  • How big is Google actually? Is google a monopoly? What is AMP, and how does it play into all of this? We will explore Google's market dominance, and why they operate in the way that they do. It might be a monopoly, but it’s highly unstable.
This is a sort of part two to the Apple and Google monopoly, watch the first one here: • Apple’s systematic war...

Very interesting, you've made some good points. I agree having such a dominant position is problematic but I can see how just chopping up the company can bring some problems of its own since it is undeniable that Google makes big efforts to make the web attractive and workable using its power as a form of standardization which is positive when we do it "the right way" (I quoted this cause it is complicated to define). Splitting Google could derive in just a new Google appearing or in the dawn of a kind of cold war web where each corner of the world uses their tools and technologies which are not interoperable, both undesired outcomes. There is a bit of a contradiction here, on one hand, we have a monopoly, on the other hand, there is some valuable work done for the web done by this monopoly. I think making these processes more open and democratic, less dependent on private and hidden interests would help to tackle these issues better than just start splitting up things that maybe cannot work without each other (as you point out in the video we have good browsers partially because Google puts money on it).
Thank you for the video and keep up the good work!

Thanks, yeah I agree with you. Google only works as one entry. The troubling thing is that they are starting to exploit their dominance with Chrome to push forward standards that only benefit them, as IE did in the early 2000's. However, they are also diverting resources away from the web and towards Flutter & Android. I think Google is the best hope for the web right now, and they could decide to abandon it at any time if it becomes too bureaucratic. Really tricky situation.
