- Chipping Norton is a small English town in the county of Oxfordshire in the English Countryside. Chipping Norton is the highest town in Oxfordshire, situated on the western slopes of a hillside that was once the site of a Norman castle.
Chipping Norton is called "Chippy" by the locals and is one of the most attractive towns in the Cotswolds region.
The area was once a major centre in the wool trade which brought prosperity to the Cotswold region throughout the Middle Ages. More recently, Chadlington - 3 miles south - has become best known as the home of Diddly Squat Farm; Jeremy Clarkson's farming estate.
There is good choice of places to eat and top quality entertainment at the wonderful Theatre, famous for its pantomime and visiting world class performers.

Thanks Kevin. I really like Chipping Norton and often stopped there for a stretch of the legs and a cup of coffee. There was a lovely cafe a few hundred yards down the Evesham road back in the day. Hook Norton is not too far away for one of my favourite breweries.

Do neighbourhood children freely play on the streets? This is something i'm looking for my 5 year old when we move to oxfordshire shortly

In some communities the children do come out and play especially if there is open space in front the house. I haven't seen much of children in the streets playing.
