    I would never consider Morrissey a wimp in any way. He's actually quite brave how he's laid his soul out for us to dissect.

      True and he was very young here. Very honest even though you can tell he felt uncomfortable I think the interviewer was certainly trying to goad him.

      Then after some years, he would hardly mention them or wouldn't want to reunite.
      I don't think he would refer them as his friends anymore as he met many other people he would prefer to be his company, but that's just my personal observation.

    • @quentintarantulino8535
      @quentintarantulino8535 3 года назад +32

      @@percyap4271 It was a shtick he did in the early days of the Smiths. I think Morrissey longed for that sort of gang mentality, and he wanted the Smiths to present an us-versus-the-world image. But the truth is that he was only friends with Johnny, and merely friendly with the other two. Mike and Andy have always stated that they barely knew him at all, and that they were rather intimidated by his 'artsy' circle of friends. In one interview Gannon recalled how after each show, he'd be so excited that he'd "get hold of Morrissey and swing him around in a celebratory bear hug. Mike and Andy would never dare do that". Check out 'Inside the Smiths', even if fans already know most of the stuff in it anyway, it's still pretty insightful.

    Its sad to hear him talk about how fond he is of his fellow Smiths knowing how it panned out for him in relation to them fifteen years from this interview. He loved them and they sued him for what was rightfully his (and Johnny's of course.) To think the Smiths will reunite ever again is ludicrous. They hurt Morrissey to the core and it can never be fixed.

    Analysis of this and interviews with Marr it is apparent to me that Morrissey and Marrs are quiet polar opposites. Morrissey certainly embraced his femininity and was open about controversial topics and wrote lyrics that Marr openly admits to not caring for, effectively embarrassing Marr to the point of humiliation. Marr on the other hand is on the opposite end of the spectrum, to the point of exhibiting Toxic Masculinity at points, which says nothing, really, but of their upbringing and what the relationships with their parents were like, nor does it imply that either or are a villian of any kind. However what I am implying is that perhaps the clash of two largely different, profound personalities each with their own vision, was surely why they will never reunite? I mean forgive me if everyone else already made this realization. It occurs to me often how tragic it is that they spilt. Such a shame they can't set aside their differences. I am thankful they both still continue to share their talent with us as solo artists, though for me, the magic was in the 4 of them together, each perfectly complimenting one another, at least musically -All the Best, Always

    When he described going for walks in the previous part of this interview he could have been describing my life growing up. I was so terribly lonely. I would walk around town just to get out of the house. I was so sad. I can sing exactly like him btw. If anyone doesnt believe me. Ill post a video of me playong a smiths song. I have always been so deeply heartbroken even as a child. I remember being 4 or 5 and walking into a construction site because even my mother didnt care for me. I guess thats one difference between morrissey and myself is his mother seemed to dote ob him. My mother seemed to despise me.

    • @babyyoucanridemybike

      At age 11 i would wonder off in the winter, lay down in the snow and watch the clouds. I always was so alone that i walked in the woods and through the streets just to get out of my head or whatever. I would feel like my heart and head was overheating sitting around and i just would walk and think about how everyone made fun of me a school and how perfectly lovely the neighbor girl was. I thought my family was poor because my mother couldnt be bothered to buy me achool clothes or even dinner! Christmas was always such a letdown. I thought that the things i wanted must just be way out of her ability to afford. All the other kids seemed to get video games and guitars so easily. Turbs out my mom and her husband just didnt care to spend a dime on us. Whenever i would ask for something at a store her answer was always the same... " Do you have enough money for it?" I feel like crying whenever i think about those days. The pain inside that i would try to walk off is the same pain that led me to write songs. I wish i would have gotten the recognition that Morrissey has gotten or even just some recognition. I think my failure at life has much to do with my expectations in life being so low from being raised by a mother who made it seem as if everything i wamted or needed waa simply out of my reach.

    Nicky Horne was being quite invasive here with Morrissey. I can see why Van Morrison walked out on him mid interview back in the late seventies. He was not going to let Nicky Horne act like a psychiatrist.

    Interesting that you said we are kindred because i never had any intellectual, emotional or physical connection sexual or not with any woman ever.(I am a guy)
    I only had such connections with men only,Morrissey been one.I have zero identification with women as a gender group or individually but that doesnt prevent me from sharing similar opinions or values(though superficially) with one.

    I agree with you.I dont think i am gay, just assexual.I dont like women physically, emotionally or intelectually but i dont like men sexually,i just have an emotional and intelectual link with them.I dont know if that is platonic homoerotic longing or something,i dont think so.Its just an assexual, nonerotic connection like many men and women as well experiment in relation to the same sex

      Bea Livingstone He's written about past relationships, 'Miserable Lie' being a fine example, as the affair left him extremely unhappy. I remember reading he had sex for the first time when 14, which contributed to his decision of celibacy.
      Of the few relationships he's had, only one gave him particular satisfaction, in his late 20s I believe with another man.
      “Jake and I neither sought nor needed company other than our own for the whirlwind stretch to come…for the first time in my life the eternal ‘I’ becomes ‘we’ as, finally, I can get on with someone”
      This was after the records he released with The Smiths however. His songs with the band are largely about a longing for love and satisfaction, or brief instances of such feelings, rather than his own experiences.
