W211 LED Ghost Shadow Projector Puddle Lights Retrofit

- Here I am showing the process that I took to custom retrofit some amazon Led “Ghost Shadow Lights”, more professionally known as puddle lamps, that project the Mercedes-Benz logo on the floor when you open the door. This was done on a 2008 E350 Mercedes-Benz.
They do not make these specifically for W211 due to the inability to remove the old lights housings because they are soldered in. So you will not find ones for W211 online, I trimmed some made for a W203.
Due to the constantly changing availability and revision of parts on amazon.com, I am unable to post the EXACT part I used as I ordered these in 2018 and debated weather I was even going to post the video as it’s not a perfect install. The exact seller/ link I used to buy mine it not available anymore. Any ghost shadow lights around this size will probably fit in this big pocket. You can see in the video it’s pretty large and SHOULD work with many different ones. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause..though:👇🏼
This is the closest thing I found to what I used, it’s for w203, so I should be the same size but the logo is a little different: www.amazon.com/dp/B07X6MFYF9/...

Bro ik your videos are old and you probably not reading this but your videos are really helpful bro never take these videos down
Does it matter which wires go to which?
Could you please tell me what lamps you used for the interior??
at 6:15 please what is the new cable code called? i am talking about the new connector.
Do they automatically show any logo of a car when installed or u have to buy one tht goes wit a car
🔥
Is there a way to have only the door light on without the interior lights
Not that I know of. I notice the puddle lamps turn off or dim when the interior light switch is turned off..
@@MercedesTech yeah I noticed as well on my w203 , but it seems it’s in every model
How can you tell which is positive and negative and which wire to solder
Trial and error if it’s not marked. Just touch the wires to each side with the headlights on to see which polarity works
Do they flash or drain the battery when doors are closed???
They do not
Brother can you explain how you did the wiring to make the light work
I soldered the lights connections to the ribbon cables solder joints to get power and just left the old housing with no bulb in it. Then tucked it back out of the way
Mercedes Tech, is there a way to wire them instead of soldering?
Unfortunately not. As you can see in the video, the original wiring isn’t wiring, it’s a ribbon cable that you cant just strip. Soldering is what seams to be the easiest method
@@choselife1yes their is mine came with plugs one end fits in ground and negative of 204 shadow lights and the other end has to pins just oush the two pins under metal part soldier works best though real easy
@@robertehlers4330yes sir…I appreciate it.
It appears as if you did an LED conversion for your headlights as well if I'm not mistaken ?
Channel 8 Yes! Headlights, Fog Lights, Running Lights, Interior Lights and License Plate Lights 👍🏼
@@MercedesTech may I ask where you got those bulbs ?
@@Channel8eight Pretty much every bulb and lighting Ive installed to my w211 in these videos have come from amazon. Most videos have links in the description.
Mercedes Tech how is it going ? You get any error from these ? My w203 is a whole error machine ...
@@norimeshau7638 Mine still work as well as the day I installed them. No fading and no errors.
Thats alot of work lol! I wanna do that, but I just put blue bulbs in there instead. But they don't come on for some reason? Must be a setting. I've got underglow also so I'm not too worried about it. Its on my RUclips.
Did you figure it out, usually ties to on off switch near the mirror
@floridaman5125 nah I couldn't find direct fit ones, so I never did. I just changed the color of the bulb n called it a day🤷♂️
@@1ohmwrecker I ended up buying them for my wife’s car last night, that at least helped with the itch. It will have to do!
@floridaman5125 well lmk how it turns out!
I Anya’s wanted this, just not handy enough to do all this.
Man i wish i knew how to do all that door panel stuff and the wiring.. i might just go ahead and but the ones that stick on the door panel but makes the interior look bad.. or might see if anyone can do it for me lol! Let me know if you offer that service
Yea. It helps if you can solder, it’s pretty simple. I’ll probably make another video showing more in-depth how to wire it in and maybe another on the basics of soldering
@@MercedesTech make one to show soldering
@@robertehlers4330 like just general how to solder or soldering for this particular job?
@@MercedesTech on this job I have sos problems now which messes up radio and holescreen worked perfect last week. Ugh I not paying them to fix a problem. Now I hear of have to buy bypass loops hellllp lol
Wait so you can’t remove the original light? You have to solder the projector on?
Yes, the bulbs housing is soldered to the ribbon cable door harness. Would need to solder, this is why they don’t make the projectors for this body style
wassup with the Led license plate bulbs ??
I show how to replace the license plate housing in another video. There is instructions on how to replace the bulbs in there though
Mercedes Tech I know how but what kind do you have on yours
@@uzzle21 Theres a link in the description of that video.
Yeah, way too much trouble 😂
Imagine if it dies short after installing.
Damm I got 2004 es320 dude said they just plug up
May very well be different for a 2004. That is a pre-facelift w211. My facelifted ‘08 has ribbon cables which are like this. Pull one out and see what you have
@Mercedes Tech Damm it's got the glass fuse like his
Yea i did it idremeled and soldered to the ribbon cable and used the black sticky stuff
For anyone doing these...The image will last about a year before burnin will make you change the filament that hold the projection that shows on the ground, if you don't change them the image will simply fade into a round circle light on the ground. I change my lens about everyone 9 months.
Wayne McAlister really? I installed these almost 2 years ago and they’re all good. The door is open for only a few seconds, so they’re only I. For a few seconds at a time. I recorded this video in June of 2018 but didn’t decide to post until a few months ago
@@MercedesTech I'm not saying in any way shape or form for anyone NOT to do it...I think it was a great addition to my car and everyone I know and come across love it...every valet digs them, so I fully say go for it by all means. It might be the brand I used at the time and because I'm use to it...I simply swap them out and never think about it. I'm just saying what my experience with that style of product.
The most important part and you skipped it! Thanks
Im sorry to hear that, which part are you referring to? The soldering of the wires to give it power? I just showed how to make these fit and made a comment in the video of what to solder to where. Pretty self explanatory.
For God sake people get someone to hold the camera for you
You always have to assume when you do these "how to" videos that every single individual who watches it will be interested in the exact item you installed. Nobody wants to google search and risk buying something that looks similar but performs differently. Please stop posting these videos without any product links. It's really not helpful if you provide all the info and nobody has any idea what product you actually used.
Yama Fanboy I do assume exactly that, which is why in my other videos I post what parts I used and am willing to find the updated parts for people upon request when the old sales/links EXPIRE. The EXACT seller and parts link I used is no longer valid on amazon. I do not have the link to post but as I’ve stated over and over, I used the ones made for w203. The pocket in the door panel however SHOULD be able to accommodate any size. It’s custom my guy, not production perfect ✌🏼
@@MercedesTech I'm trying to upgrade to LEDs and your parklight bulb video for the W211 has no links... the video is also inconclusive since the leds don't work. Now in this video you also posted no link. You started off REALLY strong with the projector low beam retrofit.
Yama Fanboy I apologize for the lack of links in that video. Some of these videos have over 20k views and this is the first time someone mentioned no link. I will search amazon for the same products and post what I know of the same thing for this video and the other one! I am also putting together the video for all of the interior bulbs, I’ll be sure to attach links for that one too. It’s just hard, as I just had someone the other day say the Headlight bulbs link is expired so...
