That's probably because they are familiar with some key vocabulary used by each other from an every day or occasional basis by living together. Apart from that, there was a lot of gesturing and some words used were basically the English word as certain languages have no vocabulary of their own for that word.

This is so great for me to practice my language skills! I minored in German in college and I studied abroad in Korea in high school. I'm excited to see how much I actually remember from each language.
I'm only a few minutes in and this is the best thing I've ever seen. I love that they have two different languages and two different cultures. I think it's such a cool and beautiful thing. Also love that they are fluent in their languages

Korean consists of like 60% loan words from Chinese, so in a way its more like half Chinese (not really, since the frequency of Chinese loan words is less than the percentage in actual sentence, and the sentence structure and grammar are extremely different). The English loan words really only apply to South Korean also. In the North Korean dialects, English loan words will be almost unexistent.
Officially only 2.3% of the Korean dictionary are direct English loan words, and (including that 2.3%) only 5.5% are influenced by English. Maybe it's just that where I live, there's a high percentage of people who grow up speaking multiple languages I agree it is a gift, and learning languages when you're older is hard! I'm 14 and German grammar is killing me!
