I found out about Osakazuki in one of Charlie's Amazing Maple Crazy Conifer garden tour videos, it was the most eye popping color out of the whole collection. I immediately started researching Osakazuki after that.
I have one but I bought it this winter so it doesn't have any leaves yet. I can't wait to see it leaf out in a couple of weeks! Certainly this fall red color is the best I've ever seen, a sight to behold.
YEEEESSS! I bought an Osakazuki this year to be the main shade tree for my other Japanese Maples, very excited to see this video from you guys! I planted it in the sunniest part of my yard in zone 8b, hoping it can take the full sun and thrive.

nothing really beats seeing a plot of land that has all the colors and sizes. just and orgy of color from light green, yellow, orange pink, red and crimson. some are even variegated. it's almost to the point where you don't even really need annuals or anything that flowers.

I know you guys are in Western N.C.....I'm in central NC and would love to visit on my next trip back home to. Cherokee, NC..
They are extremely different. Check out our video on Sango kaku. Sango kaku is known for its red bark and goes to a bright yellow in the fall. It also has very small leaves compared to Osakazuki
Is it possible that is end you a photo of my tree? I bought a young tree, and although it says, “OsakaZuki,” I’m trying to figure out if it is through the leaves. The leaves of my tree are more jagged :(
Hi Guys, I know you are the maple expert. Would you please tell me the reason why my Osakazuki maple tree is not that bright red in autumn? The leaves turn dark red before falling off the tree in early winter. I bought it in 2021 summer. It's healthy and I live in zone 8b. Thanks a lot.
I LOVE this tree!! I live in a zone 3 (Wallowa Mountains of Oregon). You mentioned zone 5 for this tree, some sites say zone 3. Can it thrive in zone 3? I am looking to line a drive way with something that wont outgrow around 25-30ft. I have ruled out Autumn Blaze Maple and Mountain Ash... Any suggestions?

We just had an 80yo oak tree out of our neighbors yard fall last week and take out our 8-9' Osakazuki. We had it about 6-7 years and pruned into a great shape. Was one of our favorites with amazing color. We can't find a replacement that size anywhere. We can't even find small ones in our area now. Any suggestions?
So sorry to hear that. If you had it for 6-7 years... It will be hard to find something that size. I'm afraid you'll have to buy a smaller one and be patient until it grows to the size you want.
I have 2 of those, we are in South Germany. They are growing like crazy. I wonder how big they can get? They are standing near the house, i could not ever cut them off.
There are plenty of cultivars out there with outstanding fall color. No pun intended, it is naturally easy to say something is the best of X, only until we discover something else we perceive as better.
I am planning to plant an Osakazuki in my courtyard garden which has a wall to wall width of 5 meters. I am aware that this tree will grow up to 4 meters plus. Is it ok to keep the height to around 2 to 3 meters tall? Thanks.
Hi love the video. At 2:55 you mention an orange Acer palmatum , a "classic pairing" but I can't tell what it is. "Hogo ku? Could you clarify? Thanks :) (As an aside, I cant get your website to work).

@@MrMapleShow Hi thanks for the reply. I think the issue is that your site is not working in the UK. Hello, I have a Coral Bark Japanese maple tree. The tree is planted in the ground, somehow, it is not doing too well, the leaves as slowly dying, especially at the top of the tree and working its way down. I've checked the ph level and it is registering 7.-8. Based on some of the research I've done thus far, I need to reduce the Ph level to 5.5-6.5. Can you confirm? Also, what would be the ideal fertilizer for this particular tree? I've heard people said Happy Frog Japanese Maple 4-3-4 is good. Thanking you in advance. LV
Yes, japanese maples like slightly acidic soils. As for the fertilizer, Mr. Maple recommends not to overfertilize th trees and in any case use a fertilizer with a nitrogen level below 15. If I recall correctly they said they use 10 at their nursery.
I've heard that Maple trees in general shouldn't be planted too close to a building because of the roots. Is this true of the Japanese Red Maple as well?
Some different maples can be of issue but Japanese Maples do not. Acer palmatums do not have invasive root systems and can be planted without concern to structure.

Best autumn colour of all trees on planet earth i believe. Nothing matches osakazuki. The leaves are almost luminescent in autumn.
It is beautiful. I think another tree that ties it would be a sourwood.
