🇮🇶 More Iraq Videos: • American in Iraq! 🇮🇶 I...
To create this Iraq series, I teamed up with my guides at Bil Weekend ( / bilweekend | bilweekend.com/) and my good friend and fellow travel filmmaker Tasos Karantakos ( / agreeksolo .
After arriving in the town of Bahzani east of Mosul in northern Iraq, I set out to explore the city’s sites, foods, and culture. There are four distinct religions in the city, including Christianity and two sects of Islam. Our morning began at an arak distillery!
ARAK DISTILLERY: I got to see the arak distillation process, as well as the ingredients used, including dates, nutmeg, anise, and fennel seeds. I also got to try some. It’s very strong! No wonder they call it “the milk of lions!”
YAZIDI TEMPLE: We made a quick visit to a local Yazidi temple. Yazidi is one of the local religions here. Most of the people in Bahzani are Yazidi, which is the oldest surviving religion in Iraq!
LUNCH: From there, we headed to a local man’s home for lunch. He offered us fried eggs, bread, tahini, a cheesy yogurt, olives, cookies, bread, and chai. Everything was great together, but the star of the show was the tahini, which took everything to the next level!
TAHINI FACTORY: We toured our host’s tahini factory and got to learn about the tahini-making process. Unfortunately, it was a Friday and a holiday, so no one was there, but we got to see the various stages of tahini production. I also tried some boiling hot tahini straight from the presser!

something we never see in corporate media… love this video
Love you bro, the media shoes only the bad side of Iraq and not this beautiful side i will visit this beautiful country before I die.
GREETINGS FRO DUBAI UAE 🇦🇪 Thanks for sharing my friend 👍🌷❤️💕
David, crusaders didn't bring christianity to Iraq, Iraq is one of the oldest Christian communities in the whole world, before it even reached Europe, please correct that info on your video, add a text or something.
Well said.. you are well informed
sure 100%
As a Kurd I am so glad people like you exist who document their travels to the middle east, unfortunately due to ever ongoing conflicts and wars, and terrorist extremists who have made their homes in the region, the majority of western media portrays a very negative image of our land and cultures. These are just people trying to live their lives, the places are filled with warm hearted and wonderful people, obviously there are some who have extreme ideologies but those exist everywhere, I hope that others can enjoy our beautiful land through your videos and see what life is like there for themselves. Al Salam Alaykum (Peace be with you)
Kitchen is very big ... Love the video.. In Sha Allah one day me and family will visit Iraq .. Brothers and sisters love from Bangladesh ❤️❤️.. All of You come Bangladesh and enjoy our Bengali foods ☺️
You're the first floger make vedio about Iraqi local alkouhul
Good to see the various religion existing peacefully ...Arak looks nice ..would live to have some...Temple is beautifully designed....and the homecooked foods...delicious also the homeowner is very welcomong........And the giving of free food on a Friday ...Blessings.And lastly I'm glad the church was renovated ...church looks so peaceful...serene....As always Thanks David and Tasos ...safe travels.
I like how Ali use a lot of information when translating. Jaffa seems more busy with food and rush talk to jump in to food.
Wow Arak!!! This looks so good!! Cant wait to taste Tahini :)
Lovely video David. Thank you for sharing. Really enjoying the series💕
I love how you respect the culture of different countries 🙏🏽😊
Thank you it’s really nice video from my town
Yes, I did enjoy it! Thank you so much! Salute to Baghdaida city, they’ve been through a lot throughout the years!
Welcome again in iraq buddy
I love this episode! Thank you so much David
This was so interesting to watch. I just love this group especially the old guy who seemed to be well-taken with David. That breakfast was not what I saw in previous videos but it as simple as you could get. And how about the guy with the sesame seeds and the tahini. Wow, what a 'mansion'. So vast and so generous of him to donate all that food and fruits to the underprivileged. Now I saw some hijinks by the older guy climbing up the hill like a cat: he made it look so easy. Thank goodness common sense prevailed and David didn't take the chance to climb as well. As for the church, what a beautiful, spacious and airy building. Good thing they restored it and left some remnants of the way it was. David, how much did you really understand what they were saying in their own language because it was so funny to watch. I know that you all are really going to miss each other when this series end because these Iraqis are truly genuine people. I, too, will miss them. To the Iraq people, I just want to say that you all welcomed David and Tasos with such open arms into your country and into your lives and the friendships that were made, I hope will last a long time. Truly amazing. I believe that this is close to the end so I will have more to say soon. David, well done.🤗🙏🕊️🇹🇹🇨🇦
Judy, I love the way how you go through every single detail in the Video never miss one. David is blessed to have a fan like you. Thank you for your Kind words about Iraqi people. As Iraqi American I have to give a Huge thank to David and Tasos to show an amazing image about how people are nice and hospitable, and how it is rich with history and culture.
@@littlethingsinlifeus hello little things in life US. Happy New Year. I never knew that you are an Iraqi. I am a very observant person and I try to analyze everything I see, so I look for details. My opinion of the Iraqis have been consistently honest in all of my comments. I truly love this series and the people. They are very open-minded and generous and kind. One thing you could tell me though about the women of Iraq. I don't see them in the videos. Can you tell me why that is? Thank you for the compliment. When the series is over, I will write up an overview. Anyway it's nice communicating with you in this forum. Take care and all the best for this New Year 🙏🕊️🇹🇹🇨🇦.
Incredible experience just watching it... thanks a lot Sir David 🙏
Assalamu Alaikum wow very very nice video
Wonderful video David, the host was very gracious , his house was interesting and the food looked delicious , simple and healthy. The surroundings looked very humble and untouched from modernization. I like that you get to sample pita bread/ roti from so many different countries, and yet it's almost all the same. ONE WORLD ONE FOOD ONE LOVE....ROTI ,
Bread dipped in tahini mixed with date syrup is the BEST!
I totally agree! ❤️
I was about to say the same thing. They should have given him dibis with the rashi.
By the way, if you are back in the states, try pancakes with Tahini and maple. As an Iraqi and US citizen, I am proud of this fusion. 😂 @@Davidsbeenhere
As an Iraqi Muslim, I want to send out love and respect to all of my countrymen, of all religions and ethnicities. Also, a genuine question for David... did you gain weight from your Iraq trip? 😂 Most people who travel home came back with a few kilos on.
Since this is the last video about your trip in my country, Iraq, I hope that you will make a video of questions and your opinion about everything and what are the pros and cons of that trip❤❤🇮🇶
Gotta visit this place
Thinks for visiting my hometown
Love from Pakistan
Old man walking straight up on mountain side
David: I’m not following him
Not just Christians drink alcohol, other religions, plus a lot of Iraqi Muslims do as well, it's not a crime ( Iraqis been drinking beer for thousands of years and they still do)

Saying crusaders bringing Christianity to this area really shows ignorance about the history of this region. Please educate yourself before claiming things like that.
You a real one.
😮
Bro its called a "milk of lions" not a "book of lies"😆😝😝😈😈
That looks like a Yazidi Temple

@@search2learn776 Yazidi
@@search2learn776 its not Christian. Its Yezidi. The last one was church
