I just have to comment on a trip I made to a specialty unusual(not rare) plant shop. I live in the desert where it is drier than dry, but I wanted to comment on how this plant shop owner waters her plants. Many of her plants are small or smallish, and in plain plastic pots, or plastic pots set in highly decorative ceramics. She takes them to the back of the shop where she has trays filled with water, and just sets them in the trays. She leaves them there for 15 to 20 minutes to let them bottom soak.; then returns them to the shelves. Now, the humidity rarely goes to 30%, but when I visit I notice plants that have been displayed for months in excellent shape. I have started using this method and several of my Hoyas have had explosive new growth. I also top water while they’re soaking, to get an even moisture content in the soil.
Oh interesting! I guess this way they get a REALLY good soak. I know sometimes I need to do something very similar with my Hoyas that drain super fast. This sort of method allows the soil to really get a good drenching and the plants a very nice drink :). Maybe the plants do so well with lower humidity because they are next to each other (I'm assuming pretty close proximity) and they produce more humidity around them because of that? They kind of use each other's moisture that is evaporating and producing some humidity? That's so awesome that your Hoyas have been exploding with growth!!!! I think Hoya need more water than "they" want us to believe. I used to be afraid to water mine, but not anymore. I think more is better than less when it comes to Hoyas.
Hi Gena!!! Hope you and your family are having a wonderful holiday!!! Looking forward to amazing shopping at your store! By far your plants are thriving when I receive them- even the begonias!!! You would never think they were bounced around in a box! It shows how well they are cared for. I get so much out of your videos. I learned leaf propagation from you which is so much fun for me. I don’t sell plants, but I enjoy giving them to friends that will appreciate them. I don’t have planty friends so it’s my way to share my excitement with the growth of my plants. I can’t wait to see the expansion of your shop. I love your crystals, and have looked at some Etsy shops but will wait until you start selling them. Absolutely love your channel! Happy New Year!💚
Hi, thank you so much, I really appreciate your kind words and support! Your comment has put a huge smile on my face so thank you for that!!!! I love knowing that my videos are actually helpful for people :). I'm excited to possibly get crystals in the shop. I just have to source them which may take some time. But should be fun!!!! Happy New Year to you too!!!! :D
This makes me so happy...thank you so much!!!! My goal has always been to make content that leaves people with a smile on their face. Your comment has put one on mine :D. Looking forward to the new year with you!!!! Thanks for being here!!! xoxoxoxo
💚💚 love your videos! And I love caudex plants! 💚💚 my favorite videos to watch are the chores/repots, and I love a little chaos/disorganization.... it just shows your human! 💚💚
Thank you Aubrey!!!! Caudex are just so interesting looking. I definitely would like to add a couple more this year. Chaos it shall be...but just a little bit :). Thanks for being here!!! xoxoxo
I love that you love houseplants and crystals!!!!! I could do videos on crystals every week LOL. There will definitely be more crystal talk and plenty of plant maintenance videos. Thanks for the suggestions :).
Awww...a fellow Begonia lover!!! Always so happy to know people are here for the Begonias :). I really really do enjoy my plants. Thank you so much!!!!
Happy New Year Gina. We loved this video. I think you're right about putting crystals in your shop I would be your number one buyer. We both like the idea of you adding cute pots from your thrifting trips. We would both be buyers. Do you have found so many wonderful things in your shopping adventures that you've left behind that we would be interested in. This year I am not going to have any restrictions on my plants, I am not very interested in adding more right now, but I would like one of your candy stripe begonias. I would like to see maybe instead of a favorite videos of the month, how about what is new this month. It might be new plants or new pots or new crystals period let's face it we all buy new things through the month for our plants or plant rooms. It might even be a new plant pot combination from when you've had to repot. How about chatty propagation videos we would both like to see that. Jen is recommending that you do more propagation videos I love that idea you could make them chatty get togethers and it feels like we're there in the room with you when you do that. I think that you are our favorite plant Channel because of your personality you talk to us like we are there in the room and you're so easy to get along with. We just really love you💚💚💚 don't forget to add in some of your macrame to your shop. I would love to give them as gifts
Hi, Lynn and Jen!!! Happy New Year!!!! I love all of your ideas. I will definitely use them. I'm looking forward to trying out some new videos this year and your suggestions are a big help :). You guys are so sweet and I feel so lucky to have met you here. Thank you sooooo much!!!! See you soon in the next video!!!
Gena, I so enjoy your channel. And you’re beautiful plants and of course your plant shop. I’m excited to see that you are adding Anthuriums I also enjoy Alocasia. And good luck with your shop 2025.
I'm so happy to read this...thank you!!!! I was just working on my Anthuriums today for next Sunday's video. They are so fun :). I also like Alocasia but I enjoy Anthurium more. Due to lack of space I can only really collect one so I chose the Anthurium. However, I do still have a few Alocasia that I enjoy :). Thank you so much again!!!! :)
Hi Gena! I always look forward to your videos! I enjoy seeing the grow tent, plant chores and it's always fun when the kitties make an appearance. Your outdoor space is a a huge favorite of mine, your garden and especially the fruit trees you planted. I know it's a long way off but I'm looking forward to that !! 💚
Hi, Nicole!!! I'm so glad (big smile here). There will be lots of grow tent, and plant chores, and lots of Nicky and Nora sightings LOL. You'll see Nicky in next Sunday's video (hint hint) :). I'll have to do more outdoor videos. I didn't share that space nearly enough this year. Looking forward to seeing how it grows in 2025!!!! Maybe we'll even get a peach (or apple) in the new growing season. Can't wait to plan the vegetable gardens this new year too. Lots of fun stuff!!! Thanks for being here!!! xoxoxo
Hi Gena! I like plant chore videos. You can learn a lot from watching them, like an informal tutorial. You can take your time and talk about your environment and how you do things. There's a woman in the UK that does" repotting and chatting "videos where she answers questions people have submitted. If I can't watch a video to the end, I open a new window and let the muted video run in the background til the end.😉
Hi, Sue! I always struggle with what to say during plant chore videos. And then I realize...I can just be quiet and work...it's still interesting LOL. But I have that feeling that I need to constantly be saying something LOL. And on behalf of all youtube creators...you are a sweetheart for letting the video continue to play (muted) until the end. So sweet!!!! Thank you!!!! xoxoxo
I like favorites, collections, talking about one or two plants, show me what is bringing you joy. I really dislike chore, repot videos. Of course, just my opinion. Love the thrifting too.
Hi, Vicky!!! We think alike. I personally am not a fan and don't typically watch chore or repot videos (unless I really like the creator). But the planty audience really seems to like them. And I'm constantly having some plant chore to do so it's easy to set up the camera and record. I actually just filmed one today for next Sunday but I tried to make it interesting and not just a boring repot LOL. Showing what is bringing me joy is so easy and the kind of videos I like to make. Thanks for your suggestions :).
I love your channel thank you 😊 I would like to see you show your Hoya peduncles at different stages. I am a new Hoya grower and looking eagerly for them but often get confused at what to watch for. And what to do after they bloom would be super helpful too to watch. Thanks again, keep smiling!
Thanks so much!!! That's a great idea...thank you!!! I remember in the beginning of my Hoya journey not knowing if it was a peduncle or a new growth point. I'll add that to my list!!! Thanks for the suggestion :).
Happy new year to you and your channel. Love Hoya. I’ll be sure to watch for that. I’m not an anthurium fan. Up to my ears with those videos. Hoya thrifting I dig. And rhipsalis!!!!
Thank you!!! Happy New Year to you!!! There are a TON of Anthurium videos out there. I do enjoy the genus, but I don't watch/seek out Anthurium videos. Funny thing, I did film a video today for next Sunday and the topic is Anthurium....HOWEVER, I think even those that don't enjoy them will find it hopefully somewhat interesting. Ahhhh...hoyas, thrifting, and rhipsalis....now that is JOY :).
Forgot to mention crystals! I had quite a few crystals in the raw, "uncut?" stage. Different shapes and sizes. I enjoy putting a crystal in my hoya pots!! So crystals would be great!! I really enjoy your updates on the plants and propagations in your grow tents!!
You are the sweetest!!! Thank you so much for being here for so long. I always look forward to your comments. I'll definitely keep doing the thrifting videos as I enjoy them as well. And also more succulent videos. I don't always showcase them because those videos never show up as popular in my analytics, which is sad because they are at the top of my favorite plants list. But I'll definitely incorporate more of those. I wish for you a blessed and Happy New Year as well. Lots of love to you xoxoxo
I loved the repot you did with vintage planters and the updates. Anything plant styling and rearranging is completely up my alley. It's so true what you said about climate, ex. I watch wildfern and she has the Florida Ghost trailing in ambiant conditions. Being across Canada, I do not have the same conditions, but our humidity is similar and I can usually use her tips in my climate. It's not the sexiest topic, but I am sure your plant care videos would help others in dry conditons.
Thank you!!! The vintage planters are fun...I enjoyed that video too :). We are very similar...I love plant styling too!!! Definitely those who share a similar climate can benefit from my care tips. I'll just always include my little disclaimer....and it's always nice to find someone that shares a similar climate to yours to get those tips from. Thank you so much for the suggestions :).
Just want to let you know how much I enjoy your channel. All the content you have produced is interesting to me. Love your personality, your beautiful home and plants, and, of course, Nicky and Nora. The plans you have for 2025 sounds perfect to me. Can't wait! 💚
Oh my gosh...thank you so much Deborah!!!! I am so glad you enjoy what I'm putting out there. You are so sweet...thank you for being here with me. xxoo
Love collection videos and favorite videos I just enjoy seeing your beautiful plants and how they are growing and how you care for them. Happy new year 🎉❤
Thanks so much!!!! I'm so glad you enjoy these videos. Those types are my favorites to do and based on feedback, so far, I think I'll stop skipping monthly favorite plants and try to do them every month and include how I care for those plants as well. Thanks for the suggestions :). Happy New Year to you too!!!
I really enjoyed the Christmas Eve baking you added to the last video! One of my goals is to eliminate so much sugar and carbs from my diet and I can’t wait to try that recipe after the new year.
That was a fun addition to that last video I think :). I may try doing more of those in the future with different things, not just baking. It does add interest in my opinion. Good luck with your goal!!! Once you get past the initial elimination of sugar/carbs, it gets sooo easy to maintain that diet change. I don't even crave sugar anymore :). I hope you love the recipe as much as we do!!!! Thanks!!! :)
💚💚💚 i love your channel! I enjoy all the content you do, would love you to incorporate some crystals in. I agree on not wanting to focus on plant shopping often, but I do find it interesting to see what is available in different states. Just keep doing what you do! ☮️💚🪴
Thank you soooo much!!!! I think occasionally I might do a plant shopping trip. They aren't my favorite but it is fun to see what is available in different areas. I keep meaning to go to Home Depot in search of the Anthurium Michele and when I do that I'll film it :). And definitely will do more with crystals. I've acquired a LOT since that plants and crystals video LOL. Thank you so much again!!! :)
Hi Gena, I loved your video and looking forward to what the new year brings you. I follow a plant tuber by the name of Fern, she has a great collection of pings. She divides them to make more and the blooms are beautiful. I think you would do wonderful things with them. I enjoy watching your plants tours. Gena I hope the New Year brings you great success with your shop. Much love ❤
Hi, Sylvia!!!! Pings are just so interesting. And my favorite about them is they are so cute LOL. I love mine. I've seen people put multiples in containers. I think they call that a "pingdom". I may do that one day but right now I'm enjoying them individually in their little containers. I do like the collection I have in my terrarium...I guess that could kind of be considered a pingdom. A few of those could use separating since they have multiplied throughout the year. Fascinating little plants for sure. I do love them so much. Thank you for everything this year Sylvia...for being a part of this. Much love to you as well xoxoxox.
Hi Gena! I’m excited for anthurium coming to your shop. I’d love to purchase one of your hybrids! I like seeing your beautiful plants - collection videos, favorites, growth updates, plant/pot styling. Happy New Year and thanks for all the great videos!
Hi, Cheryl!!! If all goes to plan I'm going to have MANY Anthurium available in 2025. Not sure exactly when, since it depends on the rate of their growth, but I'll have a lot :). Thank you for all the suggestions and thank you for being here!!!! Happy New Year to you too!!!! xoxoxo
Aw, thank you so much for your kind words. I'm so glad I could bring a bit of joy to your year! 💖 I hope 2025 treats you more kindly and gently. Hugs to you Karen xxoo
The Caudex look fascinating!! I always learn something special from this channel 🤔 i really enjoyed the lovely philodendrons . I am very passionate about Hoya but love to explore all types of plants. I have fallen in love with Orchid cactus. I am also beginning to learn more about succulents. I am waiting on my first Lithops 😳 I hope I can master this tiny funny plant care . I was wondering if you have any Lithops ?? All of your plants are so beautiful 😍 i am always blown away at their health and vigorous growth. Maybe it is the awesome mountain air 😉 (i love love the mountains)❤❤❤❤❤🌿🌵🌿🌱🪴
Hi Pamela! I'm so happy to read this!!! Succulents are my first love. They were what I had the most of at the early stages of my plant obsession LOL. I do have lithops. They are adorable little plants. I will say I did kill my very first one. There is a learning curve with them. "they" say not to water them very much so that's what I did, and it died. Now I water way more often than they suggest and they are thriving. What I've learned is if you see any wrinkling...water them. That's what I've been doing and it's working for me. I basically treat them the same as all the rest of my succulents. It very well could be the mountain air, elevation, or the water! We have pretty good water out here too :). Thank you so much for sharing your likes!!!!
I am definitely going to take your advice on the Lithops 😃 I really appreciate your kind reply. I am excited to hear the new things coming to your channel. I am devoted to your channel as is but I am sure you like to change things a bit . I will let you know how my new Lithop family gets along .😉👍
Have been rearranging my plants today and I really need to down size the collection so a few have gone onto the nature strip today and more will go. Seems to be lots of changes for everyone. Very much enjoy your channel. Happy New Year 💚
I feel like downsizing is just a part of the hobby and it's perfectly fine do so :). I'm happy to have found my sweet-spot with my colletion this year. I may even downsize a little more in 2025 although right now I'm feeling pretty content with my collection. Thank you so much and Happy New Year!!!!!
Wonderful video and plan for your shop. Would you consider showing us how to prune begonias to stay small? I want my three begonias to stay smaller, and I know there is a way to prune to keep them small? it might be easy....... but I am curious. Thanks. Happy New Year Gena!!!
Hi, Tamra!!! Thank you so much!!! I could totally share that since I'm constantly having to do just that LOL. Sometimes (especially with cane begonias) I think it's better to just start them over. They grow so fast and it doesn't take long to have a big mother plant again :). But I'll add that to my list of videos to make. Thanks for the suggestion!!!! I'm looking forward to it too. So happy to have met you here and in real life xoxoxo. Happy New Year!!!!
I was going to put my Florida ghost on a pole but I decided I kind of like the way it drapes as it overflows the pot. I do like the thrifting videos a lot but I like all of your content.
It does trail nicely! Such a pretty plant. I really hope it does well out of the grow tent. Right now it's absolutely perfect!!! I'm kind of tempted to have it grow up my pink trellis LOL. That might look really interesting. Oh and definitely I'll be doing thrifting videos this year!!! Thanks Kyra :).
Thanks Paul!!!! So the Florida Ghost came from Etsy. The shop name is LAtropicamart. I paid $40 in March of 2023. I did get a shop discount with that order so the price was probably around $34. And the Florida Beauty came in an import shipment which was free for me. That was from summer 2023 I think???? Or maybe it was this year. I can't remember. I know I got a Florida Beauty recently but I ended up selling that one but keeping this original one. Hope all is well with you Paul!!! Always happy to see you here :).
The only things I would consider adding to my wish list would be Rhipsalis and Hoya. I do love philodendrons . I find I have more vining philodendrons than self heading. Even so I am still reducing my vining collection. I have 14 pots of the vining philodendrons in my two rolling living room carts. I have several of the smaller vining philos like the Brazil and Lemon Lime. I like to see your thrift store shopping even if you can not talk through them. I enjoyed your which plant do you like best little video endings. Probably a lot of work for you? For sure care videos are also a no go for my doing them. I live in high desert cold country Idaho. BUT I do like to see your plant set up. Did I see you have a cover over one of your plant stands in your kitchen?? 💚💚💚
Hi, Chris! Rhipsalis and Hoya are always the exception to the rule (the rule of no more plants LOL). And I've been meaning to do more of the "what's your favorite" again. I just keep forgetting. Yep...that's a plastic covered shelving unit. It was sent to me by, I think Barrina, to do a demonstration video of it. It's pretty awesome. Works really well for my Begonias and African Violets :)
@@ThePinkTrellis Ah. This looks like it would be a lot easier than trying to cover the bottom of the parrot cage with plastic. I will look for one I can use on one of my taller plant stands. Thanks
I am intrigued by the caudex plants too...I have only one called fokea edulis which I'm thrilled with and so long as I don't kill it for 6 months, I may get a few more, if my pocket can afford it!!!
They are just so interesting! I definitely plan to get one or two this year. I'll have to google the one you have. Maybe that will be added to my list too :).
Hi, Gena!! Loved this video! A genus Ive become really interested in is the orchid cactus!! They seem to do well in our dry climate. I love the big strappy leaves! Havent had any flower yet but most are young. Also, as you know, I love your plant shop and ordering from you! Ive had better luck with the plants I het from you than any of the other sellers I order f rom!! When I go back and look at your available plants, I can never tell which is the most recent listing🥴. Am I missing something or can you somehow date each week's plant list!! 💚
Hi, Cherie!!! You are so sweet!!! This makes me so happy to read :). Others have mentioned the orchid cactus...I need to look into those. Especially if they do well in our climate. I think you can filter to most recent listings. Check out the drop-down menu/button/whatever it's called LOL on the website. I'm pretty sure that is an option. Otherwise, I could put a date in the listing in the future. Thanks again!!!!

I am one of those that want plant care videos. I’m a new plant parent and enjoy seeing successful growers talk about their plant care experiences. 💚
I know plant care videos are very important so I will definitely be including them. Thanks for sharing what you are wanting to see :).
Hi Gena!!! Hope you and your family are having a wonderful holiday!!! Looking forward to amazing shopping at your store! By far your plants are thriving when I receive them- even the begonias!!! You would never think they were bounced around in a box! It shows how well they are cared for.

Thank you so much!!! I'll take all the pink hearts!!! 💖

Hi there, Gena! I love it when u take us into ur grow tent! It's like escaping into a tamed jungle, lol!
Happy New Year to u from Canada!
💚❤️💚❤️💚
Hi, Wendy! I will have to do more in the grow tent(s) for sure. It is a fun place :). Happy New Year to you!!! Thank you :)

Thank you! I'll definitely have more (planty and other things) thrift store shopping videos coming this year :).

Funny thing, I did film a video today for next Sunday and the topic is Anthurium....HOWEVER, I think even those that don't enjoy them will find it hopefully somewhat interesting. Ahhhh...hoyas, thrifting, and rhipsalis....now that is JOY :).
Happy new year Gina 💚
Happy New Year!!! Thank you :)
I love watching plant chore videos, and repotting videos! Happy New Year!
Thanks! I'll be sure to add more to the channel this year! Happy New Year!!! :)
Forgot to mention crystals! I had quite a few crystals in the raw, "uncut?" stage. Different shapes and sizes. I enjoy putting a crystal in my hoya pots!! So crystals would be great!! I really enjoy your updates on the plants and propagations in your grow tents!!
Crystals!!!! I love when people mention them!!!! Thanks Cherie :).
Hallo lieve Gena ❤
Jij bent mij favoriete ❤
Gelukkige en Gezegende 2025 toegewenst ❤
Lieve groet uit Nederland ❤
💚 🤗
I like all your videos. I would like to see more on growing succulents. Yours are gorgeous and mine always die😥
Thank you Melody! I will do more succulent videos in 2025. I do love them so much and they deserve more exposure :). Thanks for the suggestion!!!!
Happy New Year to you too!!!! xoxoxo
💚
Happy new year 🎊
Happy New Year to you too!!! Thank you :)
Yes Gina-I enjoy your channel very much. Thanks for being you! 💚
Thank you so much for everything :).
Hi Gena. Your channel has been a bright spot in what has been a pretty lousy year for me. Thank you for making me smile. 💚🪴💚
Aw, thank you so much for your kind words. I'm so glad I could bring a bit of joy to your year! 💖 I hope 2025 treats you more kindly and gently. Hugs to you Karen xxoo
💚💚
Love all your videos Gena! How about guessing the Latin Name of a weekly Plant? Happy New years Gena and Derik
Thank you Duncan!!!! Do I have to pronounce said name??? LOL I struggle big time with plant names LOL. Happy New Year to you too!!! :)
@@ThePinkTrellisNo just put name on the screen...hahah
@@ThePinkTrellis I'm sure it will do find outside of the grow tent. Mine is not in a tent and it's perfectly happy.
Happy wish list!🎉The Florida Ghost and beauty are stunning. Where did you purchase then, and if you don’t mind, what did they cost?
Ive had better luck with the plants I het from you than any of the other sellers I order f
rom!!
