Absolutely. It really turned this into a more serious self reflection moment when all the audience was rooting for him to just take the win and go home. 😢
Yeah, her boyfriend and soon to be step-dad was a real stand-up guy. Tried to be a good father to Max, saw what was good for him and did not press the issue to move them to Boston. That guy had class. He was really trying his best to be a good husband and father.
Probably why everyone hated him in the movie lol. Its too bad people like that tend to lose in life. Get taken advantage of or just despised for being demure. He kinda reminds me of jerry from rick and morty.
@@nullakjg767To be fair. He deserves so much better. It's obvious that she doesn't love him. Much as it hurts to know the truths, it is better now than later
Yea but he ain’t own the Kewchy sir. It’s why I have to see a death certificate of the baby daddy if I mess with a woman with kids. Or they have to have not been seen in a decade. All they have to do is “act right” and they back in there like swimwear
Another fun reaction! Liar Liar is definitely the perfect mix of goofy comedy and heartfelt moments! Also Carrey is a really likable guy and carries the movie. Of course, u can't believe for a second that he's a lawyer but belief is not needed in this film. This is a movie with a message that fathers shouldn't ignore their children.
The film is dedicated to Jason Bernard who played his last role as Judge Stevens in this film and shortly after died of a heart attack. When Judge Stevens first walks in the courtroom and the guard says: "Please stand up to receive honorable Judge Marshall Stevens", Fletcher mocks the word "honorable". Since he was under the effect of the wish, he may know the judge is a corrupt one. This is Jason Bernard's second appearance in a movie about a lawyer under the supernatural influence who ends up behaving like a maniac in court. The first was All of Me (1984) starring Steve Martin.
"Seven times..." Jennifer Tilly looks incredible in Liar Liar. She was on fire in the 90s, along with Bride of Chucky (Childs Play 4) and Bound (a tense crime thriller with Gina Gershon).
"He knocked over another ATM. This time at knifepoint. He needs your legal advice." "Stop breaking the law, asshole!" Fun Fact: Jim Carrey was paid $20 Million for this film. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: Fletcher's (Jim Carrey) car is a 1996 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 [R129]. Law Enthusiast Fact: Some fans pointed out that Mrs. Cole (Jennifer Tilly) isn't sworn in here but Tom Shadyac said they just cut it out to help speed the movie up. Authentic Battle Scares Fact: When Fletcher beats himself up in the restroom, no sound effects were used; those are really the sounds of Jim Carrey's head slamming into the urinal, floor, and walls. Objection Fact: As Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is leaving the court building at the beginning of the film, he is asked "Hey Fletcher! How did it go in there?" by the real-life Chris Darden, the lawyer that prosecuted O.J. Simpson.
Cary Elwes is most famous for Princess Bride, maybe my fave movie ever, and a great one for reactors. Most recently, he was the mayor in Stranger Things. I often do his version of "Oh no. It's the Claw."
Great reaction, Nia! I rememeber when me and my dad watched this at the theater! Lol, at 9:12-15 when the lady says 'What are you doing! what is wrong with you!', i thought that was you, Nia, for a second(listening while on a different screen).
15:34 "Ask me something you think I would _normally lie_ about." Fletcher, I don't know _what_ you expected, here. If it's something you would normally _lie_ about, there's a _reason_ for that.
I love this movie, and I'm thrilled that it's so popular with reactors. And bonus points to you for laughing at all of my favorite jokes. (By the way, 2003's Bruce Almighty is basically the same movie. Carrey is a jerky guy who gets affected by a magic spell and becomes a worthwhile human being.)
I know what happened to Jerry: he became a doctor, had a family, he got kidnapped and chained in a dirty bathroom by a seral killer and he ended up sawing off his own foot.
Great reaction once again Nia did you know that Jim Carrey makes a cameo in his own movie as fire marshal Bill, a character he invented when he was on the show “In Living Color”. Keep up the amazing work
The movie that convinced me Jim Carrey could play a human being instead of just a “character.” Obviously the slapstick is here, but he has to be a believable dad, and he pulls it off.
Would everybody please shut up about the “slapstick?” That’s not what he is. He’s the most amazingly talented comedian ever. Hence why he can pull off a believable dad, he can play any character… that’s part of what makes him amazingly talented. He has a daughter in real life, by the way
Jennifer Tilly is actually in one of my other favorite comedy movies, High Spirits, with Steve Guttenberg, Darryl Hannah, Beverley D'Angelo, Liam Neeson and Peter O'Toole. Of course she's not a blonde in that movie.
5:22 That's Jennifer Tilly, and she hasn't been in any of the adaptations of Annie. If you were thinking of the 1982 version of Annie, that was Bernadette Peters you're probably thinking of.
22:30 doesnt matter that she got married at 17, it would nullify the marriage... but she is still the mother of his children and lived with him, that's common law marriage. If you move in with someone, grow a family together, but never go through with the marriage formality... common law marriage protects the person not on the bills from getting screwed. If one partner handled all the finances, their name would be on all the bills so without common law marriage the law would say you were just living in their house because you dont have any proof since you just gave your partner money. its a safety net against pettiness.
Great reaction !!! You caught pretty much most of Carrey's dark human jokes and mannerisms that made his career what it was. Except the one at 14:39. And I am sure a lot of men fans played 14:39 a few times. Your confusion was really hot !!!
3:45 "Actually, Fletcher, something rather _important's_ just come up. You're not _busy_ tonight, are you?" Tonight? You mean... during his son's _birthday_ party? Yes. Fletcher's _busy._ See, reasons like this why _I_ could never make it as an attorney, even if the field wasn't already _hopelessly_ saturated with competition in my country. Your free time is not _your free time._
So happy to see this one come up in my subscription page. This may be my favorite Jim Carrey comedy (although it's a close one between this and "Bruce Almighty." It's hard to decide between them). I enjoy a lot of the humor in this, and there are some really savage lines spread through the movie. Also, I like that they avoided the "New Guy Is Horrible" trope. In so many movies, the new boyfriend or whatever is a horrible person and you're just cheering for the main character's ex to break up with them. But in this one, Jerry really is a good guy, and like you said, he's trying. Even at the end, he gives up on them coming with him to Boston and he does it with grace. It may not have worked out for him, but he was a genuinely decent character. It's a nice change of pace. ✌🤓
Movie recommendation: Bedazzled (2000), starring Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. Dorky office guy (Fraser) makes a deal with the Devil (Hurley), seven wishes for his eternal soul. But, it turns out it isn't that easy to formulate the wishes.. It's just a really funny comedy, and Brendan Fraser is fantastic in it. xD
"Is this a story about him being a better parent?" I dunno. He really doesn't do much over the course of the movie to be a better father, but the time skip at the end suggests he changes. I'm not entirely sure what exactly he learned other than that lying to his son to get his hopes up only leads to disappointment and he should spend more time wirh his son if he loves him.
Nia, you said you wanted to know what the other guy (Jerry) is doing? Watch the movie, "SAW" (2004) and you'll meet a certain Dr Gordon who works in a hospital. Its just another family friendly movie. And that's no lie.😉
Interesting that you didn't seem to laugh as much as you do when you watch Brooklyn 99. I remember first seeing this randomly on TV not knowing anything, just seeing that Jim Carrey is in it, and I laughed so much it hurt 🤣 when he imitates the turkey I lose it every time, no matter that I've seen it a billion times now 😄
Any other man who's trying to do something that only my biological father can do, right? I will not be happy with that. They're basically trying to replace my daddy and his talents that can only make me smile when he does it. I don't care how much of a blessing the new guy is, if he's trying to do something that my biological father can do I would never be ok with that.
The boyfriend trying to do the claw is lame. That’s the bond between father and child that can not be taken away. Replacing a father who works too much is not right. He tried to be a part of his sons life as much as possible. No respect for the boyfriend.
14:54 "But you're the only one that makes me feel bad" Absolute dagger!
Straight up worse feeling moment in a comedy I’ve ever seen.
"I HOLD MYSELF IN CONTEMPT, WHY SHOULD YOU BE ANY DIFFERENT??"
One of the most powerful lines I've ever heard.
Absolutely. It really turned this into a more serious self reflection moment when all the audience was rooting for him to just take the win and go home. 😢
The most important line in the movie yet most reactors cut it out.
Yeah, her boyfriend and soon to be step-dad was a real stand-up guy. Tried to be a good father to Max, saw what was good for him and did not press the issue to move them to Boston. That guy had class. He was really trying his best to be a good husband and father.
Right?!?! The real MVP! Stepping up and being a good role model for Max
Probably why everyone hated him in the movie lol. Its too bad people like that tend to lose in life. Get taken advantage of or just despised for being demure. He kinda reminds me of jerry from rick and morty.
Reminiscent of Walter in Sleepless in Seattle.
