The best thing is probably when you really tame your brain, and your dopamine receptors after a long period of time restart. That is always amazing to me, nofap is real. People who hate on us or defend porn just fell into that ("porn is okay") pit and don't know how unhealthy it is for them, because they are in it since a young age and don't know how to get out of it or even don't want to try it.
I think that anything can be abused and create addiction. I don't think anything is inherently bad, but doing things or using things to a point where it's effecting other parts of your life is problematic and it's good when people come together (no pun intended) to take a break from that activity and reflect on their actions. NNN is really the only outlet someone with an addiction like this could actually get some help I think. There's not battered meat shelters like there's battered women shelters for women who are addicted to pissing off their husbands. Probably why sober October didn't catch on as much, because there's all these groups for alcoholics and drug addicts to go to that they can find support at.
I think porn / masturbating makes me happier and gives me positive energy. But it only works if I work for it. Like take my time, at least 45min and put energy into it and really savor it and make sure it's a nice and satisfying experience for my dick as well as my emotions.
If you get off in like 5 minutes that's when it becomes addictive and negative. Because you get a little dopamine hit for free and your lizard brain makes you want to do it over and over even though it's not really a good experience. And porn makes that compulsion even stronger. If you get trapped in that porn and masturbation can be a very negative influence and I'm sorry for anyone who's trapped in this negative behaviour pattern.
Nothing good comes for free. But if you take your time and put effort in masturbation can really be a positive experience and a part of taking care of yourself.
The porn you watch can also have a huge impact on how the masturbation affects you. If the vibes are off emotionally in the porn that's also gonna rub off on you a lot, especially after you cum. There's a huge sense of satisfaction that comes when you realize that semen retention is no longer a challenge or an experiment, but it's become your chosen sexual state, and that there's no reason for that to change (short of some possible future marriage, anyway, if that's what you want). Far from seeming desexualized, nothing feels more masculine than living full of semen and testosterone.

Update: Day 15 going strong, I've been way more productive recently. I was one of the first people to finish my Global Econ Exam yesterday lol easy af. I just feel all around more virile.

I believe the benefits of abstaining are correlative but not causal. @dr.c6260 something I've found helps qheb you're working on abstaining from something is to look at it as a percentage, rather than a streak.
So one could say, "I was on a 4 month streak, but I broke it. Now I'm back at 3 days." And that type of language is defeating.
Or one could say, "Yea, out of the last 4 months, I'm at a 98% rate for days without fapping." which is uplifting language. Just because we break a streak, doesn't mean the purpose of abstaining is suddenly in the bin.

I'm sick of all of these channels that show montage style interviews where I'm fairly certain it's edited in a way that inaccurately represents people's answers to make them seem dumber and/or crazier to push a narrative. It seems like it'd be extra effort for no reason to have that sort of format otherwise.
I didn't really notice any difference the time I did nofap for about 4 months due to having a roommate. As far as I can tell it's probably a placebo and I suppose I never doubted my ability to do it in the first place since it pretty much happened accidentally. My guess would be that the biggest impact is breaking porn addiction, and that it's not fapping which is the problem, or even the porn, but rather the addiction.
