This was always one of my favorite songs from the Kingdom Hearts series, and I've been excited to put lyrics to this one for a long time. With Kingdom Hearts III's recent release, I figure now was as good a time as any!
NOTE: I have not yet finished Kingdom Hearts III, and I'm sure many commenters also have not. Please, no KHIII spoilers!

The lines "What I feel/ Isn't real/ I'm not me/ I'm Nobody" and "I'm just a shade/ Better off forgotten" just really hit home for me. I honestly relate with Roxas more than any other character in media just because I've always felt alone, longing for what others have that I don't. It's just really sad lines, but I honestly can feel Roxas's pain. So glad for the resolution of his arc in 3.

My boyfriend and I have been watching it together, and now I see why he loves this series so much. If you search "Kingdom Hearts Timeline" on RUclips, you should find it.

I am sitting here with my friends, eating sea salt ice cream and fangirling about how Roxas is my favorite KH character. We see this and listen. We immediately start crying. This song has always been my favorite KH song!

@@Zellig Kingdom Hearts has a very convoluted plot. You need to play all the games to understand it. I've never played a Kingdom Hearts game, so I could be wrong. I'm just going off of stuff I've heard online.

This theme always has such a sad, painful and lonely undertone... The lyrics, your voice, and the video just make it all the worse... GREAT JOB, Alex!!!! I FREAKING LOVE IT!!!! 😭 ~ 💖

Lyrical meanings for those of you who are interested (note that these are how I interpret the lyrics, and that they're open to interpretation):
Lost in a dream, Roxas, remembering Sora's memories, feels like he is lost in a dream during his 6 days in the Simulated Twilight Town
I'd almost forgotten / This sleepy town that / I call my home: Roxas, living in Twilight Town and being Sora's Nobody, almost doesn't remember Twilight Town, due to DiZ's machinations.
Everything seems / Like a slice of heaven: Twilight Town is a peaceful town, where the citizens take every day one step at a time. Because it's such a peaceful town, everything there seems like paradise, or a slice of heaven.
But I remember / Thoughts that aren't my own: Because Sora's memories are being restored, and Roxas is Sora's Nobody, Roxas is remembering events from Sora's past, hence the thoughts that aren't his own.
Tell me why my heart / Doesn't feel like it's my own: All Roxas longed for during his time with Organization XIII was to be his own person, independent from Sora, and this is a struggle throughout the series. DiZ, in order to make Roxas truly feel like he's living in Twilight Town, gives him a heart. With all that's happening around him, his "heart" feels like it's not his.
Is this real / What I feel / Am I me / Or Nobody: Roxas is truly questioning who he is due to his connections with Sora
Plucked from the deep / I swore an oath then / Once I was nothing / Then told to be more: Upon Roxas' creation, he was, essentially, a blank slate. He joined Organization XIII, thereby symbolically swearing an oath to carry out its work. He was told to be more, since, because he could wield the Keyblade, it was his job to collect hearts to create Kingdom Hearts, where, upon its creation, he could be more - he'd have his own heart.
Number thirteen: Roxas was the thirteenth member of the Organization
Pulled to oblivion: This could be a reference to Roxas' signature Keyblade, Oblivion, which, along with Oathkeeper, he was able to use after Xion's death. It's also his feelings on the Organization's motives.
a tool, a pawn / The key to war : Roxas found out that the Organization was just using him and grew deeply distrustful of their motives and questioned why exactly he could wield the Keyblade, setting out to find Sora.
Tell me why my heart / Feels like it never has before: It was discovered by Sora in Dream Drop Distance that Nobodies can indeed cultivate hearts and the Organization was lied to by Xigbar and Xemnas so the members would help create Kingdom Hearts. Roxas is asking why his heart feels like it never has before because it's being split into two - over Xion's death, and Axel's apparent abandonment of the two.
Is this real / What I feel / You and me / And Nobody: Roxas is once more asking if what he feels is truly real, this time regarding him and Nobody, implied to be Xion.
Taken from me / I had a life then: Because Roxas had to kill Xion and Axel essentially abandoned him, his life was taken away from him. All he knew in his life was his friendship with his two best friends. When they drifted apart, his life was split apart.
My true companions / Fallen by the score: Again, Roxas is lamenting his companions' deaths. The literal death of Xion, and the death of his friendship with Axel.
Why must I be / Dropped back in dreaming: Roxas is asking himself why he should be dropped back into a dream. When Sora went to sleep to restore his memories in Chain of Memories, so did Roxas. He had a dream - of him, Xion, and Axel on what appeared to be Destiny Islands.
A fleeting shadow / Locked behind the door: At this point, Roxas truly is a fleeting shadow. He's faded, merged with Sora. The door referred to in this line is the door or Sora's heart.
What I feel / Isn't real / I'm not me / I'm Nobody: Roxas has accepted that what he feels simply isn't real. His friendship with Hayner, Pence, and Olette specifically. He's truly Nobody since he's merged with Sora.
I'm just a shade / Better off forgotten: Here, Roxas accepts his fate. He's truly a shade. However, throughout the course of the series, we see Roxas feels that's not better off forgotten. While he accepts to merge with Sora, he also comes to realize that is still important to his friends, especially Axel.
What I feel / isn't real / I'm not me / I'm nobody: And finally, Roxas laments that's he not real.
Edit: Upon beating 2 for the umpteenth time, I'd like to add on to "What I feel/ Isn't real/" Upon being created, Xemnas told Roxas: "You feel nothing. Nothing is real". Here, Roxas is lamenting that.

Ever since I first heard this theme, years ago when 358/2 Days came out, it's been one of my favorite pieces too, and I feel like the way your voice sounds so haunting here really fits the feel of the song. It's melancholy, kinda faded sounded, and... aaa, it's really packing the emotions, man. Beautiful.

I have always loved roxas he is my favorite kingdom hearts character and his theme really reflects who is. Great job with the lyrics they really fit
There's a good dark fanfic called "Will of the Twilight" in which he refuses to return to Sora. Sora is my favorite character... But I was very proud of Roxas for fighting to claim a future of his own design. Because that is how you know you're a living being. Any less, and you just happen to be a toy that breathes.

I didn't even fully catch most of the lyrics because i was trapped within the melody and vocals, i suspect the part where you end with the word "nobody" might feel impactful to me due to the fact i heard it after hearing your version of beneath the mask, and persona 5 being this schematic mementos of this social figure who once took my old innocent life away and made go through phases of avarice, hate and disdain

Guys, Roxas' life is so sad, he doesn't know who he is or what's his meaning to live, he's not even treated as a normal kid or getting the respect he needs, and his only friends are Lea and Xion, both taken from him, his life is so sad. 😢

I always liked twilight town the best along with the other non Disney towns. Some of the Disney stuff always felt a little to gimmicky to me, and i never really enjoyed those parts of the games. The most fun I had was probably with the fire emblem and original story stuff tbh. always kind of felt like square enix was working around having to have Disney stuff in the story. at least in the later stuff.
Wait Fire Emblem ? I think you meant Final Fantasy there. I do the same mistake sometimes.
The disney parts are supposed to be there, Sora's from a grittier existence than most of them so when he sees how they keep a level head it's a life changing experience. That's why in 2 he was more protective over the worlds.
