  • On the behalf of Learning to Drum, we extend our love, peace, and prayers to the Famularo family, The Sessions Panel, Can Do Musos, his friends, and to the many that has been impacted by his drive and unparalleled sense of wisDom. Dom Famularo's legacy will live on as he's accomplished so much in the drumming community.
On a personal note, I'm so thankful I had the privilege to talk to him a month ago. So many great points he makes in our last conversation to share with you all. One of his last wishes was to be able to attend his son's wedding which he was able to the weekend before he passed. While I'm getting over an upper respiratory infection in late August, I was able to have a talk with Dom Famularo, Global Ambassador of Drumming one more time.
Recorded on August 23, 2023, most of the material is omitted in the 45 minute conversation out of respect for Dom's privacy as well as my personal reasons. The first 15 minutes that are omitted was an update on his health. Unawares of the severity due to the cancer returning, it was a very emotional experience.
Another session was booked on September 28, 2023. The night before on September 27, I was contacted because Dom would need to reschedule the session. Unfortunately that next day, the Global Ambassador of Drumming took his final breath.
    Some quotes from the conversation:
    "Every breath is a gift."
"My only enemy is time. How we utilize our time is so important."
"If we don't learn from history, we miss an opportunity for greatness."

I was very close to Dom as a student and friend. There is nobody like Dom I loved him dearly. I spoke to Dom a couple days before he passed and he told me to carry on his work by teaching motivating inspiring and creating excitement by playing and teaching drums and music!! I enjoyed your video ( it’s bitter sweet for me) but thanks for posting. Rip Dom ❤😢

wow great video. About 20 years ago I emailed Dom for lessons at his home. I live about 20 min from him. I asked him how much were the lessons , he told me dont worry about the money. I really regret not taking him up on it. The only time I saw Dom was at a clinic he did in Brentwood NY in 1983. Was Dom, Joe Franco and Billy Cobham. When Billy came out the first thing he said to us was he just had a paradiddle contest with Dom while shaking his head and hands. lol.

I'm sorry that you missed out on those free lessons but thank you for the great story and you had the chance to meet him. That is the whole purpose of Learning to Drum. To provide a free ground level opportunity to better understand all of the other great drumming videos and its history that are out there. I encourage you to go see Dom's interviews with the Sessions Panel. They're always inspiring to strive for the game changing moment and continually get out of our "comfort zone."

New to drums at 53 and and as someone who has never met Dom I can say this. I can absolutely see his genuine love dedication and passion for sharing his knowledge for drumming in every video I have seen him in.
Hey may be gone but his legacy will live on perpetually through his students, and any one who learns from any of the videos he has shared his knowledge in.
    #DomsLegacy
Tip my hat in gratitude and appreciation to a legend 🙏
    Thank you Dom

@JABNole please watch more videos of Dom and you'll soak up the wealth of information you may not have as well as be inspired by one of the most passionate people in the drumming community. I also hope the tutorials in Learning To Drum help you along in your drumming journey. By the end of Season 1, you'll have an intermediate level of reading music as well as 14 of the 40 International PAS rudiments. #KeepSwingingThoseSticks!

I met Dom in Wellington 1994 New Zealand at a clinic. I was 21. Now I am 50. At the time, a friend of mine had died by suicide. I took myself along and really enjoyed the clinic. Never spoke of my issues at the time just relished meeting Dom. What a force of energy. Kindness and jaw dropping chops. I continue to be a drummer (not professionally) and enjoy life. I am a father to two teenagers age 14 & 15. I am blessed.

Wonderful story about Dom, thank you for sharing! Sorry to hear about the tragic news of your friend. I know it's about 30 years ago, but happy there are more resources out there to help those get through the hard times. I'm also glad you're still playing and drumming gives us fulfillment both physically and mentally whether if we do it professionally or not! That's why I always state to our audience, #KeepSwingingThoseSticks!

Dom helped me get a stick endorsement for my teaching, so am indebted for this vision he shared. He obviously had a lot of respect for you, and that's wonderful to see. Thank you and to Dom. What a Man's Man. :) x

Dr. Wooton, thank you for chiming in. It was an emotional experience especially when it got up to the part where we're talking about the episode after "Clarence's" interview in that the drumming community is one of the most inclusive and diverse groups and how Dom had such an impact on not only uniting so many drummers, but musicians in general. Stay well and looking forward to having you on again in Season 2.

So I must have lived under a rock and hadn’t heard of Dom before I met him at the Chicago drum show this year. Dumb luck put me in the position to very briefly speak to him. Within about 3 seconds, I was absolutely awe struck by the man. After going home and looking him up, I was blown away by the drummer/educator.
It seems like you are honoring his legacy, keep it up!

We learn something new every day and there's no shame in that. I'm just one of the many that's been impacted by Dom. Look up Joe Bergamini or Jim Toscano. These guys are really honoring his legacy. There's a newly created mentorship award that they've created which is a great opportunity for drummers: sabian.com/sabian-dom-famularo-sen-mentorship-award/

Dom is gone and Trump is still here, how is that fair?

    • @LearningtoDrum
      @LearningtoDrum  10 месяцев назад

Life can definitely be unfair at times as well as giving us "freebies" of when things could've or should've gone wrong. Aside from personal thoughts, there are people who've taken care of themselves by never smoking or drinking a drop of alcohol and still end up with a premature death. The young kids who end up not having a chance at having a family or career stricken with cancer or other terminal illnesses are other examples of how life can be unfair. Regardless of how long we live or how fair life is, I refer to Linda Ellis' poem, "The Dash Poem" in that there are two dates on a gravestone: when we're born and when we pass. The most important thing is the dash in between. Make the most of that dash.

@@LearningtoDrum What l was alluding to is the fact that Dom brought some many people together, his attitude was always super positive, and l always felt inspired after watching one of his videos, on the other hand, the other dude is doing the opposite. l get your point though.
