  • @johnbeasley4211
    @johnbeasley4211 2 года назад +1

    Dude, thanks for the memories. Gotta say though that I go back 25 years earlier than your video. Right. Early 60s. What you said about it being an exciting place was so right especially for a 10-year-old. The "merry-go-round" and the calliope (aka the Myrtle Beach Organ") are forever ingrained in my memory. And way back then, the paving was non-existent. It was dirt, and wonderful. At the front of the amusement park facing the ocean were twin ferriswheels with the height of romantiic views of the Atlantic at their apex. Moving, even for a kid who still had the sand of the day's adventures under their toenails. The amusement park roller coaster was fun, but the real test of courage was the :Wild Mouse' individual car "roller coaster" in the Pavillion amusement park across the street. Those up-dressed people in your video were still to come. The real meaning of "Family" has been lost to a political ping-pong ball. You want to see families relaxing, having a great time, letting their hair down, being unafraid of being ordinary, everyone revisiting their own childhood with their own children, the 60s were the end of that. Sorry you missed it.

    Wikipedia indicates the Pavilion had "Rainbow" (serial number 48368), originally produced as a park model by HUSS in Germany back in 1984. The ride was brought to the Pavilion in 1987. After the Pavilion closed, the "Rainbow" made an appearance on RUclips (search "Maxwell Ivey Rainbow"); the video was made to showcase the "Rainbow" as it was for sale on "midway marketplace". i assume the "Rainbow" laid in a field for six years before being shown on RUclips. The "Rainbow" was converted to a trailer-mounted model and sold to a traveling midway that operates out of France. Wikipedia indicates "Rainbow" 48368 was scrapped in 2014. Hopefully it brought two years of joy to kids in Europe. The Fleur Family operates a traveling midway in France, so i hope any useful 48368 parts are being used on "Rainbow" #13 the Fleur Family has owned since 1983. Another "Rainbow" (#28) exists in an amusement park name Antibes Land in France...maybe parts of 48368 live on as part of this machine? Both French Rainbows can be seen on RUclips (search "Fleur Rainbow" or "Antibesland Rainbow"). Our closest "Rainbow" made by HUSS is located in Rossville, Georgia and is named "Conestoga" (#28) complete with Wild West theme. #28 was also built in 1984, but the seats are sideways and designed to look like riding in an old stagecoach (RUclips search "Lake Winnie Conestoga"). i can't believe you read all of this, thanks!

    Man I miss going to the pavilion amusement park back when it was open still in 2004. i remember riding the hydro rapids water ride that they had as well as seeing all of the other rides there. Another ride that I wanted to go on back then was the Hurricane Cat 5 wooden roller coaster. But now I will never get to ride it ever. i also heard that the broadway at the beach area is going to expand the pavilion east section and add some new attractions there in its place. But it was just a rumor for now. I hope it becomes true though.

    I was one of the ones who put gum on the wall of the tunnel on the Log Flume.🙋🏻‍♀😂This one time my brother, cousin and I begged my parents to stop at a gas station on the way there so we could get some gum to put on the wall. 😂 I loved the Rainbow. Not scary at all.🙂 Now I did not ride the Haunted Hotel. The Skelton at the balcony that moved scared the crap out of me. Flash forward to 2005 when I was 14 I got the courage to finally ride it but it broke down while waiting in line. Never had the chance to ride it since the Pavilion closed down the next year and for whatever reason my family didn’t go the Pavilion that final season. You also gotta good view of MB while riding the swings.

    Please do more of the 'time travel' videos if you have the footage for them, especially for the late 80s/early 90s since that was the time when my whole family visited MB together (many of whom are gone now). I still try to visit once a year with my dad, and every time we pass the empty lot where the Pavilion once stood, he gets angry that not only is it not there anymore, but that nothing has been done to the land (making the removal of a historical attraction seem pointless). We were there last month for a couple days and walked by the parking lot area from your previous video. He told me that he remembers riding some of the rides stored there when he was a kid, which dates some of them back to the late fifties/early sixties, so it will really be a shame if nothing is done with them. I wish whoever owns the land would just put them back in the same spot, at least once the pandemic is over and people are able to gather together safely again. The rainbow ride was pretty fun, by the way. The scariest thing about it, to me, was the big sun face at the center; that and the skull in the haunted house gave me nightmares as a kid.

    Thank you!!! This brings back so many awesome memories for me!! My family and I vacationed in Myrtle every year. We never ever got tired if it! We'd always go to the Pavlion during the vacay...i remember the Enterprise..would start out round and round then it would be upright and you'd be upside! Thrilling!!! My friend would always accompany me and we met two cute boys and we rode through that haunted house with them. Tony and Tracie were their names. What fun memories!!

    I still remember the first time I saw the Haunted Inn, as a young boy; it was marvelous. I was actually in disbelief when they converted it to the Haunted Hotel, which I felt was a baffling downgrade, as the Inn had such an immense presence. Still, I remember them both fondly, though the Inn remains one of those magical things from childhood.
    The Rainbow offered a priceless view of the Atlantic, over the roof of the Pavilion - one of the greatest memories of my entire childhood. It's for that reason that I maintain pieces of the ride in my collection, as mementos.

We hung out all night at the pavilion, and then walked the beach once it closed. I was from NC and she was from another state. I never had a connection like that, and probably never will again.
