I collect Dragonite! Ever since that episode in the first season of the anime I’ve loved it!
When I got back into the hobby in February after 20 years away, I honed in on Gengar, who has always been my favorite Pokémon. Loving tracking them all down and eventually getting some nice graded ones.
I just started collecting again for the first time in over a decade. This is very helpful and insightful! I’ve recently started my Pikachu collection because that’s what makes me the most happy and I got the secret illustration rare Pikachu from my crown zenith Pikachu bundle. I think it was a sign that this was meant to be 😂
As someone who is a big eevee fan you can imagine how excited I was when I heard about the eevee heroes set coming out. That's definitely gonna be my niche!
I don’t have a niche. I like a little of everything and never had any issues. I wouldn’t enjoy collecting Pokemon as much if I was only focused in one area. I prefer the diversification.
I need to step up my Pikachu Promo card collection lol. I’m also collecting the Japanese folders from Neo 1-3, PokePark, movies, world collections etc.
Jake I know you’re reading this, and I just want to tell you that you highly inspire me and the rest of the pokémon community here:) Please keep up the great work and content you provide, I can say that you’re videos and what you give really makes me get up out of bed on a daily basis and look forward to what comes next in the hobby and as a collector myself:)
You really know how to tighten our bolts up in all the areas you cover and with all the wonderful knowledge you have with Pokémon :)

I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that we'll get more signed trainer cards from possibly the Galar gym leaders, and also eyeing the scream promo set to start a unique art card collection (which will be so hard 😭)

I do think that people need to explore with a variety of cards and products (raw vs. sealed) before they can fully discover what they love to collect. Great video again Jake

I love Japanese promos in general. I collect Pokemon Center Pikachu Promos, and i'm dying for "crossovers"! My favorite cards definitely have to be the Munch promos, especially since I'm Norwegian, and Munch is too🇸🇯😛 I have the Rowlet, Psyduck and Eevee. Bought them when they released in 2018, and i'm sad that i didn't buy Mimikyu and Pikachu too😕 But when i'm rich😉. I also can't wait for the Japanese Postal Service crossover with Pokemon! I will probably buy 3. Keep 2 sealed, and open 1😋
Another great video Jake, your videos helped me aa lot in terms of what to collect, before finding you on RUclips i used to buy anything and everything and after watching quite a few of your videos I decided to sell a lot of my collection and stream line my collection into just collecting sealed Japanese boxes and Japanese promos, which is all I really collect now, it helped me increase my collection very quickly and has given my collection the organisation it needed to be great rather than just good, hopefully i can share a photo of it some time, take care 😊👍

Jake, I took your advice and I have tried to become more knowledgeable about Dragonite cards! I actually just had a mail day on my channel opening like 8 different Dragonites! It’s the start of my journey to collect all Dragonites ever printed!
I'm collecting artists. Tomokazu Kamiya is my favourite. But i have about 20 binders of different artists and even more just sleeved and stacked. So much fun finding a new common card with one of your artworks that no one else values.
Really wish you'd do a video specifically on how to spot underrated pika promos and how to get them from Japan as its something I really want to start on

Hi I'm curious to know how can I get those high end pikachu's that go for $400+I've seen that it might have just been a short or small release but I'd really like to grow the collection without spending thousands of dollars

I don't think I have a top favorite. My favorite from 2020 is Kanazawa Pikachu, 2019 is Shibuya Pikachu, 2018 is Scream Pikachu

Honestly my area, or niche, are shiny pokemon. Reason being is that they look great, compliment each other and will look even better as a master set when i collect them all. So my specific areas to target now are hidden fates, shiny star V and shining fates. Of course im into other sets such as battle styles, vivid voltage, and chilling reign ( pre ordered ). Im also into japanese boxes because they are cheaper in price and very enjoyable. But this is me coming back in the hobby after 15 years. What do you think about this jake?

Say Jake, I am a huge eeveelution collector but have a binder full of random holos. In your opinion should I sell the random holos to get a bulk of money to get some more expensive eevee cards or just pick one card up once every month.
So I collect Pokémon, Dragonball Z & DC cards. I don’t do it for others to see or would they would enjoy seeing. I can see someone else doing such stuff. But for me, its about finding whatever you like and collect. I’m sure there are many others who diversify their collection. Nice vid btw.

i discovered pikachu promo aswell very randomly saw the new promo taipei pikachu and really love that card this is the niche im gonna go into now so many cool pikachu promos with designs that are very unique

Beautiful collection. I just buy what I like art wise, I've always been the same. I love meowth, so have more psa cards of those but overall its not all the same.
Just now watching your video, Jake. I’m out on vacation and just had some time to kill. I would say the easiest way to pick a niche is to collect your favorite Pokémon. I collect Scyther cards. My collection isn’t that big yet, as I only started collecting again in September of last year. When I started collecting again, I was opening a lot of cosmic eclipse, as I really loved the set. I remember when I got the secret rare Pikachu with red, I told my brother that I thought that card would go up in value in the future. I even bought another copy because I was so sure. Then a few months later, it was going for close to $100. Both of my copies are at PSA. Keep up the awesome content!
which pikachu's should we be looking out for right now? I love pikachu promos and have about 15-20 off for grading right now would love to know what new ones are out there to look for

Speaking of promos. I’ve been debating if you should open promos or not. If you aren’t going to grade them, is it better to keep them originally sealed or open them and store them in a new sleeve? Do factory seals damage the card over time? I’m mainly worried if the factory seal will damage the holo or card over time. Curious to know your thoughts!

Hey Jake, how do you find out what promos are coming out typically? Like the shibuya pika, how did you know it was coming out and how did you acquire it at first? Especially if they are Japan exclusive that's usually the hardest part for me.
you have to follow newssites like pokebeach, thats how i discovered the shibuya promo back a few years ago and japanese sellers listed that card on ebay as soon as it got released. Japanese sellers usually send worldwide, so thats no problem. I miss the old times when you could accquire most of the cards you wanted with almost no problems in regards to supply ... xD

Pikachu set bonus unlocked: Does 200% extra flex damage to other Pokemon collectors. But man, seriously impressive Pika collection man! I started collecting Pikachu promos because I love the aesthetic and art direction of these cards. Keep on doing what you do.
By my own conclusion this is the area I've decided to collect mainly, was looking everywhere on a way to get your hands on them early before they sky rocket.

Love Pikachu promos. Cheap and full of character. My favorites are the birthday Pikachu and Evolutions Surfing/Flying Pikachu. Still sooo cheap even though they do super well in a graded 9 and 10 condition.
I love that surfing Pikachu. I recently picked up a few copies for my own collection
I ordered 6 shibuya cards from an eBay seller and they never showed up, paid £8 a card and they are worth way more now, all I've been offered is a refund when I want my cards!

Personally, I collect Breloom and Shroomish cards. It is nice to have at least one part of my collection that doesn't make me break the bank.

My niche is full art trainer cards.... my good so many of them and promos = very expensive but I just finished my X and Y full art trainer collection. Next up is black and white and so on! Being able to afford some of the Japanese promo and exclusive ones will be challenging
While I’m def guilty of collecting cool cards I like I also really like to focus on Japanese/pikachu promos and also Eseries card. The Eseries has some amazing art work that I think surpasses the earlier sets.

Your right to focus on one type but I can't LOL maybe since I am new or that I like to many cards. However I am starting a Unified Minds set since I open many packs and pulled a nice Misty's Favor so that is one hard card down. Thanks for your helpful video's Take care

I probably one of the lesser in the crowds that likes to collect cards for their art - I really like more of the cards that tell stories but even the basic plain Jane cards have such pretty art sometimes. xD;
Though I do often like the cuter cards or the gothic/darker themed cards. If I did end up trying to collect a niche it'd likely be more of those two art styles though I'd likely want to collect cards based on actual artworks too since that's actually been a thing I didn't realize until after they'd done shot up in prices. Or grab sets that have whole stories like the pokekyun set which was actually my first import set just because I adored the story telling in the art and the way they did the foil accents. I need a few to finish the English version of the set and I need to see what I need to finish the Japanese version.
