    Squats...with great form...yes! A year ago, I was prescribed PT because at age 68, I could barely walk. When I did PT a year ago, for arthritic knees, the squat was introduced in the 2nd week. Over the next 5 weeks, we went from sit to stand, to full squats with weights. PT was once a week and I repeated the exercises 2 more times each week. In addition, side steps (to fatigue) with exercise bands, modified lunges, step-ups, dead lifts, pushing a sled, and pulling a sled were incorporated. They worked wonders and I was pretty much pain-free after the 6 weeks. A year later, I'm still doing them and doing well (stiffness is my greatest challenge these days...which beats pain that makes it hard to walk). By the way, instead of a sled these days, I push and pull my son's 2,855 lb. Jeep Wrangler in the alley. This stuff works, folks!

      If you have a neuro problem, there are exercises to help your balance, these are different to the strength exercises, you need to do both.

    Thank you for these exercises. My biggest problem is that my big toes are rigid. To do the last exercise with the squats would be almost impossible, I'm 74 and keen to stay mobile, so I hope to get some advice

      As we age our feet go bad so we need exercise for feet and toes.
      You may not be able to do any at all at first, but keep trying daily and brain and muscles catch up and become functional.
      Feet on floor, sitting, and clench toes underneath as much as possible. Then lift toes up and spread them apart. Back and forth.
      Another good one is to lift one big toe off floor at a time. Mine wouldn’t move at all at first, now it works.
      Drawing alphabet in air while sitting really works foot, ankle and lower leg.
      Never too late. Never too old. ❤

      There may be a few complicated factors to this. Still, I would recommend getting an evaluation with a physical therapist so that they can figure out what factors you have going on personally. Do a Google search in your area and find the one with the best reviews.

    Must we do warm up beforewe started ercising

    • @theactiveadult
      @theactiveadult  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes and no. You don't need to do a designated warmup, but I would recommend at least doing the first set of each exercise with less intensity. This can be done by not doing the full range of motion and/or only a few reps.
