Great video! Just a few minor corrections:
    - Smiths, the watch brand, went bankrupt in the ‘70s or ‘80s. A ex-military guy named Eddy has bought the rights to the brand name in the ‘90s. Since then Smiths has become notorious for making homage watches.
    - Tisell is a South Korean, not a Chinese brand. Mr. Oh (the owner of Tisell) has built up quite a reputation for making quality homages. The only downside of their Explorer and Submariner homages are the protruding male end links (which protrude more than other brands).
Keep the vids coming mate! Stay healthy, staf safe, and stay positive! :D

Thanks for sharing, I love the Explorer too, so I really enjoyed this. Just one small correction ... there seems to be some confusion between the Bliger and the Benyar Explorer homages. The Bliger is almost identical to the Phylida but with more choice of movements, a bit cheaper and of course different branding. The Benyar you were referring to was initially exposed by ''Honest Watch Reviews'' as not even being made of stainless steel, as claimed on their sales page, it actually has a plated alloy case. There's even a misspelling on the back of ''sainless'' steel' :) ''Watch With Me Watches'' dealt with the Benyar accordingly ... I won't dish any spoilers out, for those who haven't seen it :) All the best.

If this had been made in late '22 then hopefully it would include the Addiesdive AD2112 Explorer. Brilliant watch at a very good price. If you buy a later version then it should come with a tool-less bracelet for easy adjustment and a choice of black or blue dials with brilliant 'lume and sapphire anti-reflective crystal.
imho the only way it could be improved would be by having a seiko meca quartz movement which would hopefully give a thinner case height in addition to fantastic accuracy.

I have the Tisell, and definitively is one of my favorites. BTW, is Korean, not Chinese.
Regarding brushing a bracelet, you should never use sand paper. Use a pad of scotch brite. It'll take longer, but the results will well justify the extra time and effort.
    Great video.

@@IBoughtAWatch Still, try the scotch brite approach. The good thing is that being a pad, and not a paper, the bristles will reach out on the inner side of the links brushing not only the outer surface, but a little bit on the inside, giving it a much better look. I brushed a bracelet on one of my watches that came with the polished center link, and you can look at it and never though it came polished.

Hi Oscar! I think your take on explaining what an homage is, is just about right! Unfortunately the feel of a watch is what many homage watches struggle to share with the original. And a Benyar watch will definitely not share the purpose with a real Explorer. I do have the Tisell. The company is actually based in South Korea. Their homage is highly recommendable. It's got a Miyota 9 series movement and a fabulously well finished applied indices and numerals on a lovely high gloss black dial. Cheers mate!

    • @IBoughtAWatch
      @IBoughtAWatch  3 года назад +1

Hey Alex, yes I completely agree the feel is something that's hard to compare, although I would argue a Benyar and Explorer can share the same purpose as a "rugged do anything beater sports watch", wouldn't you agree? I have long had my eye on the Tisell and perhaps I will treat myself to one, one-day! As always stay awesome mate, have a good one 🤙🏻

@@IBoughtAWatch Thanks mate, same to you! I would imagine a Rolex, a Zeno or a Smiths could serve as a mountaineers' watch but the crystal of a Benyar might pop off then you try to climb Mount Everest with it! 😉

Smiths watches are really well made, I have the Everest Expedition it has a Miyota 9000 series, anti magnetic, screw down crown and 100 metres water resistance and is a homage of the Everest and Polar expeditions. If you want a quality watch I'd go for that. If price is the issue then buy the Phylida as the best of the rest.

I have the Tisell, the Alpha and the San Martin. All three are good enough to be a daily for me. The Alpha, ironically, comes in last place for sure. Good watch at a great price. I wear it on a distressed leather strap so the bracelet isn't part of my equation, but I do like the smaller size on occasion. The next two are quasi tied... the Tisell is certainly more Alpha-ish. Pretty close to a 1:1 whereas the San Martin is more of a strong homage and a bit more modern. They are both in my #1 watch box but I do find myself wearing the Tisell more often. Both have very decent bracelets but that Tisell is great with the Glidelock-esque clasp. San Martin bracelet feels great but I do wear it on a gray distressed leather band. Both are great choices, just with different strengths. I consider them both to be keepers.

The comparison with tribute bands is interesting. However, in my opinion, there is a significant difference with homage watches.
Tribute bands are often regional bands that simply celebrate the songs of their idols. Most of the time, they are also musicians who do this in their spare time, in addition to their actual job.
With "homage watches" this looks nevertheless somewhat differently. These are made by companies as mass-produced goods. And in many cases, this is done less for the love of the original and more for the love of profit.
