Watching this before I go to bed, then I get a relaxed song in my head, and dreaming of snowboarding just makes me so damn happy to wake up to. thanks for this!
"i just want to ride - any tips?" Yup, every run just try playing around with a couple butters. You'll figure you what flows good and what doesn't. Start em all off at slow speeds and then slowly do em while going faster and faster. Good luck!
Worked great on about 6"-8" of average snow starts to struggle a bit past 8". ruclips.net/user/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN Very light weight and the chute spin control works well. For the low price you get a ton of value. My only complaint is managing the cord as it does take a fair bit of effort to watch and pull the cord out of the way. I found myself having to whip the cord out of the way a lot when I needed to make one way passes to mange the blow direction. It's less of an issue when you can work both directions. A battery powered version would be a lot easier to handle but that is also double the price and requires battery care. I chose the corded version so I didn't have to worry about batteries but I do now see how much work the cord is. I let my neighbor borrow it and it outperformed his smaller gas blower, he was totally sold. Very pleased with the power and operations. My only suggestion is to spend a bit more on a cordless version if you have budget for it. The cord is a bit more of a headache than I thought it would be. Very pleased with the Snow Joe brand and quality.
This was my daily warm up video as I was preparing to ride my first season and I have a huge soft spot for this tune with watching again. Seven winters later and subscribing has progressed my riding no end. Much love Ryan.
Howzit Ryan! Wanted to thank you for your videos. They really are a motivational kick! Also, just wanted to let you know that your channel has inspired a number of my mates to look into a deeper and in essence much more fun approach to snowboarding - from buttering on flat to carving and mastering switch. I'm a snowboarding instructor and with the help of your videos love to show those "wise guys" who think there nothing more to learn that in fact there is tons more to master! THANKS!
I amd 32 years old and this was my first (half)season and I am in love with the snowboarding. I was looking as some clips in RUclips and I came upon this video and it made me love the snowboarding even more. I've already watched it more than 100 time and I love it. Thanks Ryan for making me want to be like you :)
Ryan, you have an amazing ride style :) Your style is my reference points. Thanks for the nice videos and for the well know music from Enya ;) Some followers ask the song name. The song is My my! Time flies! from Enya The time for Enya flies, our Ryan board flies so smoothly :D
I use the PXC 450's mostly (those I got for free). I have another over the ear one that is real sweet too... forget the model # but it was a $99 set. Best snowboarding accessory I've ever bought! Waaay better than all the other headphones I've used.
One of my goals this season is to learn how to incorporate your style of riding into my own. I have my old Burton Dragon (pre-Custom X) that I'll need to pull out of the archive to get some carving going on.
This board was a 156. Went to a 159 X wide last year. Was a bit too stiff with being a wide... so on a Custom 158W now, which is my favorite board ever. :)
Thanks for the compliment. I really don't have a favorite... in each video there's usually some shots that are my favorite tho. Also I like the FX versions I make (even tho most people seem not to like em as much)... For me the colors just look interesting and unique.
I'd like to congratulate with you...your rinding is amazing and can't stop to watch this vid on my mobile phone...every morning from a year almost!!! Oh my god I realized right now you uploaded other thousands of vids...great job!!!
somewhat... it's just a different weight distribution between super flexy and super stiff. flexier can make learning em easier I guess though cuz you can do them at lower speeds and it doesn't take as much force.. but at higher speeds, stiffer can actually feel better.
People who wonder what's impressive in this video have probably never done snowboard doing THIS and making it looks so fcnkg easy needs lots of talent and control. Thumbs up man!
Last year I was on the 158W regular Custom. I squeeze into size 8.5 boots, and still end up having toe and heel drag on that board... but thats with really getting deep into some carves. For most people it wouldn't be a problem. My weight is around 210 during the shred season.
OMG I SAW THIS 10 YEARS AGO!! It was one of my all time fav snowboard vids for a time because I never heard of buttering. I immediately fell in love with doing this while snowboarding. Super fun. Can't believe this video popped in my feed. Also what a coincidental song considering it's been 10 years since I saw this.
I crank the bindings as tight as possible. And b4 dropping in the pipe I always try to get that last extra click out of em. I try to center the stance on the board... if its not I'm always pretty close to it. Yeah, this board was a 156. The last 2 years I was on a 159W and then a 158W last year. I'm 5-10 and weight 210. Hope that helps, good luck!
Thanks. I had fun making this and my other vids. I really don't know my stance width. It's a bit wider now than it is in this video... its not the widest possible option, but its not too far from it. Try taking it to both extremes, too wide, too narrow, and you'll find your happy spot somewhere in between.
Ryan, thanks for your videos and the inspiration to go back up there each time and push yourself a bit further toward the perfect riding you demonstrate!
@PashaRuswe I take anything hard and rub it on the edges of the board on the ends down 1 inch past the widest part of the nose and tail. A side of a screwdriver, rock, whatever works. Just to make that part of the edge not sharp and catchy.
I gotta say, every time someone asks me "what is buttering?" I get on youtube to show them videos. Never fails, I always end up showing your videos! You make it look so easy and fun! Maybe one day I can get that good! Props
WOW! This is just Art on a Snowboard :) Never saw sombody butter so smooth & beautiful! Accomplished by the great music made me watch it more then 10 times lol! Teach me master :)
cometh the winter, cometh the watching of RyanKnapton's vids :) Hey Ryan - you're a lot smoother these days, so can you look back at these vids and recognize what you were doing 'wrong'?
Its a Burton Custom X 156. I really like the Customs and Custom X's, but most any board can work for this stuff. A softer board may help for making some buttering tricks easier at lower speeds, and a stiffer board (Custom X) will help keep the board from being too noodly at higher speeds.
I don't know a damn thing about the Burton Joystick. But I do know you are watching these vids close enough to already know some of the buttering combo's that flow together smoothly. :) Very nice. Happy Shredding Bro.
Yeah, at 145 lbs I'd def suggest a softer board than the Custom X. It's killer board for pipe, riding real fast and such, but for all around playfulness I'd def suggest the Custom or something even softer. And indeed if you can get to a demo or something, trying em out and seeing what you like is the best option.
Yo, I think that older CX should be perfect. The wide one is too stiff, but regular width was perfect for me. And yeah, the rocker boards scare me too! Instead of having one solid edge in, they felt like I could catch either edge at any time.
I'm 5-10 210lbs. I ride a wide version of the Custom and Custom X now so that I can get the board on a steeper edge without hitting toes or heels (size 8.5 boots). For the wide I like the Custom better, but the regular width, I like the X better. Mostly its just a matter of playing around on your board and getting to know exactly how hard to lean or press. A brand new X wide is stiff as heck tho.
I have the same board (2011 custom X) but never have quite done it justice like you sir. 7/10 board stiffness, 10/10 boarding. Best way i can describe that board is like using a Wustof knife through butter. That board carves so well, sticks to snow like spiderman to walls.
Personally I like Camber way better. But I know some great riders who love the Custom Flying V too. Both the 154 and 156 will work great for you, so indeed a difficult choice. If there is any Burton Demo's you can make it to, try both or all 4 and that would be the best way to know. Either way tho, all of those are great options, and I'm sure you'll love the board. Good luck!
Great video. I'm want to start learning flat-land tricks this year and this video is really inspiring to watch. Good riders just make it look so effortless!
+freshmode5050 Thanks for writing. Man, when I edited it up and released it I really thought it was special. :). It actually didn't get as much views right away as some of my others around then, but this was my fav. And it's now by far my most popular! (In a way too bad cuz I can't earn anything in it cuz of the music.... But it is what it is. Check out tomorrow mornings 'Smooth Snowboarding 5.0'. Short but sooo sweet IMO. Happy shreddin!
Watched your vids over and over loving your skills. Massive respect! Heading to breck on the 2nd and hoping for some snowfall so i can try to pull off 1% of what you do. Keep up the good work !
IM NEW TO THE WORLD OF SNOWBOARDING. THIS WILL BE MY 3RD SEASON. YOUR VIDEO WAS GREAT! I NOW WANT TO LEARN HOW TO BUTTER. IT LOOKS HARD BUT FUN. THANKS
Hey Ryan, I'm pretty sure I saw you at Breck 2 weekends ago. The second I saw you blazing down Sundown I recognized your style. Keep having a blast out there.
Sweet butter tricks, I like the speed you carry as well, not all slow... which takes lots of skill as well just looks better with speed. So cool tip grabs, great video quality. Makes me hunger for winter. Keep on buttering. RL
Poetry in motion. People who wonder what's so special about snowboarding need to watch this.
Song is groovy too 😆
Here comes the time of the year when I will watch this video over and over again
For me, this is still the most inspirational Snowboarding vid online. The backing track is perfect.
This is art. Absolutely beautiful. You have no idea how much you inspire this 43-year old.
Well said, definitely an inspiration. 39 year old..
@@Dame.- this I inspired me so much that after 5 years I still hum this song whenever I snowboard.
@@3DxPOD that is awesome bro, I actually got to see Ryan shredding live while vacationing in Breckenridge last year
You’re my age (49 now) and I’m definitely spending my time learning this in two weeks. Les Deux Alpes here we come!
Three years since I first saw this, and it's *still* my favourite snowboarding video on RUclips. I just love it! Thanks RK.
Think I've watched it like 3000 plus times and told everyone I know to watch it.
@@Max_Snellink skills ... 10 years of ride and stills watchin this and mount sims - how we do :D

The fine line of keeping the downhill edge up. I still catch an edge once in awhile tho.
This was my daily warm up video as I was preparing to ride my first season and I have a huge soft spot for this tune with watching again. Seven winters later and subscribing has progressed my riding no end. Much love Ryan.

The Rodney Mullen of snowboarding :)
All he has to do is figure out how to tailblock spin... That's some "Rodney Mullen of snowboarding" material
Just spent 3 days in the slopes... this video makes me want to snowboard more than ever. So much joy! Awesome!

Your butters are so graceful. By far the fast buttering vid on RUclips. I can't stop watching this vid.
This is the reason why Enya is in my head when I start to turn :D
I had an ear to ear grin that whole video. Pure art. So stoked for this season my dudes.

@JasonFLV in that vid its a 156. Currently I'm riding a 159W. Not quite as playful, but good for highspeed stuff and laying turns sideways.
@PashaRuswe I take anything hard and rub it on the edges of the board on the ends down 1 inch past the widest part of the nose and tail. A side of a screwdriver, rock, whatever works. Just to make that part of the edge not sharp and catchy.
u rock ! i watched your old vid over 100 times with this endless nose and tail spins, and the new one is even better !

i love this video and his music, you ride with soul, great, i watch it every day. Have a nice ride from Rome, Italy.
Makes sense. Interesting fact for ya. Even Dimmu Borgir lists Enya as a musical influence (can be found on wikipedia). No wonder I like both.
SNOWBOAD BALLET , that the only word I can find to describe this .... something different and precise we see here !!! Amazing...................
I have very sharp edges indeed. Key is to just make sure your downhill edge is always up. I have some tutorials coming soon.
I've been watching this video since it came out and it's still amazing. Seems there's no one else near your level. Keep it up!! I love your vids

very high level of control - the fine art of snowboarding :>

I've watched this video 20 times! Love it man
