Southern Shaolin „Tiger and Crane Double Form Set (Fu Hok Seung Ying 虎鶴雙形), performed Yeung Dakyau sifu 杨德友師傅 (90 years old at the time when the video was shot), a Nanjing 南京 practitioner of Naam Siulam Tingong Mun 南少林天罡門 and a TCM physician. He has started the training at the age of 6; currently he is 92 years old.
respect to the master , age is just a number
90 years old... faster, stronger and more balanced than majority of guys in their 20s now.
+Brucho Sindicate Correct.
😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣in their 20s🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋
No
Wow i thought being an older guy like 56 i was doing ok but this guy (master) is effin awesome
amazing skill its something id like to be doing at that age and seeing this just makes me more determined to keep training
Kung Fu is developing Body. Mind and Spirit in balance with each other. I'm 56yo and still teach and train Taiwanese ChengChi Golden Eagle (Golden Eagle, Mantis, Monkey etc half internal/external) with no health issues, no arthritis, still flexible and still can hold my own almost anyone anywhere anytime (I'm 6'4 208 lbs, think white Jon Bones Jones) lol. Kung Fu Forever - or at least 100 years, lol.
I want to adopt this guy as my grandad!
Bravo!!!!!!!
I notice that most fighting games don't have a hung gar fighter.
my grandmother makes it better
for those saying "try this against an MMA fighter blah blah" id like to see a 90 year old MMA fighter do this. sorry I mean get out of his wheel chair, or off his walking frame, or out of his home for the mentally impaired, or stop shaking from parkinsons, or even be alive to do this.
I was just about to post the exact same thing
Do you think they get 90?!
Fucking morons lol
@Whammer79 no, it's meant for fighting, it isn't really an art
And it's strong, it's just most people don't really know how to use kungfu moves
Hahaha, true. I'm trained in both and couldn't imagine doing MMA past 50. I love my Chinese Kung Fu - Taiwanese ChengChi Golden Eagle, Mantis, Monkey etc half internal half external (perfect blend imo.)still teach 2x/week 3-4 hour classes, still fight alot and train 15-60 mins daily on my own, I'm 56yo, 6'4" 209lbs, no permanent injuries except couple broken fingers and my hands are bigger from iron palm training.i have good strong joints and tendons no joint problems except minor range of motion limitation from an arm bar. But still pretty flexible and very healthy, it's the Kung Fu lifestyle developing body, mind and spirit training not just hard style fighting that allow us to be training into our 90's. It takes along time really understand and apply the higher level Kung techniques, I just sparred a good MMA style fighter light contact and I literally just framed up kept my structure, didn't collapse (internal principle) and unfortunately for him he just ran straight into my fist while trying a typical kick boxing combo d/t just keeping good structure. I share a school with a traditional Shotokan school and the teacher can't bend his knees, is stiff all over and slow now and when spar his students we dodge and knock them off balance because they're SO LINEAR AND STIFF! lol. I gotta say being a good fighter is largely a state on mind. Kung Fu forever! Peace.
My deep respect to the Master who performed this form with such elegance (at his age!) Thank you for allowing us to enjoy this video.
The real life master roshi
This guy and all of the 70+ year old bodybuilders are proof that "use it or lose it" is the key to long life and prosperity. As long as you are not doing an activity that damages the body.
I am ashamed I have let myself and my kung fu go so badly. He shows me that there are no excuses.
@esshung: Hung Gar is a direct descendant of the Shaolin Temple. It's one of those styles generally called southern shaolin. Hong Xiguan (a.k.a. Hung Hei Kun) studied with a Shaolin monk.
This old man is amazing, he deserves all the credit in the world. I only hope I can move like that when I'm older
wow... that cartwheel o.o
I hope to continue as long as I live, practicing Shaolin kung fu. I have now 43 years in and hope to have 43 more.
Thank you Marten I intend to do just that, I have a small group that I practice with and teach. It is a way of life. Peace :)
We practice mostly Hung Gar and Wing Chun but not exclusively.
May you have another 60+yes more.
My respect to this gentlemen. In such age, such low stances and performance in general... Just trying to imagine his shape in his 30 y.o. Respect again.
Wow awesomeness...impressive💖💎💖
Excelente performance!!!, excelente estado físico!!! muy muy buen MAESTRO!!!!!
SIFU
_Cảm ơn đã chia sẻ rất tuyệt videos rất đẹp, chúc bạn ngày mới thành công .
Well, this particular form was designed by Wong Fei Hung himself, so it is really from after the temple's destruction. Still, I think you're just being a bit of a nitpicker. The term Southern Shaolin is applied to the five southern families' gong fu (Hung, Lau, Li, Choy and Mok) as well as to the styles derived from them (e.g. Choy Lee Fut).
As for the origin of the crane part of Hung Gar, I believe it's still up to debate. Gong Fu history is mostly oral and very murky.
Where can I find more of him
I know how school is called "big dipper Kung Fu" and I've seen his tiger and crane instructional video
Anything else ?
so you tell a 20 year old who is in some sports, ask him to do that or just do the legs part, the stances, turn their legs to jelly no doubt. Also, when you learn this, you do one movement after another, like 1, 2, 3 etc.. and the sifu will have you stay in positions and correct you, for 2-3, sometimes 10-20 seconds each time, by the end of the form your legs are dead, and the next day you will have serious problems trying to climb the steps to your job. The more you do it the more you get used to it though, ive seen people stay in horse stance for 20 minutes and not break a sweat.
im not nitpicking anything just asking what shaolin tiger crane is vs hung gar tiger crane. i also know my history, and i dont think this was the wong fei hung version cause its so different then everyone elses. also wong didnt live that long ago so im not sure that history about him would be so unclear either. just my oppinion
Seeing other versions of the form, I'd say either this a shorter form created from the original Tiger and Crane or just a shortened version for show. As for the Southern Shaolin, Hung Gar dichotomy the seal says Hung Har Kuen, so this is effectively said style.
well the black tiger style came from shaolin but not hung gar and the crane style came from his wife. then came hung gar after his wife. i under stand where hung gar started but it wasnt hung gar till after the temple was burned
just curious what is shaolin tiger and crane and why is it different than hung gar cause the way i learned it hung gar or tiger crane came after the shaolin temple was burned.
Not even my 70 yr old grand pa can do this ...😅☝🏽woooow dude looks over 95 and he can move like that woow he even did a flip
@quanfa88 No worries, I have it wrapped with carpet padding and over laid with vynal material to allow harder striking. this method is actually historically correct according to some ancient Shaolin text that I have read. you are pretty dead on in your MA break down. I started in TKD, but after 2yrs I moved on to more street effective arts, such as Kenpo, Hung Ga Kuen, and Wing Chun. What is your system?
@SijoJay Good training for that tournament, but definitely improper use of a muk yan jong. This is why I have long since avoided tournaments; they would force me to adopt training methods & habits which I don't want. Shortly after I switched from Korean to Chinese arts, I realized the latter are geared more to real combat, and are not structured for athletics. Karate/Tae Kwon Do for tournaments, Muay Thai/San Shou/MMA for full contact sports, Kung Fu for real fighting.
@quanfa88 yeah really! I use a lot of controlling techniques (Chin Na/Kam Na) when I fight, absolutely no type of grabs are allowed, that was the bigest limiter for me. About a month before the tournament, I simply beat my Muk Yan Jong (Wooden Man) for about 30 minutes a day. I have a traditional one that I constructed myself cemented 3 ft in the ground in my back yard, my wife could hear the vibrations in the house from the second story living room.
@SijoJay If those were the tournament rules, you would have no choice but to abide by them. I will not say anything bad about the Yoshukai organization (even though I don't prefer their methods); I once had a friend who was an instructor. I'm often amused that the argument stating tournament rules limit Kung Fu's effectiveness is dismissed. My counter is, "if such techniques (i.e. tiger claws to the groin, snake jabs to the eyes) are ineffective, why bother banning them in the first place?"
@kogiama further more, forms are but a guide to free expression, you learn the system and develop your own style using the tools that were taught. the old masters never intended for students to be bound by forms, you actually believe that forms were never suppose to evolve from their original creation, your knowledge of martial arts is very limited, i can guarantee you that you haven't learned the original forms taught in your art for they have been modified over time
@kogiama i wasnt disrespectful, truthful, but not disrespectful, and unless you are learning from the founder of the system, you are not learning the original system. Why add more moves to complicate things, how about refine and simplify so as to make things more pratical. If you learn Wong Fei Hungs Hung Gar, you are not learning Luk Ah Choy's Hung Gar, nor Hung Hei Gun's Hung Gar. If you are learning Ip Man's Wing Chun, you are not learning Chan Wah Shun's Wing Chun.
@kogiama actually, you are wrong! many forms have changed over the years due to the practitioners own experience in actual fights, as long as the core principles are the same, nothing is lost. if the martial art doesn't evolve, it becomes stagnant. so go swim in your swamp water martial art that probably doesn't even work outside of the school it's taught in. if you were an actual fighter, not just another mcdojo student you would realize these things.
@kogiama Further, many practitioners force themselves into a textbook pattern, but their forms are lost and have no purpose. Those who truly benefit from forms training, are not those who are bound by strictly delineated external parameters, but those who discover how to use forms as tools to discover their structure, and can then break the patterns to react appropriately to all situations. The master depicted herein has done just that, and, in so doing, has made the form his own.
@kogiama This form is only wrong according to those who merely understand techniques from a textbook-style perspective. This master's form is actually flawless, even though he deviates somewhat from the traditionally accepted pattern. An expert's movements eventually change to mold to his own structure, rather than a structure outlined in a textbook. Understanding true, individual structure, is much more difficult than just copying movements exactly as they are taught in a classroom.
@yungthugjase Not that you're even worth a reply, but what about this performance is "hilarious" or "far from the real thing?" This master has nearly perfect form, structure, timing, rooting, and fa jing. He encompasses all qualities of traditional kung fu. This is one of the best forms I have seen, and the man performing it is old enough to be your grandfather at least, maybe great grandfather. What could possibly be your reference for making such ignorant, disrespectful comments?
@rchapel Isn't that the truth? I liked your Kenpo videos, by the way. While I'm not an American Kenpo stylist (my system is Shaolin 5 Animals combined with Wing Chun), our systems have a lot in common. From what I understand, the Chinese side of your art mostly comes from Shaolin 5 Animals. Keep up the hard training.
most mma fighter wont be able to move like this...just look at boxers...the body is not designed to get hit like that...i rather be 90 move like this and be told i cant 'fight" then to suffer from multiple injuries and be crapping in my pants from incontinence but was once a "fighter" because the reality is a 45 will end that debate on who can fight and who cant.
If you want to learn kung fu like this check out the Paper Tigers by Allan Ondash.
i think he's trying to help the old man, I think he means for those who talk shit about him, i bet you $10000 to try to fight and win him. He might of had some grammer mistakes. lol.... cause there are alot of mistakes in his sentences.
True... I always say that if one learns any martial art just to kick someone's ass and show how cool he is, he didn't understand anything, Martial arts, whether internal or external are about discipline, self-improvement and training, not about man's own ego.
@SijoJay No problem. By the way, good job beating that Japanese Karate stylist (in what appeared to be a Kyokushin-style tournament) at his own game. I'm sure you would have ended it much quicker if they had allowed you to use Kung Fu.
@quanfa88 you are wrong.
you can change the form if you like but every single move is an attack or a grip or a stance or a block or anyway something!
that man changed the form and attacks and moves are lost.
Then the form is wrong
Thank you
@SijoJay show some respect first of all...secondly...a form can stay the same and evolve it with more moves...no need to change it...anyway...not even hung gar is original anymore...oh...and next time show more respect...
A real good master we have seen now. I hope I could get it at the same age.
Много знакомых движений... есть и пустые движения с моей точки зрения😊😂😊👍👍👍
Notice that the crane part of this form keeps his movements (ie body) soft and fluid. The tiger keeps his hands hard (ie powreful). Look and learn.
@Elephantpalm the tiger crane of hung hei gung uses more of a fukien/fujian crane style. Wong Fei Hung lineage uses tibetan crane
I love this performance and this man!!! : )
hahahah , wait till u 90years old, i don't think u can not even walk , y would i make deal like that , ahhahaha

This form good for oil checking
About 40 years ago I began studying t'ai chi after watching an 85-year old man do a sword form that included a section where he coiled down to the ground and sprang up like he was about 13. I figured I'd like to be more like him than be like my 85-year old grandfather who was dying from cancer and a rotten life. I'm closing in on 70 myself now. Feels good. Nope, I won't be taking on any MMA fighters - props to them all, I'm a fan - but I do feel pretty good and I'm still practicing every day. Peace to all.
Does anybody know if he's still alive?
how old is he in this video ```???????
