Terry is one of the greatest Quarterbacks of all time, he don't get the credit he deserves of the great receviers he have, he was good at reading defenses.
Well, Terry admitted that his regular season numbers weren't the greatest. Consider he threw only 2 more TDs than INTs in his career (212 to 210), and threw more INTs than TDs in 5 seasons. He didn't need the best stats during the regular season because of all the talent around him and the all-time great defenses. But when it was crunchtime - the postseason and Super Bowl, he turned the switch on and became Mr. Clutch.

Also remember he had a great team behind him. Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Mike Webster, Joe Greene, L.C. Greenwood, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, Donnie Shell, Mel Blunt and Chuck Noll as coach. Without those guys there is no 4 Super Bowls or hall of fame career.

Growing up in a little town just outside of Pittsburgh and seeing these guys when I was very young left a lasting impact. That team from back then was without a doubt one of the best to ever play and they did so in a very humble and fun manner. Terry never got to a point where he wasn't there for the fans. He was true to the sport and true to the fans just like the whole team was during that time. Here we are 30ish years later and he is still just as humble and just as down to earth as ever and STILL there for the fans! Not for himself like the new era "flashy" quarterbacks. The Steeler era made football fun even when they lost games that they should have won.

I learned a lot about football watching Mr. Bradshaw play. I would sit next to my daddy, eating popcorn, learning to love and understand the game. I love seeing him now talking and still having fun with the game. He was a true athlete, and still makes watching him fun. Thanks for the memories, sir!

in the 70s it was much harder to pass the ball because the ol had to block and holding was not allowed....qbs took more of a beating. Bradshaw threw a great deep ball and was really clutch
@Ben Hur his qb rating is low for many reasons. Knoll and bradshaw didnt get along at first and he had some horrible years because knoll didnt use his strengths and set him up to fail. 2nd isThe league avg for qb rating in the 70s was only 65. Bradshaw was 5 points higher which is equivilent to a guy playing in the 2010s having a 93 rating since the league avg is 88. So for his era he is more like a matt ryan or ben rothlisberger who have similar qb ratings and around 93 or 94. Bradshaw built his reputation in the playoffs with a 14-5 record. 4 sbs and 2 superbowl mvps in 1978 and 1979. Its not a coincidence that in 1978 they opened up the passing game a little by changing some rules. He playoff rating was great for his era at 83.9 which is only a little lower than bradys and a superbowl rating of 112 which is way higher than bradys. You must judge qbs from the era they played and not with modern statistics. You mention Stabler but his rating was a 75 which is only 5 points higher than bradshaw. Staubach retired with a 83.9 rating. That was the highest rating in the superbowl era at the time. He was basically the aaron rodgers of his time but better because he had 4 sb appearances and 2 wins in his short 8 year career.
Ken Stabler is in the Hall of Fame, Boomer Esiason played terrible in the Super Bowl when it mattered the most A lot of quarterback play when there’s no pressure or the game is just a regular season it matters the most in the playoffs when the pressure is on , like when Ed too tall Jones is coming to take your head off and is allowed to hit you after you’ve thrown the ball three seconds later, or a wide receiver running on the field can have his head taken off at any moment which was completely legal at the time, looking at the numbers of the 70s compared to the numbers of the 2000s is completely irrelevant being that it’s a different passing game and a softer game, although still violent it is not even close
@Walter White Terry Bradshaw is one of 3 QBs drafted first overall to end up in Canton, Ohio, the other 2 are John Elway and Troy Aikman, he is the last player to win back to back Super Bowl MVPs and he did that 40 years ago, he owns one of the highest career SB passer ratings, but most importantly, when the game was on the line in the biggest game late in the year, late in the game, he was flat out money, in Super Bowls 9, 10 and 13, he threw 8TDs for 320 yards, that's 40 yards per TD, his WRs(Swann and Stallworth) own the highest and 3rd highest yards per reception in SB history, he is the only QB in SB history to average more than 10 yards per completion and you don't know a fucking thing about pro football history, nada, nil, zilch

Yea He was really good and a big game QB at that. Funny thing is if he were playing today the way he struggled his first 5 years in the league the Steelers probably would have got rid of him. Good thing they didn't change Coaches and start rebuilding. They were able to keep so many of there players back then as well from year to year because you didn't have to worry about free agency.

Juan Alvarez Yeah Mel Blount would hit receivers so hard and all over the field that they changed the rules to defend the receivers at 5yards hits only and let’s not forget the head slapping is gone.Steeler defense made the NFL change rules to help the offense.

I just wanted to say.....I'm a life long, born and raised diehard Browns fan and I love Terry Bradshaw. I didn't love him when he was beating my Browns but I was tuning in to every other game he played. I respect greatness and those Steelers teams were the greatest and Bradshaw led the way. He also had the best arm i've ever seen, only Elway comes close in arm strength.

I loved Terry and he was my quarterback back in the 70's when I first started watching football. Dallas had beatin by beloved Broncos in the Super Bowl and the following year it was Dallas again in the Super Bowl this time against the Steelers. It was the first Super Bowl that I ever watch 79' and was probably the most exciting because the game was high scoring in the 30's and it went down to the last play and whoever scored last won, which the Steelers did.
I still consider that the best SB, then the NE-Seattle SB, because in both cases it was the two best teams to play in a SB in a decade, and both games were electric. That SB 13 was the greatest collection of HOF players and coaches in history, to this day, and the game was electric; never to be forgotten. It was like Frazier-Ali, the Boys were obnoxious and thank god they lost!

As a Patriots fan for over 40 years, I have always respected Terry Bradshaw. Always thought he was different from the finesse QB's who threw it all over the place. Seem him more as a blue collar worker, a tough player.
At the end of the day, Bradshaw is right. When he puts his rings on the table with the Montanas, the Aikmans, the Mannings, the Bradys, the Elways, the Favres, he is not outclassed by any of these guys, including Brady, and if all that the teams play for is that Super Bowl victory at the very end), all the passing records in the world don't make a difference if your TEAM never won the big game (cough, cough,

Bradshaw was not the greatest QB, but he was on one of the greatest teams. One of the greatest defenses, and they had a tough run game. And he made the big plays when he had to.

To compare the teams of today to those of yesterday there is a BIG DIFFERENCE. Those of Montana, Bradshaw etc were done without free agency, Brady has had to use different receivers, different O lines etc and that makes a huge difference.

People need to understand how different the league was back then. Bradshaw's first year he threw 6 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. Not taking anything away from him just saying the game has changed tremendously since that time.

As Belichick says, "stats are for losers". The Steelers played a game that made sense for their strengths and the era, Terry's big arm, and great downfield receivers a perfect complement to a great defense and the Harris running game. Nobody was using the short passing game for a high efficiency offense yet.

When I hear some jocksniffer aka a sports media actor talking about football and they have never had to execute a football skill in live conditions I question their ability to arrive at a factual opinion.
I for example have never competed in rhythmic gymnastics while Katie Nolan has and at a high level therefore any opinion I might have on the sport is solely a guess ony part..

Terry Bradshaw called Manziel the best QB in the 2014 NFL draft and didn't like Derek Carr ironically because he claimed Carr held the ball.
I have never seen any player I was more sure would be a bust than Manziel. He had the best protection I've ever seen at any level of football and threw lobs to receivers of NFL caliber including Mike Evans. His game had zero translation to the NFL.
Merril Hoge is the only analyst I am aware of that called Manziel a future bust and he was adamant about that. Kurt Warner is another Super Bowl winning QB who called Manziel the best QB in the draft.
Point is I make my own opinions as a casual NFL fan who never played football past high school.

porterhouse division II and on full scholarship. I knew Johnny football would not amount to much because is he played in uptempo spread passing offense which has the QB make half field reads and throw to a spot as a result Johnny football has stats which were grossly exaggerated.
Look at Jeff Geoff, he played in the same style system as Johnny and he is so far from being an nfl QB. it is not funny.
look at Carson wentz. He played in a multiple pro style offense which blended under center and shotgun in college and he came ready to play. Then again, his head coach was a pro QB as well.
You know when is the best time to worry about the draft? That would be the day after it is over. So until that day I do not expend an.ounce of energy on the NFL draft. Mel Kiper has like a 15% accuracy rate at pick picks. If it was not for the MSNBC of sports televising the draft to get a ratings bump in May you would see less interest.

I will always say Joe Cool but at the 8:40 mark when Bradshaw said lets break out the rings that aint no joke. The players back in the 1970's and 80's did everything to injure or knock out the quarterbacks or star players out of the game. players could get away with body slamming the quarterbacks on their heads and knocking them out of the game for good. the average quarterback lasted 13/14 years.The protection on quarterbacks today is given them longer careers.The Steelers back in the 1970's could had had 5-6 super bowl championships if it wasn't for injuries and the teams raiders and miami were almost as good as the steelers alway tough competion throughout playoffs

I remember when I was living with a gal. During our first football season together, she would ask what was going on. I don't claim to be an expert by any means but I tried to at least give her an idea on the basics. After a while, I at least made it so she wouldn't sit there bored from confusion. Her main reason for watching? She liked watching the guys bent over in the huddle.
We don't see "real football" today. Maybe just a mild form of it. The future does not look bright either. Seems to get watered down more and more as the years go by.

Terry Bradshaw is also very accurate about Mike Tomlin not being a good coach for the Steelers...stating that the Steelers lack discipline, they're not prepared all the time, and it starts with the HC. Also he feels Tomlin talks to much about other teams, showing disrespect, when Tomlin should just keep his mouth shut. Bradshaw has stated that Chuck Noll and Bill Cowher never did that, and that all of those teams were disciplined. Due to Tomlin running his mouth, many of the players run their mouth as, and so doesn't assistant coach, Joey Porter..if Porter was a coach on any other team, he would have been FIRED by now. Many Steeler fans want Tomlin FIRED...but the Rooney's want do it. The Steelers won the SB in '08, with Cowher's players, and due to great plays by the players. The difference in that SB, was James Harrison's PICKSIX for 100 yds.
Terry's advice should be taken to heart by Scott Zolak, former Pats quarterback that broadcasts games on radio. Way too much jargon and techno-speak....which he doesn't explain much, if at all. That said, I like his energy and enthusiasm...
Football is for sure too complicated for us fans. We really have no idea whats going on or the strategy behind everything. We like to tell ourselves we have a feel for the game, but it's fools gold

Comparing different eras is ridiculous! Also ridiculous is Bradshaw and Montana never lost a Super Bowl. My response is that they were only great enough to be in 4 of them, not 9 of them like Brady. Since 2001 when Brady started the Patriots had a 64% winning percentage against playoff teams, the Steelers are second with a 45% winning percentage. That's greatness no matter how hard you try to minimize it!

I've seen both teams at their best in my lifetime. Those Pittsburgh Steelers would beat these Patriots and the others as well, most every time. I doubt the Vikings would be winless in Super Bowls if they could be included in this hypothetical conversation about playing todays Patriots.
Completely agree 100% if you can find a team of people that stay in the prime of their live for 60 years they will absolutely beat a team of normal humans any day of the week.

Players are bigger, faster, stronger now than ever before. The offensive line of the Pats probably weighs 50lbs more per man that the old Steelers. jack Lambert played at barely 200 lbs. Linebackers now can weigh 250. It's a different game today.

Bradshaw, Montana, Elway, Aikman - all tough. The NFL's cash cow needed $. Fantasy ( WTF) fantasy has protected the QB in a way that these 4 never had. Brady would have had a early exit if the rules would have stayed the same. Keep the same rules and eliminate the cheating from the organization - 2 Superbowls at best.
