Anyone criticizing what they think they hear based on a fuzzy recording of a live performance (possibly mid-run) needs to give their heads a shake. Do a search for the singers that had any success singing the role. Not just the 24 year old who sang Tanzlied or Marietta’s Lied etc at Cardiff or Operalia... the role. The tessitura of the tenor is helden... Florestan, Tristan, Siegfried, Walther... and you criticize the dynamic of a floated Bflat three hours into the show live? It’s 140 instruments. At Lyric? Been there? It’s a big f&$king hall. Ask people who actually know something. Kaufmann has sung arguably the most diverse range of repertoire throughout his career than anyone in the business. The ability to sing the rest of the opera to still have enough gas in the tank for “Freund” at the end of the opera is on par with any Isolde having energy for Liebestod. Be nice. This is hard.
This is way too slow... so slow it kills the romance in it!!! It becomes cheesy... if it wasn't for Kaufmann it would have been impossible to listen to.
Who said "let the clean mind throw the first stone"? You know? and I know - okay - and then remember to send my informations to the FBI also...and then finally, wake up and face a new world!
@@Fioniajazzband the "first stone" context was adultery, sweetpea, and it was Jesus who said it. Not sure who you're cheating on there in your "new world," but Jesus wasn't saying it's okay to commit felonies.
Really? What an idiotic statement that is simply wrong. They are both sublime interpreters and singers that we are lucky to have access to in this time.
The idiocy is totally yours. Because I don't quarrel about the quality of each of both singers, but just about this very piece of Korngold. Anyway, sometimes I find Renee a bit over the top, too much of this or of that. In her interpretation. In recitals. With full orchestra. And Jonas sometimes exaggerates as well. Too much power. For example the rehearsal with Angela Georghiou in the duet of Madame Butterfly. His voice in itself is perfect. Nice tenor. But in this particular recording he is overpowering, blows away that tiny little Japanese "butterfly" (not Angela of course).
This is an illegal amateur recording. Suggest you listen to the 2020 Munich recording with Kaufmann and Petrenko conducting.. although no doubt you know better.
I don't know what you have been listening to but this is the tempo nearly always heard and a sublime performance of some of the most beautiful music in the world. It is not too slow at all.
@@dgmelvin In my view, the tempo works out rather melodramatic: too slow. I do like more other interpretations, some also by Renee (solo most of the time). There is also the beautiful and so intimate and pure performance by Anne Sofie von Otter with the small ensemble, live I mean from Paris. The ensemble took over most of the male part. Thrilling. I do remember a totally other masterpiece played, also far too slow: Bernstein's performance of the Adagietto in the 5th of Mahler. With the Wiener Philharmonie. An absolute standstill. Melodramatic. Hearing and seeing that nterpretation, my tears dropped very slowly as well, down on my cheeks. But, anyway, Lenny was a wonder boy, brilliant, all his life.
So utterly beautiful. Bring out the tissues . IMO the most beautiful aria for soprano in opera. Kudos to Korngold
My favorite opera singers. Pure bliss to hear them together.
Wonderful!!! Unforgettable ♥
Gorgeous singing from the both stars! Thank you flying entlein for sharing them with us.
Merveilleux : deux grandes voix !!!! Merci
Absolutely beautiful!!

Be nice. This is hard.
FWIW this was apparently a concert performance of the aria, not the complete opera.
Kitűnő páros gyönyörű zene !
Herrlich💖Renee und Jonas in dieser Arie.
Korngold at his greatest
glorious
Sublime. When was this recorded?

wunderschön !!!! edda lemmer
This piece is simpley gorgeous but twice a person is heard coughing so.consequenly should be recorded again
Ann Chesebro
This is some dullard sitting in the audience recording it without permission - there ain't gonna be a re-recording
Go with this recording, enter into its tempo - it will reward you
EXQUISITOS
uch better with Julia Kleiter
Richard Tauber and Lotte Lehmann sang much better in their 1920's recording
Timothy Sole Tauber and Lehman -matchless .
Beautifully sung but oh so slow - ruined by the dragged out tempo
Renée isgreat as usual but Siegfried Jerusalem sings this song far more sensitive
Name dropper....
Does Siegfried Jerusalem sing the Part of Marietta?
The technical quality of the recording is not good.
It’s clear this recording is illegal, done on someone’s phone.
It's some mouth-breather sitting in the Civic Opera House recording it illegally
Kaufmann was brilliant you absolute heathen 😮
...piano or forte, dynamic force. With Mr. Kaufmann piano sounds weak. The voice was never in balance. How should it change in his 50s.
Non mi piace

A. Steinkeller A typical chesy remark
They do not sound in good voice. It is shocking.
It's a felony to secretly record and rebroadcast these performances. I've forwarded your information to the FBI

Only the orchestra is heavenly. Its a pity that those two people sing and distroy the music.

Yes much too slow. terrible to listen to. And that with 2 nice singers. who did arrange this awful performance???
