Arab who reads in Persian is the same thing as an Englishman who reads in French, apart from a word every now and then you can't understand anything.

This is correct. Even though there are Arabic words in Persian, there is always a Persian word that can be used to replace it which is what people do now.
As a Persian native speaker (I'm Iraninan), Arabic is so hard for us to learn and have a conversation with an Arab. We can read Arabic and understand it just a little bit but we can't talk and communicate. Also grammar of the Arabic is much harder & more complicated than Persian. I'm from Afghanistan and my language is Persian. My name is Ali, an Arabic name. but my family name is a persian word 'Danesh', which was mentioned in the video and means 'Knowledge'. this shows how these 2 languages have influenced each other.
I want to add another point about differences between Arabic and Persian.
It is not only 'Waw' or letter (و) that is pronounced differently between these languages. there are other letters too, and actually there are letters in Persian that there is no use of them because they are pronounced exactly same.
For example in Arabic, we have four types of 'Z' and they are (ز، ض، ظ، ذ) and three types of 'S' and they are (س، ص، ث) and each of them are pronounced differently from each other. like the words (ثم and سم) are pronounced differently in Arabic (Sam and Tham). In persian, though we have all those letters, but we pronounce each of them similarly and they are exaclty like 'Z' and 'S'.
just like the previous example (سم and ثم), we pronounce both of them as سم (sam).
and we pronounce all of (ز، ض، ظ، ذ) as (ز) like 'Z' in English. and (ت ، ط) we pronounce as 'T' and also some other letters.
Thanks you for the video!

Or you're just assimilated
assimilated for speaking the national language of my country, or for choosing one language over another?
Your usage of the word "assimilate" isn't quite correct here. Azeri ethnic group are Iranians, even more Iranians than Persians, we have been on the Iranian plateau for 5 millennials, our language has changed from Azeri to Turkic, when we were assimilated by survival necessity to the invading Turkic tribes from 10th c to 16th c, when the assimilation was competed and the ancient Azeri language was no longer spoken. Just giving you examples on how to use the word.
Remember there has been only one country which survived 5 thousands years since humanity got so advanced and organized that decided to invade far reaching lands and create empires. Iran has been located in the middle of East and West, and started the age of empires and even one can argue globalism.

+Langfocus In Dari name is not esm but Nom and many words not similar like in Persian in Iran ..
Kobulione we in Iran also use Nam , and Nam khanevadegi . We use them all interchangeably
Very educative. Thank you.
Very interesting and enlightening. Thanks!
I'm from Saudi Arabia and I really like farsi
, I enjoy hearing them talk it's beeautifullll 😍😍
I think it’s going to be a kind of challenge for my brains to try to learn some of these languages but I think I will try with Farsi. It’ sounds really beautiful but not sure wether I will use it.
learning Arabic in Persian is really hard and confusing however we have to learn it at school. btw Arabic is easily recognizable by the ال at the beginning of the words
Yeah , as an Arab , i noticed that there is no ال in persian .. beautiful language and culture .
School doesn't teach language very well, Plus, we learn too much about arabic language in school, which most of them are useless for speaking arabic. Arabic is much easier for you if you try to learn it in language institutes
As i know it's medium for English and it's easy for arabs
@@maghzforreal610 What I think is that they don't teach us spoken Arabic. They teach the Arabic that's used in Quran and Shiite Addiye.
We just use ال in the names
very very very informative and interesting. Thank you !!!!!!
In addition to Persian, there are several languages written in Arabic letters
1- Urdu 2-uigur China- Uyghur 3- Turkish before 1928 4- Somalian before 1972
Swahili and Malagasy also used to be written in Arabic
Also Pashto and Javi
Also sorani Kurdish.
@@bassamtrefi5479 ah right i forgot about that
@unk nown ما شاء الله good to hear
You're really genius keep going 👍
Greetings from Saudi Arabia
intresting video, loved it............ and also the words you said as examples also have persian forms too. i guess we use those words most in formal situations like writing articles,
Well, I speak Persian, English, Turkish, Azeri and have studied Arabic a bit. This is some really accurate information and lemme tell ya this. Learning English was faaaar more easier for me than learning Arabic. The root and templates are really complex in some cases and grammar is difficult. But all it takes is resilience so don't lose hope folks!
I'm from 🇸🇾 and I have an 🇦🇫 friend in my 🇸🇦 school
So he speak Persian
Where live you ?
Nice to meet you I'm fom 🇦🇫🌚❤️

as a Hindi speaker, i find Persian quite similar
As Standard Urdu is the Ultimate Bridge between Persian and Indic Languages.
Keeping Persian Traditions alive in Indian Sub-Continent.
@@chris-tf6gz hey I think I feel the same! (I do know Hindi, btw)
@Loyal Royaltythats is mostly because punjabi has a lot of relatively recent loan words from persian. The more interesting connection are the words that both languages share from their commone Indo-Iranian root, such as dūr for far and garm for warm.
As a Turkish, I dont find similar persian and arabic 😂
Thank you, very much, it was helpful.😘
Loved the detail ❤ very cool
This is quite a comprehensive comparison of these two languages as information for those who assume these languages to be similar. As explained here only the script and vocabulary are shared to varying degrees. Thanks for this lesson.
OMG!!! The Persian language is one of the sweetest language in the world
Chopper Kh tnx 😊 is the language of literature and Hafez 😍
hamdan alkatbi uhh wake up buddy. It's very hard for overseas ppl to pronounce ع خ ق ص ث ز ظ ث i can speak 5 languages.
nazi gol yep hafez is one the most popular person
Awesome video, awesome channel, awesome person
Paul, your lectures are amazing! Are you a linguist? BTW- your Arabic pronunciation is excellent! Please keep these interesting videos coming. I sincerely appreciate your efforts
This video is truly a great overview of the similarities & differences between Arabic and Persian (Farsi). The modified Arabic letters used in Persian are important to note and are masterfully summarized.
Very good work. You are very accurate. All the best Paul.
+Ibrahim Salameh Thanks, Ibrahim!
I would love to see a more in depth update of this with more examples. Specifically i'd love to see the arabized persian words and the different conjugations of Arabic words in persian
I was always under the impression that Persian was one of the most difficult to learn over Arabic but it seems like is the other way around from your presentation. Thank you, great video as always.
if you're a native speaker of an IE language persian is easy, german and english were rather a stroll in the park, however to this date i can't produce a single arabic sentence.
@@amirhosseynmahqany3063 I’m learning Arabic now it is a little difficult but I also speak spanish. I guess that helps some.
@@yarijoshy3410 well extra vocab always helps but it's easier for me to learn 3 IE languages than one Semitic. That's what I'm gonna do.
i am arab and love persian languge
***** why i am arab
***** you nice peopel
+Mustafa ALhussin your hate is taking u nowhere
heady you are arab?
***** respect if arab or iran
These Arab and Farsi people saying disrespectful things and insulting each others in the comments!!! grow up! it's 2016! we should all love and respect each other and live in peace!!!!!! How do you want a peaceful middle east while you still fight like jealous middle school girls on RUclips... let's only live peacefully, love and respect each other. bless you all.
Compared to many other channels the comments on my channel are generally pleasant and intelligent. But for some reason, RUclips brings out the worst in some people. Some of the comments I see are horrible and I delete them. But I only get notifications of new comments not of replies, so I don't always see the bad replies.
Some people are just incredibly negative and are addicted to the feeling of being angry.
Oh my dear :( don't be so upset about that, you're making a really awesome thing! making a lot of people learn about each others' languages which is an essential part of every culture and that would make them all more accepting and understanding of each other! a lot of respect for you!
im iranian and i agree with youre comment stay safe😊😊😊
god bless you ❤️
Muhammad Ilyas इस्लाम बुरा धर्म है
Thanks, very informative video:)
I am Bengali and I can understand a lot of Persian words than it is the case with Arabic. That's cuz Bengali and Persian have a common origin and are in the same language family. Bengali also has a tonne of loanwords from Persian and some from Arabic as well.
Yeah he said this on another video including this one
Great video, I definitely learnt something and I will now pay attention to those extra letters that Persian has! :)
Wow really for the first time, i see someone explains so clearly and professionally
Its really a great content
Very nice video 👏🏼
Thx
Thanks, very nice explanation. One thing that is mentionable: For most of the arabic loan words there actually is a native persian version, which is either used in another context or not used often because it sounds antiquitated. For example you mentioned the word for "Name" which in native persian would be "Nam". In every day slang the word "Esm" is much much more common. But "Nam" is used nearly in 100% of formal correspondences like news, books or formulae. If you would ask someone on the street "Name to che ast?", he would definitely think you are a time traveller. And the same thing happens, when "Esm" is used in a formal context
Thanks for this video! I grew up listening to Arabic music and never actually realized all of the sounds it doesn't have! And I knew the alphabet was similar, but didn't know why.
Good stuff!
Belal DarkneSS Thanks man! I'm saving this info.
Great video!
BTW, just to let you know, we have original Persian equivalents for all of the words you mentioned in your video, but sadly, they are not used very often in every-day conversations.
And about the scripts: The current script of the Persian language was not borrowed from Arabic language, to be more specific, after the Arab conquest of Persia, Persian and Arabic scripts merged with each other, and thus this new common script was born.
This was an amazingly informative video. I knew some of this stuff but now I really get it. I wish you had given examples of known Persian words in Classical Arabic. I’ve heard that even some of the words in the Quran are derived from Persian but I’ve never found confirmation or any examples.
