Accually with regards to battery, newer cars can destroy ecu's if user dc negative terminal first, as when we do that from what i heard from electronic guy there is reverse double voltage from "charged" capacitors. Only reason we do negative first is because people are dumb, and we forget that we work with power that can weld wrench to body, as all sheet metal is basically negative. And if you dc one terminal technically there should be no issue with connecting same one to other, but some cars have battery that might damage while we would short circut. So i would not try if i would not know car i'm working on.

You should wear gloves when handling car batteries to protect your hands from battery acid or other hazardous battery chemicals. Also wearing the correct kind of gloves helps prevent you from getting shocked if you form a complete electrical circuit.
