That's probably because they are familiar with some key vocabulary used by each other from an every day or occasional basis by living together.
Apart from that, there was a lot of gesturing and some words used were basically the English word as certain languages have no vocabulary of their own for that word.

Not really. Korean consists of like 60% loan words from Chinese, so in a way its more like half Chinese (not really, since the frequency of Chinese loan words is less than the percentage in actual sentence, and the sentence structure and grammar are extremely different). The English loan words really only apply to South Korean also. In the North Korean dialects, English loan words will be almost unexistent.

Officially only 2.3% of the Korean dictionary are direct English loan words, and (including that 2.3%) only 5.5% are influenced by English.
      (source : stdict.korean.go.kr/statistic/dicStat.do)
(Fun fact : Korean has loan words or mixed words from 45 different languages including Latin, Romanian, Sanskrit, Swedish, Swahili, Arabic, Gaelic, and Hebrew)

Sorry if this sounds weird, but isn't being bilingual the norm? Or at least some kind of understanding/proficiency in another language? I'm Bilingual and I'm trying to learn German.
      Although I could be wrong.

@@raze6919 bilingual means being raised in two languages at least here it does. Learning languages as an adult is great as well but much harder

@@anniw9598 It means the same (being bilingual) where i live, but I thought most people were raised in 2 and/or languages? Maybe it's just that where I live, there's a high percentage of people who grow up speaking multiple languages
I agree it is a gift, and learning languages when you're older is hard! I'm 14 and German grammar is killing me!

      @@raze6919 Not at all tbh..
Here only a few are raised bilingual and those are kids of immigrants who are mostly from Eastern European countries. So, only an extremely small percentage is raised bilingual, maybe 1%?
