I was lucky enough to see them on the Diorama tour. I cannot describe how bloody amazing they sounded. It was a magical night of music and love that I’ll remember forever.
I saw an interview with Daniel kinda recently and he said silverchair will never be again. Him rising to fame at such a young age really messed him up mentally and physically, and the thought of performing with them again freaks him out and gives him anxiety which I didn’t understand years ago, but now as somebody who has dismissed anxiety my whole life, that now has anxiety, I totally understand where he’s coming from. Not fame and all that obviously, but I used to laugh at people who said they had anxiety, and I was like quit being such a p***y and get over it. But now I am one of those people I used to laugh at. Obviously I try to fight it and hide it as much as I can but it comes through sometimes and even with medicines and stuff you can’t stop it. It’s real y’all, keep your mental health in check for real.
I totally understand! I have social anxiety and just always thought I was an introvert. I use to laugh at people when they mention anxiety-when I was younger. However, I get it now and I will be 40 this year!

Daniel despised his fame and the songs that got them their fans. Luckily, he doesn’t have to worry about that anymore with the twinkledink glitterfunk vomit he excuses as “music” today (and really ever since YOUNG MODERN). He repelled most of them except for the most fickle of Silverchair fans who love Tiny Tim just as much as Alice In Chains.
@@FlawedCoil82I’m beginning to think he can’t hit the SC range anymore? Or as easily? I’ve read comments that his voice is too low now. I don’t mind a few of his new songs.
@@mmsanrio I would think if his voice was lower he would be better at Silverchair, honestly. All of his newer stuff is so falsetto heavy and he sounds like Tiny Tim on so much of the modern stuff.
Daniel was already losing it here. I don’t know if there are many things I hate more than when he started doing all those ridiculously goofy falsetto vocals and super-quirky inflections. I think I blame Paul Mac more than anyone for corrupting him beyond repair and making him become fascinated with ugly, off-kilter sounds like buzzing/beeping amps and non-rock guitar abuse from trippy dying amp sound effects (or literally making ear-grating noise by chewing on the strings as he does here during “The Door”….no honest human alive could equate that with actually being a form of “music”). Silverchair was absolutely incredible until he infected Daniel with his cancerous brand of twinkledink glitterfunk “”””””music””””””. YOUNG MODERN completely broke me, as it was the most unforgivable betrayal of a band’s sound I have ever heard a band vomit up. I began to get worried on DIORAMA but at least it was still recognizable as the same band. And sadly, so many fans have very quickly forgotten just how unique and perfect Silverchair truly used to be. It’s absolutely impossible to hear his modern mediocre crap and believe that it is in any conceivable way superior to the highly memorable, infectious hooks, riffs and melodies that he was writing when he still had an immense talent and passion for writing amazing music and didn’t think that rock music is a huge joke. A sad, sad, sad ending to such a promising band.
I can understand Daniel at the age he is in the video being bored of playing early Silverchair songs he wrote when he was 15 but that being said millions of people bought their early albums because they're fucking awesome, and I feel Daniel needs to remind himself of that inside of hide away from the fact he made loud rock music. For years I got the feeling Daniel disregarded and felt embarrassed by all his heavy stuff and just sees it as juvenile teen angst, but it all holds its place in time, and every emotion is important whether its happy clappy or whether its anger. Paul Mac changed Silverchair...some may like his influence but I hated it. I love Diorama, I think its a truly stunning album with beautiful arrangements and melodies but also has One Way Mule & The Lever which are heavy AF, and I completely understand Daniels mindset of wanting to write uplifting positive music from coming out of his mental health struggles - but that being said Young Modern is a pile of garbage that I've tried over and over again to like and Paul Macs influence is all over it like a rash. Diorama had Paul Mac on it but it was very much a Daniel Johns album but by Young Modern Paul Mac pretty much became the 4th member of Silverchair, and I also got the feeling in interviews whenever Paul Mac was brought up Ben & Chris looked like they weren't keen on him. As for Daniels most recent stuff...that Ariel Love song is unlistenable
@@Bennyboy138 Very well said! I completely agree with everything. You are correct, when he would play older songs, he played them in a way that was almost int “mocking” them; like he resented that people liked them yet was contractually obligated to play at least a few older songs. I completely lost all faith in him as a musician if he is unable to tell the monumental difference in quality between what he composed in 1994-2002 and then everything else. It really does seem like Paul Mac was the disease, but (like any disease) it took a little time to fully destroy the infected person. I see DIORAMA as the final dying gasps of a once truly gifted musician. Everything that came after was downright shameful. I can’t believe that so many Silverchair fans totally forgot what magic Daniel, Ben and Chris used to create together and instead seem to encourage and embrace this ridiculously over-the-top, mediocre, bizarre crap he does now. Daniel had the perfect voice for what he used to make. But now he has it in his head that he is the lovechild of David Bowie morphed with Bjork and…ugh, it is so terrible and such a horrific waste of a once highly talented musician. I hate it.
@FlawedCoil82 Hasn't he always done the guitar teeth thing during the door? From all the shows Ive seen he did it all the way from 2003 to 2007/08. I can agree with you on the majority of your comment. I would say Silverchair's downfall started as early as Neon Ballroom, more with Daniel than anything else. Daniel was always going to do and want more from the band and himself than the others, so it was as far back as 1999 when I believe something changed in Dan. Maybe after all his health problems, he needed a form of control, and that being the band. But ever since Dan took creative control of Silverchair back in 2001 (Read Love and Pain, Ben and Chris' book to find out about this) the band pretty much went downhill from here.
I would like to say I do really enjoy pretty much all of Silverchair's albums, but Young Modern felt more like 'The Dissosiatives' or a 'Daniel Johns solo project' with Ben and Chris on the side.

just stumbled across this...never knew they did this. very cool. Maybe when Daniel climbs out of his own ass he will start making good music again. Love Silverchair, not a fan of Daniel without the boys.
Hope ur right, but not so sure? He's been doing the weird crap for a while now. I bought the Dissociatives stuff shortly after It came out, and I couldn't even get through it! Love everything they've done, and Diorama was so totally different, but It was great... At least they say they're just on "hiatus" which doesn't mean much, but we can only hope!
I deliberately didn't buy the Dissociatives work hoping to steer him back to Silverchair.
I can feel the tide turning for him, it might be wishful thinking but I think now there is at least some chance of Silverchair doing it again
Daniel plays grown folks music now! 💙
Agree to disagree? he just keeps getting better and better
who/what did he dedicate Ana's song to? couldn't understand it
Daniel suffered from anorexia, now re read the lyrics you’ll understand. He made it through !! 🤗 (I hate being the person who gossips btw but someone would’ve said it eventually)
@@jules8159 I know that haha I just wanted to know who he dedicated the song to on this video, I couldn't understand the words
He dedicated it to midnight oil. Funny enough they would cover “don’t wanna be the one” for the next couple years
That's NOT Daniel Johns.
He seems like a completely different person, looks, stage persona, his vocals sound kinda different too
drugs, ego and paul mac destroyed the daniel we all admired in the 90s
Yes it is Daniel
drugs? you mean weed?
Why are you replying to me. I never said drugs ??
That Pearl jam..???😂😂😂
This sounds nothing like Pearl Jam?
This might of been his worst vocal performance of his career. N he had a shitty fuzz overload on his guitars. I know they were reuniting, but he’s seen better performances in his sleep
Vocals sound horrible on this one.
whats your definition of "horrible"? :D
One album, one band - everything just simple amazing!
2005: many albums, one band - play only one good song at the concert! In a terrible version
That guitar sound is rubbish 😮. Sounds like a Bluetooth speaker crapping itself.
I'm not sure why is sounds like that. His tone is normally amazing and he's using the exact same setup he normally used
All nipple piercings and soft poppy garbage! Why oh why did they not continue the awesome grunge, heavy metal stuff? So sad..
Check out recreator for new Aussie grunge
he has no taste for fashion
bitch he has every-
For real. That hat is barf. Even worse with no shirt and hobo pants.
Go watch a fashion show video then
26 min he's not a great guitarist or singer. just play what you can play.
Shut up please he is an amazing singer and an amazing guitarist you just chose to pick this part of the show where he was enjoying himself and having some fun have a listen to the whole diorama album and then tell me he’s a bad singer
oh man :.)
Daniel’s guitar tone is incredible here. I just wish someone would post his pedalboard effects. I’m curious how he gets that sound.
Im certain if you go exploring the Silverchair subreddit someone has posted his pedalboard setup and cabinets. Check out r/silverchair!
Just sing em how they go man
Wtf is that pedal being used? Its in audible its the worst!
