In my small town we had 3 guitar shops. We hung around them all day. Now they are gone. Your channel is like hanging around a guitar shop. It fills that void. So when you say this video is getting too long i say not even close.
Same here except we only had one shop called Grandpa’s Guitars . I still have most of the instruments I bought there in the 90’s. Still have most of the memories too. Never found another place like it again though and the only store we have around here now is a Guitar Center 30 min drive away.
Not only do we get to see you perform, learn from you, get to know you but we see where you came from and the TOTALL RESPECT you are afforded from so many people. You, BY FAR, have the best and most personal video's on youtube. PLUS THE FACT, as good as you are you have no ego. JUST SO down to earth. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU GIVE BACK!
Jeff built a beautiful Pomona for me in 2013- a few years later I was in Nashville for a weekend and called and asked if I could drop it off for him to look at - I could pick up another time. He insisted to take a look that Saturday at the guitar- I went back to pick it up and he invited me to join Jeff and Chris for sushi. Jeff has some stories! And he is an incredible player! Thanks Tom- have been waiting for this one! ❤
Uncle Larry always gets to the heart of the matter very nicely. Most folks don't ask hardly any questions much less the right ones. Unc has an innate gift for doing this.
IMHO...Jeff Senn gets it...and so does our dear Uncle Larry...and thanks man, for sharing 'it' with all of us, and never talking to us homeskoolers like we're beneath you...what a ride with you Tom, it's amazing...
Uncle Larry letting us pal around with you to meet all these fantastic people is such a wonderful gift. Learned so much about guitars and guitar making in this video. What also becomes clear is that you surround yourself with dear, good people life Mr Senn. You add that to your unbelievable musical chops...well, how could you not be one of the "creme de la creme"? Thanks for bringing us along.
These videos that have chats and tours with your friends are so cool. Two regular dudes drinking beers and talking guitars. It just doesn’t get better than this…..until your next video. Jeff seems like a super nice guy and as always I learned a few things. A guy that can work at his own pace doing what he loves to do and has a gift for it, man it has to be the best thing in this life other than wife and kids. Love this stuff!!!!!
In the surf world I am very familiar with Jeff, myself having been in a surf band 5-6 years ago in the same relative circuit.. (there's only so many surf bands playing the same surf festivals) but this was a true treat to finally get a glimpse inside the mind of this great builder and player who seems to have as much mystique about him as his instruments do. What an awesome soul, one of my favorite Homeskoolin' vids yet. Thanks Tommy
Hey Tom - thanks taking us home skoolers on you’re magical field trips . Such a lovely interview . Sharing of the hearts and souls of hardworking gifted humans.
Once I discovered Jeff, he was the only guy I took my guitars to. Spent hours there, mostly talking. The best guy. Terrific player as well. Great to hear you guys jawing.
What a sweet guy! And again, what a privilege to get to know him a bit here!! Thanks so much UL!! That natural color head rest on the bench looked like the ones LMI used to sell. They stopped selling them before I could get one.. regrets. I'd love to work in a small shop like that. Broken back, all tools, 55 years experience. LOL 8) --gary
Speaking of cabs. Have you guys seen how Jeff Beck used to stack his 4x12’s in the late 60’s? He had angle cabs on the bottom and upside down angle cabs on top. There are photos of it.
Thoroughly enjoyed this conversation, certain guitars are magic, there are times I know I hit clams physically but my guitar somehow covered my ass audibly. That's a true friend
Hey Tom, I took a tele body from a a cheap squire, sanded it, contoured it , cool paint job, put a Warmoth neck and some Hot Rails on it. Turned out to be the best guitar I've ever had. Maybe because I put it together. Don''t know. But like Jeff said...It sounds good to me. Jeff seems like an extra good dude. Awesome video.
The quality and insight of the recent videos has been outstanding, love that you dont know what is going to come up next, one in the studio, next guitar from the kitchen , thanks, very much appreciated
I believe reversing the polarity on the speaker affects the attack since the initial speaker movement is in the opposite direction. When you hit the strings you want the speaker to compress the air in front of it. If you reverse wire it, you're creating a vacuum in front of the speaker on the attack so it's not initially compressing the ear drum in front of it.
Thanks Tom for a great interview.. In a world of mass produced crap it is always inspiring to hear guys like Jeff talk so passionately about this art. You know every instrument he has built has his heart and soul in it.. Cool to see inside this instrument. This instrument brings out the best in you. A really special guitar.
This. Was. Wonderful! I have one of Jeff’s bridges on my 6-12 Dano. It transformed the 6 into a VERY USEABLE tool! Thank you both for the wonderful hang!
With lacquer also don't use rubber guitar hangers, unless you put cloth over the hanger. I absolutely love the sound of Jeff's guitars, Jedd Hughs demoed his Tele many years ago and I was hooked.
I had a really nice long comment about this channel but it wouldn't post. Long story short. You can't have such a high quality of circle of friends without being that quality yourself😊 I've got Lollartrons in a Nash Telemaster and now ya got me thinkin FAT Thanks Jeff Thanks Tom 🤙🙏
its a rare treat to be able to listen to such a humble knowledgeable straight shooter these days that doesn't give off a single hint of trying to push or uptalk anything.
I love the way a Murphy lab R9 looks and since it would take me too many years to get the look of a old original 59 that was toured with it is the perfect option.
What a Homeskoolin' gem. Thank you, Tom, and thank you, Jeff. 'Driving, repairing, restoring, designing, and building' -- are each a special and unique world and talent. To be able to meet a humble human who sees, hears, feels, understand, and gets them all, especially relative to one another -- that's very rare, and exceptional. What a beautiful Homeskoolin' experience.
Man I remember hearing about him on TGP like 15 years ago. I wish I picked up one of his builds back then, but I was mainly a Les Paul guy at the time. Maybe one day I’ll finally score a used one.
It's the Export Marshall amps that have 220 AND 110 v primary windings.. The "fuse" is a selector that you remove and insert to change for 110 or 220 wall voltage
The Relicing craze started with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Stratocaster. Everyone wanted their strat to look like that but they didn't want to wait 30 years. The secret to relicing is knowing when to stop. I have an idea for a business. Refinishing all the Reliced guitars after the craze has ended
Genius idea. :) Btw, if you're still contemplating a Morgan amp (noted in a previous comment thread), perhaps worth checking out the Morgan videos by Psionic Audio (= Lyle Caldwell)? Food for thought, anyway.
@@erajad thanks man yes I saw that video. Definitely got me thinking. Somebody's comment said that amp could possibly have been a prototype. I always check psionic Out.
@@stringlocker Agreed! And there are quite a few bubbles to be burst. :) But equally (IMO), that's effective because he's essentially fair-minded, and simply says what he sees. I've learned loads from his channel.

What a sweet, sweet guy. When you're honest and genuine like that, you never have a thing to worry about. Yet another sweetheart friend. Fits a pattern doesn't it?
Jeff's an old pal from here in Buffalo, New York where we worked in different music stores. He was a stellar tech and still is, and a righteous guy. Now I'll never get him to build me a tele after you show him off ! Lol.
Tom, love this episodes where you introduce us homeskoolers to these extraordinary guys... Jeff's work is amazing. I would love to, one day, own an Original Senn guitar although I'm probably not worthy of owning such a masterpiece of an instrument...
Wow! Jeff's wearing a tshirt from my friend Brian Kenney's record shop in Tacoma, WA! Too cool! And that looks like a shop I would love to hang out in for a while, nice video Uncle Larry, thanks as always for what you do.

This was FASCINATING! Great tip about lacquer and vinyl .. now we know where all those marks come from :) I'm getting on Jeff's mailing list today. Thanks!
Oh my god do I wish we could see Jeff work more on that guitar or just guitars in general! Such nice guys both of you. Thanks for letting us in on this type of stuff Tom :)
uh-oh - I'm guessing the wait time just quadrupled for one of Jeff's guitars! Tom - in your hands that Senn Strat really shined in the shoot-out and made me want one bad. I really enjoyed Jeff's Truetone Lounge video, he gave a great feel for how he came to build, and do it for individual players. For the bread'n'butter pickers (like me), maybe Eastwood could fab an Uncle Larry-caster?
That was the most enjoyable, insightful video. What a modest, thoughtful man. Though pretty much all of the detail went over my head, there's something wonderful about an honest, inquisitive conversation between two obvious experts / fans of music. Kudos and humble thanks to Uncle Larry (great interviewer) and Jeff Senn.
I enjoy a light to medium relic’d guitar, as long as it feels and sounds good. Thanks for sharing this, always a great insight as to what makes a great guitar.
Great video! Love these "informative" video you have been doing, lots of great insight into some great guitars. I really like Jeff's attitude and philosophy, real and down to earth, just like Uncle Larry. Thanks again.
Per my comment on your Tuesday Strat video where you demonstrated your 3 Strats, including the Senn, you misunderstood my comment - THE SENN was my FAVORITE :). This is neat to see.

that's a beautiful soul right there. what a legend. the cats in your pack are cool as hell tom. forever grateful of your contributions
It’s a musical fact that white strats sound “creamy” and aged yellow starts have a “buttery” sound.
I think you’re right. My aqua marine metallic Strat sounds like playing steel drums under water. 🤘
What a great guy Jeff Senn is. So interesting to hear his take on guitars.
