Totally wrong! Only the new screws supplied with the Fender replacement kit will work. If you use the old ones the screw head remains proud on the clear and you can’t snap the strap on.
I just bought a brand new Strat, which came with the buttons already on the guitar but with the locks loose in the packaging. This video took the mystery out of what to do.
Step 1. Buy two bottles of Grolsch beer. Step 2. Drink the beer. Step 3. Place the red rubber washers from the lid over the strap on the strap button. It costs like $4-5 for this solution and it's rock solid. You just saved some $$$. You're welcome.
Had to remove the factory screws as heads had a too high profile preventing the locking mechanism from working. Used the screws that came with the locks and they worked fine.
Same thing with me, plus the holes in my straps were to small to let the button go thru; had to use a way larger leather punch to enlarge the strap holes! They didn't bother mentioning this could happen in the video.
Best locks I ever saw was when a buddy got tired of his Strat falling at a gig so he turned up next day with two 2 inch nails hammered through a belt into the solid wooden body of his Squier , it never ever fell off again(he kept the hsmmer in the case so he could do strap change)...really.
The screw it comes with must be used. I tried reusing my old screws and the head of the screw protrudes and causes problems.. the screw must fall into the hole for the locking mechanism to work. Also there is an orientation to the button that goes on the guitar. As well as the straps. Personally I don't care for a twisted strap. Most people should be able to figure this out but I figured it be a good idea to post it.
Not to sound strange here, but this isn't nearly as easy as portrayed here. I just spent 45+ minutes just installing the strap portion of this system on a single thickness genuine Fender "ball-glove" leather strap. The guitar that I was readying the strap for is a new Ultra Stratocaster. The screw in portion comes already installed from Fender. The strap ends aren't particularly thick leather..I have several straps that are padded and are thicker at the ends. I ended up having to get out a pair of pliers to try to compress the washer so that I could get the nut started. After finally getting the nut to catch a thread I then used a ratchet to tighten the nut. Make sure that you've confirmed your strap length before installing the bottom lock.. I'd hate to have to repeat this process...
Just been through this exact process on my ultra II. I ended up scratching them up so badly in the process I've just ordered Schaller instead, twice as much thread, zero stress
The screws on my guitar and the screws in the kit are different. The screws on my guitar are larger and have a coarse thread, they will not fit the whole in the locking mechanism. The smaller fine thread screw they sent will not tighten so it doesn’t secure the locks. Only alternative I see is to enlarge the whole in the mechanism. Any suggestions?
You planned making this video, but you did not have a wrench? I guess you got the point across well enough, after all, it is very simple. But that sounded dumb and unprepared, not just casual.
Waxing the screw is a bad idea. Not only is it unnecessary, it will increase the likelihood that the screw will loosen over time, and will prevent glue from adhering in the future, should you need to use the "toothpick and woodglue" repair to the hole.
Bought an American Deluxe Strat that came with these... it would have been nice if Fender lengthened the threaded part that the nut screws onto... I have a strap that is thicker and they wont fit. ADS came with Fender strap but is thin and cheap.
These came with my strat deluxe. They don't work. The nut comes loose over time and ping... off comes nut, washer, and if you're not quick, the strap. A standard strap is more secure.
For some reason the back screw goes in perfect, but the screw for the front is tight. I can eve. Use the original screws, I have to use the ones they gave me
Fender Squire Mustang Bass: The screws are larger and do not work. I had to use tooth picks to fill the hole gaps and the smaller screws that came in the kit.
very poor design, I have several of these and the ball end nut that you use to attach and remove the strap always comes loose and if it falls off it is a right pain to get the strap off the guitar. Fender need to redesign these, they are not fit for purpose.
Does anyone else have issues with those strap locks? the front one's nut always keeps falling like I almost dropped my awesome duff mcakgans bass gutiar liike 5 times now and I have an aneurysm each time i do. someone please recommend me strap locks that dont do this.
Make sure you use the screws that came with the kit!!! My screws off my Yamaha guitar did not work!!! after troubleshooting I found there is a difference video should be edited
Same thing on my personalized $90.00 leather strap. Had to take a much larger leather punch and enlarge the holes on my strap. This guy don't tell the HOLE story!
At 2.15 he says you could strip the screw inside the body. Sorry mate, you strip the body outside the screw. Does anyone REALLY need a video to show how to do this? And don't forget, YOU get to choose whther to use the white or the black felt washers.
Should always use the same screws that come off your guitar when installing strap locks. That way you run less of a risk of stripping out the holes.
Definitely
That's why I dont Iike the new schallers, you have to drill a new hole, these are cheaper and easier
Totally wrong! Only the new screws supplied with the Fender replacement kit will work. If you use the old ones the screw head remains proud on the clear and you can’t snap the strap on.
@Michael S yes but they are bigger, meaning they go in tight, but then expand the hole, meaning you have permentally modified ur guitar

Why don't Fender fit them as standard. It would add about $10 to the price.
David Williams Because then they couldn't sell them for $15.
They do. Depends which model you buy.
because they dont have wrenches
I actually hate them, I clicked on this video to see how easy it would be to replace them with the normal ones
Every dropped and broken guitar is another guitar sold.
Thank you guys for making these videos.

FYI you can use a 13mm socket to tighten the nut onto the threads

Same guitar, same issue!

How to...
"I don't have a wrench with me" he says in the shop. (Oh, but he DOES have a wax block....LOL)
You planned making this video, but you did not have a wrench? I guess you got the point across well enough, after all, it is very simple. But that sounded dumb and unprepared, not just casual.
Someone in the audience is going to die when this guitar flies off the stage...LOL!
Thanks for sharing guys very informative!

Il stick to washers best thing for locking your guitars and no dammage or scrapes no tools needed especially for expensive guitars
Great helpful video
I currently have a jackson bass where the screw for the strap button backs out constantly. Would the prevent that or would I have the same issue?
Are these manufactured by Schaller?
Bought an American Deluxe Strat that came with these... it would have been nice if Fender lengthened the threaded part that the nut screws onto... I have a strap that is thicker and they wont fit. ADS came with Fender strap but is thin and cheap.
I mean come on... the R&D guy can't even get the nut on in the video. That should be a clue
These came with my strat deluxe. They don't work. The nut comes loose over time and ping... off comes nut, washer, and if you're not quick, the strap.
A standard strap is more secure.
FreePadz Do you talk to Fender?
put a little loc-tite on the threads of the nut. That should stop the nut from backing off.
I like these videos
For some reason the back screw goes in perfect, but the screw for the front is tight. I can eve. Use the original screws, I have to use the ones they gave me
The screw heads from the originals on my Strat were too big and didn't allow the strap to lock because they sat too high
Will these work just as well on a Gibson Les Paul? Like, is the screw size and thread-spacing the same on a Les Paul?
Simple and straightforward video. Thanks. BUT, FIX your LINKS!
would these work for a none fender guitar?
Is it safe to put a button on that little block under the neck or would that mess up the bass
yall in the comments need to relax about the wrench
Thanks so much 4 the info! Just installed Fender Strap Locks on my Troy Van Leewen Signature ox blood JazzMaster. Love at first sight. Cheers!
Is it safe to drill a hole for a strap lock button on a Fender Fullerton Telecaster Ukelele?
you saved my life
I prefer German made guitar strap locks.
what kind of wax is it? Link pls
+Jörg Dähler Ear Wax
its parafin wax. all candles use it
Fender Schaller buttons and Schaller locks?
Does anyone know if they are compatible?
Thanks
Best regards
Pablo García Yes they are. afaik these are the same products. i know for sure that my schaller locks fit on my Fender Strap Buttons
Yes, they arrived a few days ago and fit on my Schaller.
I chose them in nickel and they are very good.
Thanks
The screws that came with my straplocks are smaller in diameter than my squier strap button screws.
tnx my SDTJ 1000 fell down and broke my floyd rose. Now i can ensure safety
Fender Squire Mustang Bass:
The screws are larger and do not work. I had to use tooth picks to fill the hole gaps and the smaller screws that came in the kit.
If you don't have paraffin wax ordinary soap will do the trick.
very poor design, I have several of these and the ball end nut that you use to attach and remove the strap always comes loose and if it falls off it is a right pain to get the strap off the guitar. Fender need to redesign these, they are not fit for purpose.
Shouldn’t the opening of the strap lock always face up so it can’t come loose at all?
Shouldn’t both locks be spring loaded? I have a set with one lock stuck!... HELP!
Omg these pins arent long enough. My schaller locks on another strap work fine so sticking with schaller
Too thin of bolt for mono straps. Gonna have to improvise.
I guess that he didn't bring his crescent wrench to university class. He will get an "F" for the day. Pretty unprofessional.
Does anyone else have issues with those strap locks? the front one's nut always keeps falling like I almost dropped my awesome duff mcakgans bass gutiar liike 5 times now and I have an aneurysm each time i do. someone please recommend me strap locks that dont do this.
5 times? Yeah...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's on you, not the product...
+Russell Carter I think they meant that the strap button came out while the guitar was on a strap.
Yup. Nut comes loose. These are actually lethal. I've gotten into habit of checking nut everytime I put on the guitar.
Strap button shouldn't come out though.
@@freepadz6241 If the nut loosens, put a little loc-tite on the threads.
Make sure you use the screws that came with the kit!!! My screws off my Yamaha guitar did not work!!! after troubleshooting I found there is a difference video should be edited
We want "Fender" branded nickle plated NAILS...please.
"I don't have a wrench with me but..." -- you're making a fucking video about the installation and you don't have the tools?! **Applause sign**
No, it doesn’t work with any strap. My cheaper model fender strap has a smaller hole than the strap lock hardware
Same thing on my personalized $90.00 leather strap. Had to take a much larger leather punch and enlarge the holes on my strap. This guy don't tell the HOLE story!
Meh, just get some grolschlocks
I literally just tried them like a week ago and they're rock frickin solid on my Epi SG. Wish I'd known this earlier.
Looks exactly like the Kahler one
Paraffin wax...
What if the ball got lost n the lock is stuck
Baseball Nation then your screwed
grab a drill
I call bullshit on that strap. Just installed these on two strats and both times I had to trim the hole on the Fender brand strap.
I guess having a wrench didn’t seem important at the time 😒
Are the same thing with Schaller? I kind a think Fender's are poor made
Don't buy them, mine squeak after i installed them..:(
Put a little spray of gun oil, protects and no more noise
Hahaha! If you knew you were doing a video, why wouldn’t you have a wrench handy?
Or you can just use duct tape
Do u need the wax?
Ember You Can use Solid Soap instead
Ember or a candle
What about if the screw doesn't fit so you use toothpicks with either super glue or wood glue and drill a new hole!
+Neon Rush in the video he says you can use the old screws.
Sahil Mehta he says that. But the screw was to big for the straplock...
At 2.15 he says you could strip the screw inside the body. Sorry mate, you strip the body outside the screw. Does anyone REALLY need a video to show how to do this? And don't forget, YOU get to choose whther to use the white or the black felt washers.
Wot
You have got to be kidding !.
Fender strap locks suck. Failed me after one year of use. Epic fail too.
That wax step seems very very very unncessary lol
It helps guide the screw back into the grooves to avoid crossthreading.
@@j_music_8779 exactly
I wish this video was 39 seconds and just showed how to install strap locks. Came here for a quick piece of information not entertainment.
