I remember driving both a 590, and a 575. One of them was "Multi-Power" but I couldn't say which, but it used to piss off the lorry drivers on the A64. There were traffic lights on the 64 back then, and when you came to a stop, the lorries would move out to the right hand lane - You know what's coming don't you? - A quick waltz through the gears, floor it in 'top' hit the Multi-Power, and leave them standing. Of course, the effect was only temporary, but for the first quarter of a mile, you were way out in front! Ah, happy days. . . . . . I don't think our 590 was blown though, but we did have several tractors that were. Didn't David Brown manufacture a turboed 1412 Hydro-Shift in the late '70s? We still have a 1490 with a Garrett turbo - That sounds nice on song!
@@andyhutch8262 Whaaaaat?! - That's just plain nuts. I know Whitwell, I had a runaway Ford Thames van on the westbound downhill side of Whitwell. That was bad enough, but in a tractor? You'd have to tell the constable there was a screw loose! You'll know the traffic lights that used cause the multiple pile-ups at Copmanthorpe, and Bishopthorpe lane ends? I worked at Askham Bryan during the 1980s - Nice selection of tractors to drive back then, and that Multi-Power Fergy was by far the best for roading between ABCAH and Murton.
WoW what a lovely old 590T an old friend of mine has still got his one that he uses only on opening up potato rows with a small trailer. Great sound track coming from that turbo too. Fenland Rob
I am a Massey ferguson nut!! That 590 really sounds the business!!! I have had lots of different mf tractors over the years including a 188 and a 590. They are good solid tractors the 575 is also a tractor that you should not dismiss out of hand. I enjoyed the video. Thanks.
Gawd knows how I came to this, but it stirred up student memories of 40 years ago. The South Essex farm I joined in '79 had a nearly new 590 2wd fitted with an Opico turbo. It seemed light years ahead (it was only a cab) from the 188 that I mostly drove that year. It pulled like a train and probably better than the farm's 595. The 595 and 188 had front wheel weights and PAVT and rode more comfortably than the light 590. The 590 was also woefully slow on the road and wandered like a drunk after closing time. The tractor was supplied by Eastern Tractors and the turbo fitted pre delivery. The following year a second 590 was added to the fleet. It was then decided with MF, dealer and Opico to run the tractor for 100 or so hours before fitting the turbo. The reasoning was to allow the engine to "bed in". The first one consumed oil at an alarming rate and continued to do so even after several 100hrs. The second one was definitely better but could have been any number of reasons? The 590 had a bad rep on some farms but they gave my bosses little trouble and were a better place to spend the day than a pre Q cab. I never had a problem with one door and the later one had a better side window. They were a bit short on gears by modern standards and the MP a bit quirky (I bet I was not the only one to try free wheeling down hill).
blimey shes in a great condition for her age, clearly looked after for sure as you say, theres a IMT 4wd one down here,in similar condition ,out on dartmoor on a small holding near merrivale quarry , in a similar condition, again fitted with the opico turbo , rareish girl i suspect

The first tractor I ploughed with was a MF 590 turbo , 2wd v reg , loved the sound of it and the stainless exhaust, it had a habit of pulling the lugs which hold the dish to the rear rims , and getting lots of punctures. Be aware of the side window which would close and blacken your finger nails in it ! I can feel it now ooooooooooch , great vid , love to see it ploughing before the big strip down, maybe a before and after ? Thanks Norfolk nomad
Very interesting tractor and history! MFs of course are some of the best tractors made. And a strong, healthy sounding engine! The whistle of the turbo spooling up is music to the ears! Thank you for sharing! 🚜 🚜🚜
Great informative video!! Love that whine of the turbo. Thank you for filming it all!! By the way, loved the rescue dog video you put out last video, great job there sir All the best!
Looks a honest example of a 590. Actually just sold a early one like that but not as tidy. Mechanically it was perfect but the cab floor was Fred flintstone spec. Always meant to do it up a bit but never got around to it, so be interesting to see how it comes along. Roof lining looks amazing. Mine was doubling up as a birds nest.
590 was an excellent machine at the time, cutting edge. after the 590 series we had a 698, another good MF. After this time I consider MF lost market share due to two reasons, they failed at R&D, and John Deere introduced the sound gard cab, the one with the round door, it was in my opinion the first comfortable tractor. With agco the parent of MF it appears MF have turned a corner. I have operated several makes of tractor, at heart I am loyal to MF.
Nice MF 590 we had a 2wd model but she was very be slow on the road compared to our old165 so we changed her for a 2wd ford 7610ap which we still have . MP would fairly speed them up it's a great job cool video 👍
Cor she's nice. I have a 590 2 wheel drive non turbo. Not just a tractor that sits in a shed, I use it for contracting running a massey little baler, topper, teagle silage trailer and other jobs. Mines in original condition done a lot of hours. In the first 4 years it did 8000 hours

The best tractor ( in its class ) of the day. The ones I drove had Opico air pre cleaners , which helped the engine breathe better in very dusty conditions . The 4WD front axle killed the power of the 248 engine ,so the turbo made a huge difference . Around 90 hp when fitted ,( not hard to open them up to 100 ! but don't tell the boss ) A better tractor than the 690 which followed it .
Fantastic video Kurt 👌 that sound brought back so many happy memories 😃 running the tractor with the door open in all weather's just to hear the music 🎶💪👍
This has nothing to do with video but I'd thought I'd share it My granddad had just bought a new IH 955 and he drove to the neighbor's farm who had a 6 cylinder deutz tractor and the neighbor was going on about how this deutz was a marvelous tractor and why had my granddad bought this IH so my granddad said " well then, have you got a chain" so they put the tractors together and well you've never seen a smile go from a face so quickly as this IH dragged this deutz around the yard and up the drive.
From memory of a MF35X with Multipower you only had engine braking in low range? if you shifted to high with the nose down hill the tractor free wheeled and you had to apply the brakes to hold the acceleration. have a great day all the best from NZ

Excellent video of 590 Massey Ferguson tractor also she in very nice shape and never seen one before and today did Lord Muck :) ! I heard about them but this running like kitten and whistle sound love hear too ! I remember the tractors my late dad also his older brother had farm I grew up did lots and cool sound! The 1968 McCormick International 105C combine had four cylinders 202 Cubic Inches size gas Farmall H motor with piglet muffler with ran no Turbo at all it had funny whistle on low to high idle! The 1968 International 624 A 60 hp with 206 Double Displacement Desiel motor, 1978 International 724 B four cylinders of 265 Double Displacement 72 hp Desiel motor both had round exhaust muffler with rain plus Throttle Air Induction Turbo and whistle on high over 2200 RPM when not pulling any machinery tractor itself or machinery when top gear in highway speeds going up high hill or down hills of 45 degrees angle ! Even use for sitting still when did Handmill chop feed make grid up grains or pick corn in barn on PTO speeds even feild work too ! My dad used say there Whistleing doing hard work and don't let foul you! LOL
1220 defo arable tractor the where on the seat is where they sit and chunk of seat missing where they position them selves rubber necking the implement nice find well looked after
@@LordMuck sure did especially on forage harvesters, the difference is in the 70’s it was for extra power, nowadays it is more about reducing emissions. That said cracking find by Fud Weasel, look forward to see more on this tractor.
Can remember ads for Opico turbo in Power Farming mag in the 70s …they seemed to plug them big time……the shite that’s in my head think it’s time to get a skip
Lord Muck sir that shed features both Ford And Massey I can’t decide which one I love more, someone asked me one time and i said it’s like ask which parent I love more I treat them with the same contempt 🤷🏻♂️
Good to see the old tractors, they remind me of growing up in the country. I'm looking forward to the new content you have planned. I've just subscribed to Fudwiesels channel.
A very early good morning to you your Lordship, another interesting and fascinating video this week and I have driven a Massey Ferguson 500 series tractor 🚜 during my short but most rewarding time of working on the farm and found it to be a good work horse 🐎 but I never got to drive the TURBO variant, but all the Same though I really do like 👍 a good classic vehicle 🚗 and it doesn’t matter whether where it comes from be it agricultural or on the road or race track or even being rallied and until next TaRa for a bit.
Cant get over the price of the manifold! Would you see it as an akward tractor to use with the single big door? Well worth pointing out the notification issue, I get the same with people asking where I've been.
I drove one and two door 500 series throughout the 70s and 80s, even on the two door ones, nobody ever used the right door on them. I rarely use the right hand door even on modern tractors today
Hello. Always thought MF 590 good tractor. Amazingly gutsy on PTO especially for silageing. Always me got left buckraking on heap, had good reverse gear ratio, again gutsy engine at low RPM. Also, had very responsive draft system, beat any other make. Tribute to Harry himself I think!!! Keep up the vid's, evoke lots of memories. Martin.
That's the plan. We've been working on some really good stuff for later this year and heading into next year which will allow us to do a lot more for all my followers 👍
Right muck any chance of a 'will it start' like that old jcb drott dozer or the old ford 3000 and then loading the engine full of bill cosbys party gas to get em going.
Paint on the bonnet is not too bad, They never put much red on them when they were new. Looks to be a french Beauvais built model, chassis is silver grey and it has a rectangular plough light. Wonder how much the pump was turned up when the turbo was fitted, be nice to see it on a dyno.
Your Lordship, That 509, she got herself a Chrome Exhaust pipe. . . Easy extra 35 HP!.... At 8:03 , I channeled my inner Greta, and screamed HOW DARE YOU!!!! at the computer screen....Thanks for another great Video!

it was nice to meet you at the blue ford force day at stonham aspel
Likewise Stephen 👍
The Opico turbo was made by M&W in the States and added about 20 hp
Made a big difference back in the day.
@@LordMuck sure did especially on forage harvesters, the difference is in the 70’s it was for extra power, nowadays it is more about reducing emissions. That said cracking find by Fud Weasel, look forward to see more on this tractor.
the standard 590 was 75 hp and the turbo was about the same as the 595 about 88 hp . i grew up driving them in the uk perhaps they detuned them here
Can remember ads for Opico turbo in Power Farming mag in the 70s …they seemed to plug them big time……the shite that’s in my head think it’s time to get a skip
Lord Muck sir that shed features both Ford And Massey I can’t decide which one I love more, someone asked me one time and i said it’s like ask which parent I love more I treat them with the same contempt 🤷🏻♂️
Sounds great nice original 590.

Good to see the old tractors, they remind me of growing up in the country. I'm looking forward to the new content you have planned. I've just subscribed to Fudwiesels channel.
He's started putting a few bits on but will put a lot more on now as the weeks pass.
That Brilliant, Farmer Phil& Father Phil would love that tractor, can you send a link for that Guy's Channel please 👌
Clarence Fud-Weasel
Love the channel Lord Muck!!! Keep them coming! Love the rebuild and services videos!
Another great video, much enjoyed as always 👍👍👍👌🏻
I need a opico or tb turbo for my Massey 560
Pretty much learnt to drive in one of these when I was 8 years old !!
Have 1 and yes make gate holes wide in no time
Great video Lord muck, that is a nice straight and tidy tractor for its age 👍🚜
Cant get over the price of the manifold! Would you see it as an akward tractor to use with the single big door? Well worth pointing out the notification issue, I get the same with people asking where I've been.
I drove one and two door 500 series throughout the 70s and 80s, even on the two door ones, nobody ever used the right door on them. I rarely use the right hand door even on modern tractors today
I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I've used the R/H door on any tractor.
so gald you got a 590 ive been a 590 fan since i drove them back in the day
Martin.
Such a lovely sound.
Another great video keep up the good work
Just keep doing what you do 👍🏻
That's the plan. We've been working on some really good stuff for later this year and heading into next year which will allow us to do a lot more for all my followers 👍
Well now thats a neat little Massey
Right muck any chance of a 'will it start' like that old jcb drott dozer or the old ford 3000 and then loading the engine full of bill cosbys party gas to get em going.
No.
...well maybe early next year 😉
Paint on the bonnet is not too bad, They never put much red on them when they were new. Looks to be a french Beauvais built model, chassis is silver grey and it has a rectangular plough light. Wonder how much the pump was turned up when the turbo was fitted, be nice to see it on a dyno.
They didn’t make 4 wheel drive 500s in banner lane
All the 4WD were French built with the flint grey skid, single step cab and rectangular ploughing lamp.
It would look nice repainted
Thanks Kurt great vid sir.. Take care..
Cheers Kev 👍
Great video mucka that turbo sound just brings back memories thumbs up from me 👍🏻
Also I normally get all Your notifications
Great acquisition!
Your Lordship, That 509, she got herself a Chrome Exhaust pipe. . . Easy extra 35 HP!.... At 8:03 , I channeled my inner Greta, and screamed HOW DARE YOU!!!! at the computer screen....Thanks for another great Video!
That whistle sure sounds good 👌👌👌👍
Love the 590. Good buy.
Sounds so good. That has a better whistle than a Td5
My ring piece after a Jalfrezi sounds better than a TD5...
@@LordMuck how much horsepower is the 590 turbo???
