For those of us who are idiots, this was an excellent video. I didn't realize how easy this is, so I appreciate that someone slummed down to my level to show me how. Thanks, Fender
hi, great videos! i've a fender champion 40 but their speakers turn distorted at vol 5 and in low tones just break up... im thinking to change speaker, do you think i can get Good Clean sounds with Deep Lows if i replace it? or i just have to change my amp?... thanks your videos are very helpful
2. sometimes it's a good idea to KEEP ONE HAND IN YOUR BACKPOCKET WHEN one is touching wires in some electronic devices where there might be still charge, like a TV, so the current doesn't go through you if you touch something with your other hand that makes a path for current. I am just speaking in a general way, something i learned from a class in el theory and practice long ago. At any rate talk to someone who knows what they are doing, if U have doubts. He says UNPLUG for a purpose:safety.
Yes. Wattage and ohmage. General rule is to go 10 up from the amp wattage. If you have a 40 watt amp, get a 50 watt speaker. All that really matters tho is that the speaker wattage is higher than the amp wattage. The ohmage just has to be what the amp is rated for or higher. Just look at what the ohmage and wattage of the speaker you're changing out is and match it.
@@tommyoriley4174 Thank you for your response. I have replaced my speaker with a new one with a wattage that's almost 2x of the amp wattage. I can't find an 85w, 12 incher.
Fabian Salomonsson This is the same as getting a new cab, the speakers in your cab have nothing to do with your head the only thing they influence each other with is ohms.
Question, my gt10 doesnt sound good with my fender amp, and I was thinking maybe if I change the speakers I could get a better sound for digital pedalboards. what should I buy to replace the 2 x 12 ?
This looks super easy until you realize the gasket on your speaker has adhered to the baffle and requires some force and possibly a pry tool to remove sometimes ruining the gasket if you want to re-use the speaker =)
Also, how do you know that the positive and negative are correct? what happens if I get positive and negative wrong?? I bought my fender second hand and I just never questioned that, I said of course they are correctly plugged, but what if the former owner just confused the black and the white cables?? It is a Fender ultimate chorus (2 x 60watts I think). Is there a way to do something quick and improve their work? I mean, I usually clean potentiometers and pots and things like that with cleaning products and they move cool and clean, but what about the speaker??? I always thought there is little to do to improve the work of a speaker, they are what they are, and if they just start working bad, well that is it.. you have to use them until they stop working eventually. Mine doesnt show any signs of failure, but Is there a way to do something for speakers on a regular maintenance/ cleaning?
I was thinking of getting a new speaker for my amp that comes with a Celestion G12 70 watt 8 ohms speaker. The one I want is a Eminence Governor 75 watt 8 ohms. Would the watts being 5 watts more damage the amp?
No it shouldn't damage it at all! It's the ohms you have to watch. Most cabs have speakers rated higher in wattage than the amplifier to avoid damaging the speakers. Better ask a tech if unsure.
The Governor would be a fine replacement. You just want to make sure the impedance is the same as the original speaker (8 ohms) which it is. Also at the very minimum the wattage of the speaker should match the total output of the amp, so if your amp is a 1x12 and puts out 35 watts you want the speaker to be at least 35 watts. For a 2x12 that puts out 40 watts you would want at least 2 40 watt speakers.
I have a question, i know this is an old video but, say i want to swap out an 80 watt speaker with a 60 watt one. Would that affect my amp? Or is it ohms the only thing that have to match with the old one?
When I unscrew the screws holding the speaker in my deluxe reverb, there are bolts holding them in or something that I don't think I can get off w/o taking off the front grill. Is that right?
How do I identify which speaker is the blown-out one? I have a frontman 212r and it blew out, but I'm not sure which speaker blew out, how do I find out? Also, I have a volume knob problem on a fender 65 r with a constant buzzing, have any advice there?
I have a vibro champ but that one has washers I'm not really sure if it's a front loading one or not I'm not willing to put a flat head at the front of that thing it's way too old for that
that is a nice floor !But, I laughed when I saw on the Celestian speaker:Made in China. Everything just about is now made in China, even retro looking amps? But, OK, I like the idea and sound of 'Fender University,'.. -what college did you go to? - Fender University! Sir. -OK, you can start working on Monday. ; ) SRV they say was always looking about to find & test new speakers & old ones in his neverending quest 4 that special sound, he sought. Funny thing happened to me the other day. I was in my favourite guitar shop and happened to ask for "fuckin tubes". They had every tube you can imagine, but fuckin tubes don't seem to be available any longer.

I love fender yes indeed. American, good guitars, good amps, most in a reasonable price.
lol
Hey dude have a Blessed Day!!!
Hi, do I have to consider the speaker wattage too?
Yes. Wattage and ohmage. General rule is to go 10 up from the amp wattage. If you have a 40 watt amp, get a 50 watt speaker. Size also matters obviously, can't put a 10 inch speaker in a cab for a 12 inch. The screw holes won't match up.

@edmacu You're welcome. And I assume it works good?
@@tommyoriley4174 It works and sounds better than the stock speaker.
Is this really this simply to do or are there any things you have to do after like bias your tubeamp or something like that?

1:43 I’d recommend putting a piece of cardboard under the screwdriver 🪛 before doing that move
"Be careful not to strip it" as his screw driver slips
But what are those tools in your hand that turns the screws and speaker nuts, and where can I get one?
How do you change it on a Blues deluxe reissue?
Did you ever change the speaker?
@@Gabacho yes. I went with an Eminence Canabis Rex. It smooth out the high ends. Worked for me for years.
Hey, I have trouble changing a light bulb. A video like this is a real help for guys like me.
Beautiful Vibro king
Would the same steps apply for a bass amp?

Waaaaay easier than i thought

Most likely yes

Wow this looks incredibly simple. Do speakers just plug in like that on most amps? I have a 6505+ 112 that I want to change the speaker out of.
Wire speaker from some amp are soldered
I have a question, i know this is an old video but, say i want to swap out an 80 watt speaker with a 60 watt one. Would that affect my amp? Or is it ohms the only thing that have to match with the old one?
If your amp output is 60 or less, it's fine. Keep the speaker watts above that of the amp. Match the ohms.
When I unscrew the screws holding the speaker in my deluxe reverb, there are bolts holding them in or something that I don't think I can get off w/o taking off the front grill. Is that right?
What should i do if the screw holes dont lone up with speakers

+Ivan Zora The one not giving any output should be the one blown out, I guess.
Hi, I can't take the back plate off my Fender Mustang 1, I removed all the screws but it seems glued on. Any tips? Thanks
just get like a scalpel or somthing thin. jam it into to the left or right side and make sure its in there good but not to deep. pry slowly
Is the white wire the positive? on fender speakers, this is not indicated-
He should try it with a hot rod deluxe, you can't take out the speaker unless you remove all the amplification unit
