I love the "shall we fix it?" attitude. I love fixing things and i like to pass that way of viewing the world as fixable on to the kids. It feels like having control and not being subject to the whims of the world all that much. I like when kids feel that kind of power over their surroundings. They have options. They don´t like the state of things? Fine. They can change it and they know it.
I have an Android tablet with a CD player in it. I got spray glue on the screen then ruined the screen by spraying cleaner on it and dissolving the connections on the glass to make it touch sensitive. Now, after seeing you do this, I think I'll try a repair. You rock, man.
Great to see you fixing something like this Marty in an age of disposable consumer goods. I'm sure the tech companies would rather see you commit it to landfill and buy a new one. You make things look so easy, that's a real talent. Fair play. Keep up the good work. Happy Christmas to you and your young family all the way from Ireland🇮🇪
So cute. I remember when my Daughter was that age, and eagerly awaiting the arrival of Father Christmas. I now have two Grandsons of about the same age and we are at that time of the year again. Great video as always Marty.
As someone in IT, that went better than it could have. Sometimes those adhesive strips don't let go unless you apply heat to them with a heat gun. Merry Christmas from the States!
In a way, that was my favorite video of yours. To your kids, that was as important as any hydraulic cylinder rebuild you’ve ever done. I am glad you learned to make time for kids, didn’t learn that lesson until much to late. Hope you and the family have a great year.
It has recently dawned on my 66 years ,the reason people don’t fix things isn’t because they can’t , it’s that they don’t try. Thankyou Marty for setting an excellent example.
Have a great Christmas Marty and your family, your daughters NZ accent is adorable and your son seam to be another Marty in the making. Take care and thanks for your videos from Tassie.
You can fix the big iron, do lumberjack and house construction stuff and make your adorable kids happy with a computer tablet repair. Well done lad. A blessed and Merry Christmas to you and the family.
The ability to fix things is a skill long since forgotten (by many) and as a result the world has become a world of throw away and buy a replacement which is very wasteful . Its refreshing to see this tablet skillfully repaired . Marty is a man of many skills .Good on ya mate .
You left us hanging Marty.... I was enjoying that roster story and now I don't know how it ends. Thanks as always for the great video and Merry Christmas to the family!!
Great video as always cherish those years they go very quickly. You do relive it again with the grand children. All the very best to you and your family for Xmas and the new year.
Kids today by the age of 2 can open, play, work and close programs on their tablets. I am pretty sure when I was that age I was eating dirt. Great stuff Marty!!
Awesome video! That part of the screen is called the digitizer, it registers touch. The actual display screen was unbroken. Which is lucky as the screens can be pricey sometimes.
Hi Marti, I've really enjoyed watching your vids this year especially the ones with the David Brown tractors. Took me right back to farming during the 60's, 70's & 80's in the North of England when we were using those self same machines. Looking forward to following you in 2022. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you and your family.
Butter Knife IT - nice work when you don't have a Big Clive spudger handy. Had my first try at recovering a second hand Milwaukee 12ah battery I got a friend to pick up for less than half new price. Advertised as "surplus to needs".. It would only charge to 2 bars and run my chainsaw for less than two minutes. One of the five banks of cells was fully charged and the rest were around 3.3v. Used a 5W car globe to bring the high bank down sliwly, and a lithium charger to bring the rest up to meet the discharging bank at 3.7v. Charges up and is now working perfectly. The satisfaction of repairing an item is better than getting a new one.
I have done this a number of times on cell phones and tablets. When we upgraded out phones we kept the old ones for playing with and over time the screen broke and swapped them out. My aunt had the same phone when she visited a few years ago and she had a broke phone and I asked her why she did not get a new one. She said that one of the function that her phone had did not come with other phones so I took a look and it happend to be one of the older phones I had so I swapped her screen out. Worked very well and gave her another spare screen. I have done the same with tablets when they get replaced. I keep the older ones and use them till you can not use them any more. Replacement are easy on most things. Good job on fixing this one.
Omg your kids are so cute 😍 That definitely went way better than I expected it to, normally little fiddly stuff like that goes completely wrong a few times in a row. Glad it worked out!
Good work as usual Marty, happy kids again getting a new screen. Merry Christmas wishes to you and the family from Texas, stay safe & enjoy the holidays. * * *
Must be great to have a dad who is such a great fixer upper. Lucky those numbers weren’t written in Chinese lol. Merry Christmas to you and your family and fans.
Marty I wish you and your family a happy Christmas and a very happy and healthy new year. Also happy Christmas and a healthy and happy new year to the rest of your army of followers.. Best wishes from Ireland 🌲
Nice little repair. I normally find with tablets and phones that finding parts for them can be an absolute minefield but that seems to have gone very smoothly for yourself.
Thanks Marty for another great video - I use you as a substitute for one of my "trips back home", stay natural and true to yourself Marty, it reminds me of home in so many different ways.
The kids definitely think you are the best dad in town, and who am I to disagree, I don't think that I would have attempted that repair, my abilities do not stretch that far, hope you and your family all have a safe Xmas, and best wishes for the new year going forward, have totally enjoyed all your videos, regards from just up the road in Auckland.
Well done. At work we use old "loyalty" cards to open cases generally rather than a knife, whereas Big Clive uses a "spudger" (Oddly a thin stainless blunt blade). Can get in places where a knife can't.
@@herrakaarme Pleased to have helped. Hunt for all the screws (if there are any) first. There is also usually a take down video on RUclips somewhere. Also it is the corners of the cards you use.
Hi Marty, wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a safe, happy and healthy New Year. Many thanks again for all your time and effort producing amazing videos.
Nice work. I've seen it done before but usually with a heat gun as the adhesives are often pretty strong. Good to see the tool from the kitchen drawer saved the day.
Wait..what! Where is Hugh Jeffries repair video??? No way! Now Marty T is a tech repair man 😳😱 You made it look simple Marty, & much quicker. No challenge is to great for Mart T 😎😎😎
Clear packing tape over the shattered area prevents glass shards from falling out. Your children are nice. So is their mom. Oh, alright, so are you. 😀 Merry Christmas
Nice easy fix - and good advice not to leave it lying around haha 👍 I just fixed the screen on an iPhone XR, a bit more involved and more £ but got it done. Merry Christmas 🎄

Love the way you think.
The butter knife is by far one of the handiest tools in the kitchen. I like to think of it as the early mans multi tool.
The old guitar pic is also a useful tool for laptops/tablet disassembly. Nice work Marty
My wife's favorite. A few times I've had to straighten them out. I used one last night to pop the top off our drier. ;-)
The OG spudger.
I have an Android tablet with a CD player in it. I got spray glue on the screen then ruined the screen by spraying cleaner on it and dissolving the connections on the glass to make it touch sensitive. Now, after seeing you do this, I think I'll try a repair. You rock, man.
I have two butter knives (thin and thick) in my tool kit. You just can't beat the versatility. :))
Marty can repair just about anything.

Good pro tip thanks.. Merry Christmas to you too
Going on a limb to say that the glue might've not been the kind of glue we're usually used to.
You can also get the adhesive tape they use to hold the screen on in rolls of varying widths for repairs like this.
And even still it's a pain in the ass lol
Wow that was asome

Happy Christmas, Marty. Treasure the days while they are small - the years flash past so fast!
So true
Thanks man, same to you
You are a true Renaissance Man! Great video as always.
Pretty good repair job for a tablet that had been left in the woods for 15 years !!! ;) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Marty and family !!! :)

I am glad you learned to make time for kids, didn’t learn that lesson until much to late. Hope you and the family have a great year.
Back in the day most dads used to fix stuff. Now it is becoming a lost art but well done Marty!
From tractors to tablets, from scrapers to screens. Is there anything that this man cannot fix
His marriage if he brings another tractor home hehehe
What won't you fix, mate?!? Merry Christmas to you and your family, Marty!!!
The cat, maybe,

Nice to see Marty actually has a home and doesn’t just live in his shed as the legend has it…
Man, you were lucky that was a model with a separate lcd/digitizer. I havent' seen one like that in ages!

Handy to have those calloused mechanic hands that will also do fine electronic device repair 😅 Your ingenuity covers all the bases Marty. 👍🏼

I find everything about this heart-warming the way all the xmas movies never could be. Merry xmas to you and your family.
Great video, enjoyed the helpful advice from your daughter at the end. Enjoy them while they're small; in retrospect it flies by.
Marty, i must say as a qualified microsoft qualified gold level technician, you did a damn fine job mate, i couldnt of done it better myself.
Silver and Gold level is only applied to Microsoft Partners, that means companies, not individuals... and I'm leaving it at that.
I just knew you would be in the shed with the rams watching over your as you cut the glass from your excavator. Pretty slick. Thanks for the fun. 🎄
Crikey... from monster sized heavy machinery to delicate innards of a tablet... amazing! Merry Christmas Marty to you and all your family!

I wish I could give this video two thumbs up. Watching your children at the end reading together was heart warming. Merry Christmas!
Very resourceful Marty, Happy Christmas.
I support repairing instead of buying new, Marty!
Thumbs up for you from the other side of the "potato, from Germany!

I'm with Big Clive on the use of a spudger, an amazing bit of kit.
@@phonotd They are, and if we had to get in to harder things than laptops and tablets I would too, but an old loyalty card is not bad either.

A good tip. I'll need to open my laptop to install a second SSD some time soon, and I was wondering what sort of tool to use, instead of my nails.
